Thread: Vote for the removal of /citywarn

I know my viewpoint will contradict the popular voice on this forum. But I was never one to conform to begin with.

There is no crime that can be committed in SWG that can’t be handled by /addignore. I am a mayor of a city and a visitor of many others. Do you know how many times my city has been truly "griefed"? Zero. However, when I passed through my neighbor’s town, I received a /citywarn and am killed before I can exit the other end (all because I was neutral to their eyes, rather than a Rebel). There are cases where cities have been placed in front of popular in-game sites, but access is cutoff for those of opposing faction (even covert and Neutrals), for as soon as they enter the city boundaries... POW!

It seems that /citywarn has become the tool of griefers… all in the name of grief protection. How ironic.

City caps are being raised to allow even more sprawl across the landscape. I do not have a problem with this. What I do have a problem with is that travelling across a planet could become a "global slalom course" where you must go around every city you bump into rather than through it for fear of the almighty /citywarn.

One of the main reasons people give for /citywarn is to protect against enemy faction members. I love Plinka’s statement: Player cities are not the tools of the GCW. If you want protection from the enemy faction, place a faction base in your city and scatter covert scatters throughout.

What gets me is the roleplayers who call for /citywarn for its policing ability. You want police? Call the stormtroopers. Go overt. If you are a Rebel then fight back. This is a Galactic Civil War my friends, and the only crimes that can be committed in this game are acting against the Emperor or acting for him, depending on which side of the factional fence you live on. The already existent grief protection tools (aka /addignore) take care of the rest.

so.. if you have a roudy person in your cantina licking your dancing.. calling name and such.. making animated motions.. /ignore doesn't make him disappear.. he will still do it.. (the motions) but we can't hear the words....

what then?

before we give him a warning.. if he continues.. we blast the bejeebus out of him.

Then city ban him...

And they are not exploiters of the system, they are "roleplaying"

Syn City is also fortunate enough not to have any griefers. I have heard of other cities that do. So by what you say, I'm to be penaltized by other player's actions?

It seems to me that the Devs rather nerf/remove features than correcting them. No wonder a large number of people I meant before/during/after SWG BETA no longer plays this game.

It was a tool for one griefer in one city on your planet in your galaxy. Don't push your bad experiences out on the rest of the community. Our city prides itself in being an open and neutral city where the GCW is not welcome. This is our only way to protect ourselves and our citizenry from griefing factionalists who want to fight within our city limits.

If they /citywarn you in that town, then dont go back. They had already lengthened the /citywarn time out to 2 minutes which is plenty of time to vacate their city. Worry about your own city and your own citizens. The rest of the SWG community seems to be doing just fine with these powers.

I'm part of a neutral city, and we have neutral events. During these events we specificly ask that people do not come overt to avoid confrontation in our city. If they do, then we /citywarn them.

What are we going to do now, say "Don't come overt, or else!!"

Yeah...

This could happen anywhere, in the Coronet cantina, etc. If it is true griefing, then the CSR's should take care of it. There is no grief control needed inside player cities that does not exist outside of player cities.

You bring up a very minor violation that I have personallyrarely seen. Now compare the grief potential and cost of /citywarn. There are hordes of people not being allowed access to major POI's due to /citywarn. In other cases, mere travelers through cities are being forced to go around the 500 meter diameter just because they are neutral.

I think I'll take the lesser of two evils, thank you.

Now she's worried about "potential" griefers. You know that by using that line of reasoning, you make yourself a griefer as well to the rest of the community. We've all seen how the devs react to whiners who dont get their way. If you have an issue with a particular city that's not allowing you access to a POI because they've built around it, then that's a CSR issue. Those should be taken care of on a case-by-case basis. Your effort to DRAMATICALLY change the scale of the Player City experience for the entire community is pointless, inconsiderate, and if bordering on griefing.

I encourage you and the dev team to take a step back and reexamine these perceived problems and try to use actual problem solving skills to resolve them. Taking a knee-jerk approach to this will do nothing less that ruin the game for more and more people. Doing away with /citywarn will not solve these problems.

That's the problem. This could happen in any cantina or in any Player City. At least in a player cantina you can ban him from the structure but what about the city hall or just outside roaming YOUR streets.

It may or may not happen, SWG is a fairly large game, but at least you could have an option to remove a troublemaker from your streets.

I don't see why the 2 minute warn for TEF was not enough of a change.

well.. for us.. that wasn't potential.. that actually happen.. (I think it happens more to BABE PA than us) but at least we can get rid of them..

I mean if people are fighting in our streets.. we usually inform them to take it outside the city...
