Thread: To poof or not to poof, this is the question!

Greetings!

There has been some heated debate on how/when /why houses do or do not go poof in a city. Recently, publishes have left us in a state of uncertanty. I think a study should be put together to assemble findings so that we may make an educated statement on this issue.

This issue is only about houses going poof. It is to address how they do...or to show that they do not. There is no right or wrong side. There is only facts. Disregard all facts or feelings before this point. We are looking from this point forward.

I think we can all agree that houses going poof is a good thing for the mayor. The reasons for this are well documented and need not be addressed. The concernby some is that it is not happening, and by others as to how it is happening.

Do we have any volunteers that can help in this? Can anyone else add further to the study to add suport to the findings? Or possible think of flaws in the study? It is possible that the system isnt even working the same across servers or may be different between old and new cities...so the more that do a recorded and document study the better.

I can add to the research as I have a 2nd account that expires at the end of the month. My process will envolve setting up 2 small houses, each with one item in them. One with a large some of creds to last it 6 months, the other will have none, and the bank and wallet of the toon will be empty. The toon will be declared to the city in the house withno maintso that when/if the building expires, a message email will be sent out that the citizen has left. I will monitor both houses and report back my findings.

I have some houses in my city that are on canceled accounts, but those players were all wealthy crafters. What does a condemned message look like and where would I see it? House sign?

yeah house sign...bad thing about the wealthy is that they have enough money to keep the house running for 6 months or more...so you may never see a condemnation sign.

That's the one catch about this whole thing. The process takes so long, and its hard to accelerate the issue for testing.

From the sound over..as was posted up a couple posts, you cant access a building that is condemned unless you are the owner. If we cant access it, it will be hard to tell the status of the building when/if it goes poof I would think. Hopefully enough of us can come up with new data that we can mix it all together and find some sort of answer.

I saw a thread in the GCW forums that CSRs have previously moved houses if they were in a fault line situation. I wonder if mayors can request houses be moved outside the city boundaries.

ooh, lookie all the stuff that happens when I'm gone

I never found out the specifics of the "condemned" houses implementation, so I'll email in or post on the corr forum and ask about this. I'll also try again on the purge timeline question.

I can help out on this.

I can add this too, I recently had some wind harvesters become condemed (they are on a 2nd account, and I had forgot about them). The account is active however (and paid up) so the harvesters just sat their with the 'condemed message' up until I came along with the ton that dropped them and paid the back fees.

I also verified the mail (and man do condemed structures generate a LOT of spam, especially when you have 6 of them)

It cost about 9.9k each to un-condem each harvester (BER8 Wind Generators). These were out in the wild so no back taxes collection applied to them.

I did verify that a non-owner admin cannot access the structure, only actuall account holders toon can uncondem (so if you are doing upkeep on someone elses house dont let the maintenance slip or you are locked out)

I have my eye on one house that has become condemed, as I know the owner no longer plays and I know approx. when the house became condemed (it went to that status approx, 3 weeks ago from today). I dont know if the account is paid up or not, as that seems to be a key factor on deciding what will poof now and what wont. If it poofs Ill post when it does.

But in my own case, those harvs had been in condemed state for at least 3 weeks and showed no signs of POOF'ing nor did I receive any email to my account saying the structure would implode (though the mails do hint that structure destruction could be a possibility)

Ill post the text of the automated mails later.

Ran across this in the CSR forum....

Hi there,

a while back our guildleader left due to RL commitments, so i was elected using the old .... as it is now allegience system. Now, when i read about the new guild items coming in i went an bought myself a PA hall as i had read i needed one. The current guildhall was at a stage where it was nearly out of cash and i thought good. It will disappear and i can place this new one and jobs a good one. I thought wrong, we are stuck with a hall that no-one but the owner can enter as it is now condemned and from talking to our CSR JasonC, the decay period is 6 months. The Hall was placed by someone called APEX using a lot swap system. I know lot swaps are illegal but what was our previous leader supposed to do ? At the time it was placed the halls used to take up 9 lots if my memory serves me right. The previous leader Sobar was also the Mayor so he had to use the lot swap to be able to have some lots spare to put down factories as he was a master architect.

The Csr doesnt have the power to remove the building, the owner cant be tracked down, i am stuck. The only good thing is the guild has another PA which is currently our mall. I think personally that the guildleader should have a lot free PA like the mayor does with his town hall.

Bold added to draw attention. While this is not a CSR posting this, it is supposedly what a CSR said, and even the name of the CSR is given. I thought I would add it to our list of info here in this post to keep in mind while doing our study.

the word from the bosslady (Tiggs): "Condemned houses will stay until the time that the Character/House Purge system kicks in and clears out houses of inactive characters and cancelled accounts." no word on when the purge will be (I made sure to ask)

Please please PLEASE give us as much warning on the purge as you can?

I know everyone is hot to have it happen, but I'm not actually sure how many residents I will lose. Population hit 105 last night, so I =think= we're safe to keep Metropolis and am resting easy about keeping the shuttle.

Well, that seems to resolve our study before it even got going!

Thanks for the info Pappi.

So I guess it would be safe to say that when people post asking when a house in their city will decay, the answer is 6 months or more. This seems to make it pretty clear houses dont poof. After all, the house has to be out of money to be condemned, so she is saying that a house with no maint will be condemned and will stay tillthe purge clears them.

PerhapsPappi could make a sticky on this topic with Tiggs quote or toss it in the FAQ? I know the issue has come up in a number of posts just this week alone.
