last week in politics

first of all, do people really read this post? I see a few replies every week, but I *know* there are more active poli forum posters than that. where are you guys? I don't mind if all you have to say is "the city's still here", but I do want feedback on how you and your citizens feel in regards to politician, cities, and mayoring. I'm a mayor of one city and citizens of a few others (I even run a business in one), and while I am familiar with the bugs and issues of the profession I want regular live feedback from mayors, other politicians, and citizens. some of the questions I'm interested (yes, every week) are:

  • has any recent changes (poli or otherwise) affected you/your city in a positive/negative way?
  • are there conflicts in your city, and where are they from?
  • how are the finances? do you gain/break even/lose money?
  • how do you feel about your city, past/present/future?
  • any special events happened/happening?
  • etc.

personally I've never had to pay for anything in the city, but that's because I have some generous citizens that cares... and I don't make money as an entertainer/politician

I'm glad that my city is on TC; while the frequency of server problems and bugs are difficult to deal with, it has a very different atmosphere than live servers. people (and not just citizens) come to the city because that's where everyone else is, and player cities are pretty much the only places on TC you can get medical and entertainment healing as well as merchants. folks even come to the city just to hanging out sometimes people aren't use to dealing with rules in a player city and behave as if they're on a live NPC city, but most folks are considerate and understands when I or other militia members explain the rules to them.

for those of you who've experienced the "disappearing 'city info' tab", I've reported it on the corr forum but haven't received any replies from a dev. other correspondents have experienced similar problems, and my personal guess to the issue would be that it's lag-related and was introduced in the last publish somehow. the odd thing is that while TC generally doesn't have much lag, I'm still experiencing this problem in my city hall. please remember to /bug it

so... should I continue this thread? do people actually read it? anything you want to say about your city this week?

Hi Pappi!

I certainly read it and even posted in the last one, but it doesn't seem to get many posts these days...

Hey,

This is only like the third or so time I've checked in here. I'm a new Mayor myself. I took over for our last Mayor who went MIA. There hasent been any recent changes that I have noticed affect our city in any way. As for our Finances... We lose money each week. Our city is supported by the long standing members donations mostly. Our biggest conflict I'd say is houses that are in the city from inactive members who havent played in a while. We have about 90 Citizens in our guild city. If theres anything in particular youd like to know, please ask. If you continue to post this thread I'm going to try and visit this area a bit more now that Ive become a mayor.

Meagain...

I think that the decrease in activity on this forum could be a result of the fact that is now difficult to get a city started because of the caps and that existing cities are either well-established (no need for much politician work) or deserted (no active politician anyway!)

I find it sad, because being a mayor is one of the most interesting and rewarding aspects of SWG, but it is hard for people to experience now!

I really like this thread, please keep it up... Being a new mayor and just recently invading this forum it has been very helpful going back and reading the "this week" posts.

Anyhow...

On deck this week for League City...

St. Patty's day party!/ cantina grand opening

We are giving the lottery another shot for it, race track will be up for the event, using the lot chest as a "pot of gold" with a streetlight marking the end of the rainbow. Goal is to just get people out to see/visit the city.

Treasure is still very stable.

Biggest cncern right now. Merchant update, not sure what impact this will have, I guess it's a wait and see sort of thing. Vote will be done on saturday, time to pick some more skills!

Cheers!

I've been mayor for almost 6 weeks now and I try to poke through these forums when I have a chance.

1. I don't think any of the recent changes has had an impact one way or the other (except the annoying City Info tab thing... but that doesn't really affect the city).

2. No conflicts have come to my attention.

3. The city consistenty loses money each week. The discouraging thing is when I crunch the numbers a bit, it doesn't seem like anything other than slashing expenses and raising taxes to ridiculous levels will make the city self-sustaining. I think it's great when citizens make donations, but I don't want to have to count on that. The other odd part, which may be a known bug for all I know, is that the city doesn't seem to collet nearly as much tax as it appears it should. For example, let's say I had 50 citizens and a 2000 credit income tax. That should come out to 100000 credits of income just from income tax, but my total income for the city is less than even that. Although fund-raising events can be fun, I don't want to have to keep "begging" people for donations every few months.

4. I am hopeful for my city. There are lots of good people there and I hope to bring in more. Revitatilizing a city doesn't happen overnight, and it's obviously going to take a while to get things rolling.

Nar Emiki, Corellia

Chilastra Galaxy

I really appreciate having this thread available to read and post. I have been trying to make a habit of posting whenever I can. It is very valuable to me to know what other mayors are up to, since I do not really have much contact with mayors on my own server. Many of the mayors who started around the same time I did, at Player City launch are no longer active or involved in politics.

Nar Emiki has been a very successful city overall. We did not have the expectation of ever reaching rank 4, but as it has turned out, we've maintained the rank for quite some time. We have even reached rank 5 a few times. Our city treasury is kept up entirely by donation. The city has some very successful crafters and generous citizens overall. Whenever the treasury has dipped, its only because it has slipped people's minds. All I have ever had to do was send a quick reminder and we were well rebounded.

The city hasn't seen much conflict. The city was never PA exclusive. For a long time it held 2 PA's, one mostly imperial, one mostly rebel. And everyone got along well. Eventually one PA had retention problems within themselves, and one PA absorbed the other one. It had a minimal impact on the city, although the factional issue was contentious for a few individuals. An attempt to bring in a 3rd PA was never very successful. The citizens who have been brought in have been indiced by the community of the city as a whole, the autonomy they are given, and the benfits for crafters (research center.)

