Thread: Remember way back when? I bet TH does.
Yes, I remember Holocron's threads on those very topics. They were the reason we looked forward to PRC's at all.

Then perhaps they should develop the game they said they would.

It's obvious that their attention has been focused on features until they get cities, mounts, and vehicles in the game. Then the attention goes to comprehensive bug fixes and game balancing issuses.... along with reworking of ingame systems.. like house item placement, combat, and several other things.
We're going to have to wait for vehicles before these kind of things are addressed. Just consider it another broken system in the game.
All your ideas are nice... but... I guess the developers have their priorities... They've stated them.
If they're not going to fix the bugs, then /citywarn must be removed to prevent griefing POIs. It's obvioiusly crucial to what cities are about. So it's obviously coming back.
Well you know how in certain places you get kicked out? Like trying to enter a battlefield after you died in it that is still running? Or trying to enter the main area of Emporers retreat before you finished the first npc?
It should be like that for player cities with a popup of militia statisitics, and the player has to read a big all caps WARNING YOU MAY BE SUBJECT TO PVP BY THE MILITIA IF YOU ENTER THIS CITY, and they have to hit an ok button first. Same with when they try to buy a shuttle ticket there. The popup window will say: number of total militia, number of kills total, average kills per day, numbers of neutrals - imps - rebs killed, anything else that may be useful for a non-pvp person to read first before entering. Also wouldnt that be a cool statistics thing to look at for the citizens? ![]()
There should also be a check box in options to Disable those popups.
Well, adding a disclaimer would be the first step in the right direction towards solving the problems.
Off topic a bit, but it reminds me of a disclaimer I once read. Warning: Do not drive vehicle while sunshade is in place in the front windshield.
Also.. why move them.. The system is broken. They'd have to write code to set up no build zones around POIs.. thousands of POIs on thousands of servers... and manually move any of the structures in the nobuild zones to some new area.. then inform the owners as to where their new location is...
Do all that without screwing up city layouts and whatnot?
No.. they took the path that makes the most sense. Just dissable it until you can write code that inhibits /citywarn from working in battlefields and in no-build zones near POIs.
Don't patch the code with some crap you plan to take out eventually. dissable the current feature until it can be fixed appropriately.
Moving folks is not an option.
Again.. your thoughts on /citywarn are good, but I'm confident that the developers will take care of it after they've gotten in the major features...

Also, SOE has clearly stated from the start that they do not desire cities to be private. They want cities to be open and accessible to everyone. City warn was meant to be a tool to deal with griefers, but a small group of exploiters has used the tool to privatize. We should not be mad at the Dev's, but we should hunt down the griefers and give them a good lashing with a wet noodlelol j/k, maybe...
Actually, for two years we were told Player Cities would be privately developed communities, with militias that could enforce rules and the abilty to grant people permission to build in them, or deny it. We were told that we could innitiate defenses that would allow us to attack those we did not want in our city, which would add dynamic content that would individualize areas of the galaxies.
Instead, we got a money sink and they deny their prior claims were ever their intent at all.

It may not, but it surely won't if we don't keep letting them know that's what their playerbase desires.
