Thread: This week in politics: 9/13/04
taking a break today, no petitions/stupid posts/issues to deal with... just me and my PS2
... now that business is done *smirk*, how was your city this week?
We are situated on almost *perfect* buildable land. It's just 1200m from the beaches of Coronet, ideally situated close to the throbbing heart of the galaxy. And yet, despite being so close, the fact that it's offshore means it isn't cluttered with intimidating terrain. It's all just long smooth arches of sandy foliage and a few trees and cliffs added purely for shade. Haven Island is one of the older cities on the Chimaera, founded by Mayor Kenneth early in 2003. Our city roster is currently at 60 citizens and has all the facilities that you would expect from city status, such as the Haven Island Shuttle port.
Now as with all cities we have been through our troubled times with many a citizen falling to the lure of the "hologrind". But now we are determined to resurrect Haven Island from the many Ghost cities and return it to being one of the most fun, free and socially active cities on Corellia, maybe even the Galaxy. To this end mayor Kenneth has decided to step down and peruse his long time dream of starting up a Sharnaff Farm. I have decided to step up into his place and assume the running of the city.
In these troubled times, what with the Rebellion and all Haven Island has tried to remain outside of the politics and trappings of the Galactic Civil War. We do not factionally align ourselves with any one group on the island, Rebel, Hutt and Imperial are all welcome on the island.
So what’s in it for me I hear you ask, well, since you asked.
Research Centre
Haven Island has elected to specialise as a Research Centre, this means that you get +15% added to the final "result roll" on each experimentation attempt when you are in the city. This should improve your chances of getting a "Great Success" or "Amazing Success" while lowering your chances of a critical failure, a must for all those budding artisans.
ORC Guild
The Outer Rim Corsairs (ORC) operate out of Haven Island. Membership of the guild is in no way required for citizenship, but if you are looking to meet new friends, get some help, take part or organise a hunt then give Boaby or Morton a shout, they will be glad to introduce you to the rest of the guild.
Regular Hunts.
We run several organised and impromptu events on a regular basis, these range from resource hunts to help out island craters, "Danger Planet" hunts and frequent trips to the Corvette.
Monthly 1 Million Credit lottery
As a member of the city you will be entered into the Haven Island 1 Million Credit lottery which is run once per month and as a citizen you are automatically entered and could win 1 Million credits.
Zero Tax
Tax free status, we do not charge our citizens and tax at all and that is how we will remain for the future. The city is funded through lot donations and contributions from out wealthier residents.
Free Small House & 10,000 credits
To help you get started we’ll provide you with a free small house to place on the island and 10,000 credits to get you started.
City Malls
We have two very busy malls on the island, Blue Dog Mini Mall and the ORC Guild Hall Mall. Place a vendor in the mall or start our 3rd mall and benefit from the through business as people shop at Soo’s Medicine/CM vendors or Boaby’s triple 80 armour vendor
Neutrality in the Galactic Civil War
In these troubled times, what with the Rebellion and all Haven Island has tried to remain outside of the politics and trappings of the Galactic Civil War. We do not factionally align ourselves with any one group on the island; Rebel, Hutt and Imperial are all welcome on the island.
For more information please visit our island on Corellia 1900, -4500, the nearest starport is Coronet and the nearest Shuttleport is "Haven Island", visit our website http://www.havenisland.co.uk or contact Dunwa Arche in game.
So whether you're an individual, a small guild, or just a group of real life friends who play the game together on a social basis. If you're not a griefer, you're welcome on Haven Island.

Lantyssa Sei'ryuu, Clan Head, citizen report
Tonight, Mayor Nowi will be considered a master of politics. Most of the city will probably not notice, however the two of us have been looking forward to this night for some time.
The past week has been an exciting time for Alya'Starn. We had a merchant consortium move from Tatooine, bringing a small group of people with them. They found a large enough spot to build a new market area and have placed a shop in our existing Mesa Square. Nowi and myself worked with them for some time helping set things up and all of us seem very happy with the arrangement.
We had one issue that has riled up both citizens and Clan members. They were denied placement of a house on the mesa based on it being reserved for shops. Somehow they managed to place a building, using a "trick" but "not an exploit". So far all militia have denied granting zoning rights, and unfortunately the building is blocking what was one possible location for the above consortium's stores. They promised to remove the building, but so far this has yet to occur. We believe they're pretty much going to pump money into it indefinately and we have no way to remove it.
Long-time lurker, first time poster.
Another week in Shay'la's campaign to claim mayorship, as our incumbent, Will'iam shall be leaving in about 2 months.
Out of 82 citizens, last week I only received 9 votes. This week it's looking as I'll be receiving about 27. Still need about 14 more votes. Unfortunately, I fear those 55 are all inactive, and that one day Mos Alianza will shoot from metropolis to outpost.
Of course, not being mayor hasn't stopped me from trying to improve the city! The City Populace Program is in full effect! As I type this, an EG-6 power droid and a womprat are out wandering the city.
Hope to post more in the weeks to come!
