Thread: Militia/City Ban woefully inadequate

Well, we've had the militia up for over a week now and just set up a cloning facility yesterday. It has now become blatantly apparent that with the current implementation we have NO CONTROL over who can and cannot use our facilities. Many enhancements are necessary to make this useful, but here's a short list of the main things:

1) We MUST be able to ban people AND guilds from our facilities regardless of whether or not they are actually present in the city at the time! Currently /cityban only allows me to ban an active target which is almost WORTHLESS. If we have known enemies then there is no reason I should not be able from the city management terminal be able to add these individuals or guilds to the ban list. I mean come on, I can do this for my HOUSE but I can't do it for my CITY????

2) City bans MUST prevent users from using city facilities. That means if an individual is banned from our city not only can they not enter buildings or use terminals BUT they should also not be able to clone in our cloning facility OR land at our shuttleport. In the case of shuttle tickets, the system should not sell them a ticket in the first place. In the case of people who have already stored their cloning data at a facility or purchased a ticket to the city prior to being banned they should be refunded from the city treasury.

3) Banned/Warned individuals must _somehow_ be indicated on the overhead radar. Once I've marked someone as undesirable the other members of the militia need to be able to see that there is a banned/warned individual nearby.

4) It would be REALLY NICE if cities could be declared factional and automatically ban any member of the opposing faction. Not only would this greatly simplify ALL OUR LIVES but it would be good for the RP of the game anyway.

My peace is spoken. Good day

Well, the tool for the GCW is the HQs, nto player cities. Especially since they are capped. You might endup forbidding neutral players to have a city at all.

If that happens, our whole city will be out the window.

"use our facilities"

See you have a mental roadblock there that caused your problem. It's not "yours". It's PUBLIC. Just like in real life. That means, by DEFINITION, that anyone can use them. This may not be a popular fact but it is nevertheless a fact. PAs are for private control & factional issues. Cities are NEVER PRIVATE.

Um, the city ban option is specifically in place to KEEP people from using the facilities. That does include cloning facilities and shuttles, per dev posts and descriptions of the command. It's apparently broken.

Wish I could. It doesn't work. If I get lucky and ban them BEFORE they get in the CF it prevents them from storing clone data there but even then they can still clone there and if they manage to sneak in and store before I ban them I can do NOTHING.

But all of that is a distraction of my point. If there are people or guilds that I KNOW are going to come create trouble in my city then I ought to be able to go to the city management terminal and add them to the ban list BEFORE they come to the city and create trouble. The way it works right now the only way I can ban someone is if I happen to actually SEE them in the city while I'm online and can select them and ban them before they get out of my line of sight. That makes cityban worthless for anything other than griefers who won't go away.

And BTW - anybody who thinks that a city should be public and not tied in to the GCW needs to stop for a minute and ponder one simple fact : THE PC SYSTEM IS EXPLICITLY SET UP TO ALLOW FACTION BASES AND STRUCTURES (turrets, minefields, faction scanners, etc.) TO BE PLACED WITHIN THE CITY AND THERE IS EVEN A SKILL BOX IN THE POLITICIAN TREE EXPLICITLY FOR PLACING FACTIONAL MISSION TERMINALS. Clearly, I'm not making any big leaps here to suggest that a city might want to be able to take steps to align itself for or against certain PA's or factions...

In fact, the big thing I'm reallyasking for is the same ability for my City Hall that I have had all along for my PUBLIC house - the ability to pull up a menu and add people or guilds to the ban list. Now how could that really be too much to ask for? Everything else I suggest after that point is just for the implementation of the city ban itself to have some logical cohesion.

Makes sense to me. Failing that, get a covert scanner put up in front of the cloning center and shuttleport with a few turrets placed around it. That'll keep people from showing up on your doorstep of opposite faction. Except on TC they just made it so an overt can't be attacked for 60 seconds to account for loading...

We certainly have considered that, but when you look at the footprints for that sort of thing and then start trying to get your population in as well it starts looking really ugly (unless you've set up shop somewhere flat and ugly to begin with /coughIG).

Not to mention, if they are not clones anywhere else, they get stuck in an endless loop of not being able to get out of the cloning center.
