May I ask you Plinka (or TH, or whatever Devs sees this), what is the point of the 24 Hour timer or the making of players walk back into their homes in order for them to become Citizens?

I just setup my city and have over 10 people, but because some members only get on once or twicea week (and we werent expecting the patch till Thursday in my city), my city may be gone by the time I get gome tommorow.

Are there any plans to increase this timer to 48 hours (so that for those of us who get home, place the city and wont be able to play again till24 hours later)or maybe make it so that the game detects who already has declared in the city?

Yeah, I know nothing can be done to save my city, but this may help some mayors in the future.

Why did you place the city hall when you knew the requirements and knew you couldn't meet them?

What's this got to do with Plinka? You should have organised things better, dude!

Well, I feel for you, even if no-one else does. Blaming you for whether or not another player logs into the game seems a little unfair. But hey, we're the new guys here.

The 24 hour limit, combined with the citizens needing to log in to be counted, is not remotely casual gamer friendly. We too have more than enough folks, if they'ed just log in. But with holidays and such,it is awkward. Luckily, unlike you, I'm able to stay in game and make sure we (hopefuly) get the numbers. In your case turning off zoning might have been your best hope.

We all had the 24 hour timer to suffer through. As you all might have seen, the most annoying part is when a guy moves his house into the newly created outpost, and cannot declare residence again. This timer was added way back in beta, cause SOE knew cities were comming out, and it is an anti-exploit system. LEt's say we have 2 cities, city A and city B. City A has a vote on Monday, and City B has a vote on Wednesday. Now let's say Citizen K lives in City A, votes for Mayor A, but Mayor B of City B is going to lose by 1 vote. So Mayor B calls Citizen K for help. So After the election in City A, which citizen K voted for Mayor A, he then decides to go help Mayor B so he doesn't lose the election. So citizen K plops a house down in City B to vote for mayor. SOE added the delcare residency timer to prevent people from doing eactly that. Imagine people hopping town to town just to empower a BAD mayor, or to even vote a mayor out just to drain the treasury and grief other players.

As for the City having a 24 hour when first placed, it is also an anti-grief measure. This is to prevent Joe Schmoe from taking a city hall and placing it next to the houses of people he wants to grief. He has 24 hours to find "real citizens," not people he is griefing, or he loses the hall. This is purely designed to prevent city hall placement griefing.

Why did you place the city hall when you knew the requirements and knew you couldn't meet them?

Because no-matter what day I placed, I had equal chance on all days of not having everyone be on.

Even if I had waited two days to inform my citizens and get confrimation that they'd be on, the city cap would have been hit.

What's this got to do with Plinka? You should have organised things better, dude!

She is our Correspondent, and if enough people beleive that theylost theircities due to the 24hr requirement, my hope is that she will bring it to the Devs attention. We were organized, 75% of my guild members have declared homes there, we just didnt know the patch was going to be Tuesday until Tuesday morning (notice I said we, none of us were able to get onto here and see that TH had actually posted it well in advance).

Sorry but this is clearly your fault.

Bah-humbug!

Yeah, I got zoning rights shut-off and my guys were out asking for people to move in last night (I hate doing it that way, but we cant afford another City Hall if this one is destroyed).

I hope you get enough people.

I just dont see the logic of this current timer. Yes, I think there should be a timer so that someone cant just plop down a City Hall with no-one else around, but it should be 48 hours minimum. Getting 10 people is no problem, but getting them in-game when they all have real-lives can be hard.

We will see how this goes this afternoon when I get home...

And no, I dont blame Plinka or the Devs for this, I knew that when I placed it I had 24hrs for all of my residents to get in-game and walk in their houses, I just dont like the fact that it's a 24hr timer, like I said above, this doesnt seem like enough.

I understand the logic behind it (and I do like the idea), but If this is anti-greif only, why not make it so that you have 48+ hours to get 10 citizens?

Could an option be added to a house's terminal called 'Auto Join City' where once the owner clicks on it and activates it, he/she acknowledges that once a city is created in that area, the house will automaticly make them a citizen if they are declared, thus eliminating the need to login to the game and walk into the house. This would also make it easier on the new Mayors to get 10 people in 24 hours, because any legit cities would have all their residents do this. The 24hr timer would still be in effect with this idea, but the need to login and walk into your house would be gone.

Thoughts?

Enough already!

Hundreds of people across the universe have done with this no problem.

If you cannot organise 10 people to go into their houses, then you are not going to make a very Politician.

If your people are only casual players, then you are not going to be able to build a very good city, so just join another one.

The Devs havea lot more things to do than fixing the game just to make it easier for you - the rules have been known for a long time - they are the same for everyone.

The other logic behind this 24-hour timer is to prevent people from "placeholding".

There is a cap on the number of cities per planet as well as a 1KM no-build radius arounda City Hall. Remember, these structures require no lots.

Putting such a requirement in "validates" a city's true existance and removes the potential for someone to have quickly dropped 10 cities on a single planet, monopolized the market and sold off City Halls to the highest bidder.

While you're upset because you can't get 10 players together, imagine if a single player was capable of removing the possibility of you placing your city on the planet.

best bet is to try this (it won't hurt really) have them repick up their houses (and make sure you don't own any other out there) and replace it and redeclare (we did this to a few) and they are readd to the citizen list

Hundreds of people across the universe have done with this no problem.

Yes, I know, but a majority of these cities have had well over 50+ houses there when they places their City Hall, our goal is to acutally grow, not just group people and call it a city.

If your people are only casual players, then you are not going to be able to build a very good city, so just join another one.

Why shouldmy people bedenied a cityjust because we dont sit at home all day playing the game? We have sunk as much time and money (both real and virtual) into our new city as everyone else.

The Devs havea lot more things to do than fixing the game just to make it easier for you - the rules have been known for a long time - they are the same for everyone.

It's not just for me, look at my post, it says there's nothing that can be done for me now. I knew the rules, but IMO, the 24 hour time limit is just too short. I dont think we'll be seeing any Mega-uber-opolis cities poping up anymore, I think you'll only see small cities starting and then growing gradually like in RL, and if a city starts off small, well, I dont need to explain this to you.

Putting such a requirement in "validates" a city's true existance and removes the potential for someone to have quickly dropped 10 cities on a single planet, monopolized the market and sold off City Halls to the highest bidder.

Cant a player only be mayor of one city at a time? If so, then he can only control x1 City Hall at a time.

While you're upset because you can't get 10 players together, imagine if a single player was capable of removing the possibility of you placing your city on the planet.

This probaly has happened, I'm not saying remove the 24hr restriction, just increase it.

everyone i asked said that all my citizens had to do was declare in my city, well i placed my hall and it told me that they had to sign on and go to their houses or sometin like that and this caught us all offguard. i sign ur petition and think that everyone should know that ur citizens have to also be online or sign on and enter their houses, and to u flamers, well im sry if we didn't know bout the rule but u need to chill out not everyone knows as much as u.

I hope everything works out for you guys.

The problem with this idea is that the player have to be online to do this, and that's part of my issue with the 24hr timer.
