Q: How much is ______ per week? How much maintenece does _____ require?
A: Don't know. This is all new and we have no master politicians so we can't set everything.

Q: How big is ______?
A: Not set one down yet. Don't know with certainty.

Q: Can I take over a city hall and destroy it to place another one?
A: It certainly looks like you can.

Q: Why is there a ______ on Tatooine where the devs are?
A: There is no spoon.

Q: Is property tax added to every structure?
A: Yes. It's property, it's taxed.

Q: Can your city radius intersect existing static POIs?
A: Yes

Q: Is there a faster way to get political experience?
A: Not at this time.

Q: Are there other requirements to advance besides number of citizens?
A: No

Q: What if someone beats us to planting a city in our area?
A: Run for election

Q: Is there any way to vote without being a declared resident homeowner?
A: No

Q: Are there roads and pavement?
A: No

Q: Are there street or informational signs?
A: No

Q: Can you build cities where there are cracks and ravines in the landscape.
A: Yes. I chose the position for New Hope based on a challenging landscape.

Q: Can anyone flatten the landscape?
A: No.

Q: What are the population and radius sizes of the different ranked cities?
A:The sizes, in order, are:

Outpost - 5 citizens - 150m
Village - 15 citizens - 200m
Township - 30 citizens - 300m
City - 50 citizens - 400m
Metropolis - 80 citizens - 450m

Q: What city rank is allowed to have a shuttle?
A: Rank IV, or 50 citizens

Q: Can a banned citizen vote?
A: Yes. City Hall is the only building that a /banned citizen will be allowed to enter so that they may access the voting terminal.

Q: Will you be able to trade in faction points for Politician Experience?
A: No

Q: How does a city's militia work?
A: The mayor assigns people to the militia. Those persons have special powers that allow them to perform some limited police work. Their primary tool is /warn. What /warn does is trigger a TEF(Temporary Enemy Flag) on the target and allows the militia to attack them. It lasts about 15 minutes I believe and during that time militia can attack the warned party as long as that party is within city boundaries. If the party leaves the city, they cannot be attacked. The /warned party WILL be able to fight back.

Q: How does the sales tax work?
A: The sales tax is a percentage of the sale that is added on to the prices on the vendor. So, if there is a 10% sales tax in the city, and you're selling something for 1000cr on your vendor, the purchaser will see 1100cr as the price of the merchandise. When they buy, 1000cr will go to you, 100cr (the 10%) will go into the city's coffers.

Q: Will faction bases be allowed in cities?
A: Here's what GreenMarine has to say on the subject: "We are probably going to make it so that you can fight back against militia...meaning its less of an issue and so we might allow faction bases near cities.

If so, you just have to expect that some players may use their unfactioned militia to help defend the faction base. That means attacking a faction base in a city would be more dangerous".

Q: Where does your house have to be in relation to the city boundary?
A: I don't know. I suspect that it may relate to the house terminal, but that's only a guess.

Q: Where can city fixtures be placed?
A: Many can be placed in what would normally be blocked areas. So you can place lamps next to doors, etc.

Q: Are merchant tents just a new type of housing?
A: They menu on a tent is identical to the menu on a house, so I would assume so. They take one lot and are a 3x3 configuration. More than that I don't know at this time.

Q: What happens to a building such as a cantina or hospital if the person who places it surrenders their skill?
A: At this time, I don't know. Sorry.

Q: How does Taxation work?
A: For income tax, it's a weekly amount deducted from the player's bank account. For property tax, it's an hourly percentage added to maintenance fees. For sales tax, it's a percentage added to the sale price on a vendor. For shuttles, it's an amount added to the ticket price.

Q: Can a mayor vote for themselves?
A: I've voted for myself, but only when there's been an opponent. I'm not sure if the vote counted or not.

Q: Can a mayor place a faction recruiter?
A: No

Q: Does a mayor need home in the town they are mayor of?
A: No, the city hall is considered their declared residence.

Q: How do I become a politician?
A: Once you have 500 apprentice experience accumulated simply visit a Politician Trainer.

Q: How much does it cost to become a Novice Politician?
A: 100cr

Q: How many skill points does Novice Politician require?
A: 15

Q: How does a politican gain experience?
A: By getting votes during an election.

Q: How much experience per vote does a politician receive?
A: 100 exp per vote.

Q: Do you get the exp as the vote is made?
A: No, only after the votes are tallied at the end of city update.

Q: When is the city update?
A: Once per week

Q: Is there any other way to get experience?
A: Not at this time.

Q: If we already have 50 houses in the area when we place our city hall, does that mean that we'll start out as a Rank IV city?
A: No. All cities start at Rank I and are allowed to grown once per week, one rank. It will take four weeks for your city to reach Rank IV.