The city has been a barometer of how many people in general are playing the game. When people started to explore other games, the city got quiet. The trickle down effect was the in-game community suffered; there just wasn't as many people around to interact with. Vendors became more empty, and foot-traffic fell off in response. JtL brought many players back, but they spent a lot of time in space, not in the city.

The future of the city is bright. I am encouraged that many quiet citizens are planning a comeback at combat revamp, and that is just around the corner. The city has a website that has become very important to the community, for events, friendship, tips, etc. The city does quite a bit of business, and depends on its merchants for treasury contributions, so I'm worried about the new Galaxy-wide vendor searches. We have run successful events in the past, 2 mount races through the swamp that were well received, and quite a few RP based player events. I am trying to figure the best way to utilize the player event perks. There's a great deal of possibility in them, I just want to make sure I can pull it off well. The GCW changes have gone over well, and so far, a city-wide cease fire is working. Citizens are being respectful of one another. That's all I can ask for!

Thanks for reading,

Yes, this thread is good. Keep it.

Constellation, Naboo (Chilastra) is still going strong. Sometimes no news is good news though, right? Means everything is running smoothly.

The new city perks are nice. We've had a successful lottery or two, and citizens have enjoyed plopping down someof the newdecorations and actors to add some (temporary) flavor to the city.

No conflicts really. Well, aside from a couple citizens deciding they want to run for Mayor. But they don't have much support as people are pretty happy with things the way they are.

We're about breaking even money-wise. I stopped tracking this as closely as I had in the past, now that everybody agrees there are some tax bugs.

I think Zola made a very good point with stating that the activity and popularity around the city seems to reflect the overall ebb and flow of people in and out of the game. We seem to be recovering pretty well from the loss of players to other games, and recently went over 100 citizens. There will be an event one of these days to mark this historic number.

the city's still here

Tyronet, Corellia, Wanderhome

Treasury continues to shrink with every maintenance cycle--not really a big deal for now, as several people donated their entire fortunes to the city when they left the game. So I'd say we're good for another 6 mos or so, even if the city doesn't make another cred in the meantime.

Trying to get our mall re-opened, interest has been slow and sporadic. Tyronet was once a crafters' and merchants' paradise, we're trying to get it back there again.

Installed a city lotto droid. Interest has been relatively small, especially since someone else on our server has a lotto with a 7+ mil jackpot.

Yes I read ... I was planning on posting next week after I achieved my initial goal

The heads up of what I expect and where I am.

I am one of those Politicians that took on the skill after they removed the skillpoints. I have built my city and it has grown in three weeks to rank 3. I hope to be rank 4 by next week (8 people away)

The City is "Veteran's Retreat" with no taxes, but a tiered move-in fee. The current fee is $1 mil but will go up to $2.5 mil after we hit rank 4.

I will post more after we hit my goal of getting a shuttle.

Server:- Chimaera

Location:- Haven Island, Corellia

Hello, new to all this, but here is our latest city news letter:-

*** Holonet Breaking news – Haven Island no longer a Haven***

In an unexpected move the coastal city of Haven Island has declared its unanimous support for Empire. Historically in these troubled times, what with the Rebellion and all Haven Island had tried to remain outside of the politics and trappings of the Galactic Civil War. However with a recent announcement from Mayor Khazrak this is no longer the case.

To bolster support to the Mayors decision the leaders of the Outer Rim Corsairs (ORC), a ragtag group of pirates have also declared their support and now stand beside their Mayor. Sporadic reports have been received from concerned residents about a detachment of Stormtroopers and AT-ST’s being placed on the island to maintain the peace and re-home Rebel sympathisers.

This move has worried the populace of Coronet. With its Starports acting as the galactic hub they see a large through trade of people and resources. It will not have gone unnoticed that there is also a large Rebel presence in the city and some say that having an Imperial city less than 1 kilometre away will bring guerrilla warfare onto the streets of Coronet itself.

Mayor Khazrak was unavailable for comment on the recent events and was last seen boarding a Lambada Class shuttle headed for a Star Destroyer in close orbit. An unnamed source from the Outer Rim Corsairs has been quoted thus "War is good business for people …in our line of trade, but in all wars there are winners. We have simply taken the decisions to support who we believe to be the winner will be in this skirmish. The sooner the Rebellion is suppressed the sooner we can get back to our … errm … trade routes"

When asked to clarify rumours about concessions and the odd bribe to look the other way when their transport ships leave orbit, our source simply responded "Yarg!"

Further to this I have it on good au» # thD * or…it* y " *D ……..

*** Transmission interrupted *** *** Receiving alternative feed *** *** Resyncing update ***

Greetings I am talking to you on behalf of Mayor Khazrak and extending an open invitation to Imperial citizens, combatants and Special Forces operatives in the area. As you may have heard on the Holonet news Channels Haven Island has aligned itself with the Imperial Forces in the region. We are now opening the doors of our island to loyal Imperials who wish to see the Rebel traitors cleansed from the streets of Coronet.

Situated 1 kilometre away from the Galactic hub that is Coronet we are perfectly placed to conduct hit and run raids on the cowardly Rebel Forces hiding in the streets. Due to the nature that we are also and island and therefore surrounded by water, we also have a significant strategic and defensive advantage from invading forces.

In the coming weeks and months we shall be recruiting troopers to help conduct these raids and training a select number of Special Forces troopers. Mayor Khazrak is currently trying to secure funds to build a number of bases to shore up our defences.

So if you are loyal individual or a small guild you are welcome on Haven Island. For more information please submit your application through our recruitment portal.

Long live the Emperor.
