Thread: How long until *harvesters* decay?

I know houses will sit there forever and ever 'cause they have people's stuff in them. What about harvs? Someone dropped 30-40 harvs *right* against our city's borders (and right next to my own little field ) and within a month they were rotting, and have been there since. Meanwhile, that's good, flat land that no one else can use for harvs, forts, or anything else.

They'll be there longer than you will probably. There'sa few outside my city too (and I feel bad cause one has that anti-power deal on it). Justa burning away. I wish I could pay the Empire the back taxes on them and take control of them.

Double Jeopardy! Time for the bonus question.

How many devs does it take to delete harvestors? =P

Whoever it is, they dropped 30+ heavies, used them for one shift, and just never picked them back up. It has a company name on them, but I can't find who the company is run by. I've offered to cover the decay costs in exchange for exclusive use of them for a time, at which time I'd leave enough maintenance in them for them to pull them up. I doubt I'll hear back.

I have to admit, it also bugs me they are exactly where I was going to drop another ten statics. But mostly, I just hate having ANYTHING around our city decaying. It drives me bugship.

The original structure decay system was best.

No Maintenance = POOF!

A regular flow of old/inactive structures being deleted, creating room for new/active structures.

They will never run a purge because then we'd know how many people have left the game.

That's awesome news. My question, though, which I asked in the thread and will ask you, too... Will this replace the current "draw from the bank account" method, or willit be in lieu of structures going condemned? Or will it be something that happens to structures owned by someone who's quit the game?

I'm hoping the first one. Otherwise my town has a merchant tent which, by my math, will be in place roughly ninteen years.

My impression is that it is a combination of the current system of bank account/condemn and getting rid of cancelled account structures. I'll need to get more clarification on it, though, since everything I'm saying here is strictly from the answer to the question posed in the panel.

Technically they are two separate issues. A player's account can still be active, but their character on a particular server may not be (leaving dead structures behind). At the same time a cancelled account can have tons of "healthy" structures and will for many months to come under the new system.

The character purge is for the cancelled accounts. If the account has been gone for 6 months, structures tied to that account will be pulled up by the system and put in the character's bank account. The purge in and of itself isn't designed for condemned structures, at least that's how I interpreted it.

They *are* going to be looking at a resolution for the condemned issue. As players, too, they seemed very concerned with the number of condemned harvesters and other structures littering the landscape. It may be that they wait until the purge goes through to evaluate it, or it may be that they put a separate system in place for dealing with it. I'll need to get more updates on it before giving you anything concrete.

At the same time a cancelled account can have tons of "healthy" structures and will for many months to come under the new system. This will definatly have to be addressed. If not, we are not really getting anywhere. I'm not all that sure it's a huge issue (leave one server for another, leaving a mess in your wake) but is it one none the less that needs to be addressed.

The purge in and of itself isn't designed for condemned structures, at least that's how I interpreted it. Well, this could be an idea but we'd still be left with the potential for an 11 month hang time if the person decieds to cancel a month into a year long renual. Perhaps a 6 month timer, based on logings would be a better idea here. That would eliminate any stucture from staying around more then 6 months at the most.

OK, ok, I know this is all still on the drawing board technically but I feel the sooner we get the Dev's to see this from out end (because I honestly don't think the do), the better we will all be. I have a feeling that if/when this comes about, we had better get it working the way we need it do otherwise we'll be fighting a losing battle to get them to go back and retool/rethink this to handle some issues that can and will arise from it.

I just hope you don't get tired of me posting on the character purge. I never liked the fact a system wasn't inplace for this from day one and I'm not to thrilled on the idea of them attempting to get something set up now that will be used and abused by alot of people.