Q: How far must my city hall be from another city's?
A: City Halls can be no closer than 1000 meters, or 1km.

Q: Do city names have to be unique?
A: City names must be unique per the planet they are on. You cannot have more than one New Austin on Corellia, but you can have a New Austin on Corellia, a New Austin on Lok, and a New Austin on Naboo.

Q: What planets can cities be built upon?
A: Corellia, Dantooine, Lok, Naboo, Rori, Talus & Tatooine.

Q: Do I have to use generic houses to build on Lok, Rori, Dantooine, or Talus?
A: No. Tatooine houses will now work on Lok and Dantooine. Naboo houses on Rori and Dantooine, and Corellian houses on Talus. The new city structures have the same planetary placement abilities.

Q: Will my city show up on the map?
A: Only if you have the politician skill that allows you to regsiter it.

Q: Is property tax deducted from your maintenance pool or from your bank?
A: Property tax is added to your hourly maintenence costs. So a 60cr per hour maintenance structure with a 10% Tax would be 66cr per hour in maintenance.

Q: Are the sizes for city halls and other buildings the same for all planetary styles?
A: There's some debate about city halls as I measure the corellian to be 7X10 while others have measured the Tatooine to be 7x9. Other buildings seem to share the same footprint.

Q: Do civic structures take up the politician's lots?
A: No. Civic structures are associated with the city, not the mayor.

Q: Can a merchant declare a tent their residence?
A: It does appear to be so though I've yet to learn of anyone doing it.

Q: Can we place faction terminals?
A: A politician with Faction IV can place faction terminals.

Here's another dose of answers from the questions threads. Anything not answered are questions that I do not have immediate answers for.

-----------------------

Q: Will default votes for the incumbent mayor generate experience?
A: Yes

Q: Can the mayor put vendors in City Hall?
A: Yes. Until tonight I had a vendor next to the voting terminal with voting information.

Q: Are there bazaar terminals in Player Cities?
A: Not at this time

Q: How many items can be place in city hall?
A: I have no idea and I'll probabaly leave that as an exercise for the live player to determine.

Q: Is there a city chat channel?
A: No. You can, of course create one.

Q: Are there detailed income breakdowns?
A: No, there are only coarse totals, no fine detail.

Q: Will there be a way to declare residency for more than one person in a building?
A: No

Q: Where does city revenue go?
A: Into the treasury.

Q: Can the same person be mayor over many many terms?
A: yes

Great Faq I really hope they raise the radius a bit more 80 people for a radius of 450 m seems pretty weak..

Using the common formula A=Pi*r^2.....

Tier 1 = 5 citizens =150 m radius = area of 70,684 m^2 = 14,137 m^2 per citizen

Tier 2 = 15 citizens = 200 m radius = area of 125,663 m^2 = 8,3777 m^2 per citizen

Tier 3 = 30 citizens = 300 m radius= area of 282,743 m^2 = 9,424 m^2 per citizen

Tier 4 = 50 citizens = 400 m radius = area of 502,654 m^2 = 10,053 m^2 per citizen

Tier 5 = 80 citizens = 450 m radius = area of 636,172 m^2 = 7,952 m^2 per citizen

From the above it seems Tier 1 by far gets the most room per citizen, which isn't necisarily bad, but tier 5 citizens (the biggest and best) get the least room by far, which in my book isnt right.... it should be atleast even with the other Tiers, if not more room since they are the bigger and better version.... I think tier 3 should jump up to 400 m radius, tier 4 500 m radius, and then tier 5 be 600 m radius.... would seem better to me... hopefully this will change.

That is a very good point. It is clear the devs haven't fully thought through how the cities scale - both in terms of area and in terms of cost. A city hall is 100k per week no matter the size of the city? That seems pretty irrational to me.... Clearly the devs need to do a great deal more thinking about many player city issues...

I think it makes some sense. If you live in a bigger city you are going to have to share less space with more people. Like RL cities where people live in apartments. People who want more space will just have to create smaller cities on the outskirts of bigger ones, ahhh the suburbs in SWG. Would be interesting if there were apartment buildings that players could build, with city approval, and rent at no cost lot cost to tenants.

Ido agree though that city halls should be priced and sized based on the city. Will my little outpost have a huge city hall in the middle of it?

If so i have the basement !!!!

Anways.......for 80 people 450m is plenty...you dont want a mix of houses with no roads or anything !!!!

you want them organized close with streets and sqaures !!!

Your area per citizen formula forgets to remove the area of the civic structures. The town hall aloneis huge.
