Thread: City Bans and Citizenship

There have been recent questions concerning the fact that a /cityban'ed player can become a citizen when the city expands to encompass their declared residence.

This is, in fact, part of the design. Sorry it's taken so long for me to find this out, but the holiday got in the way.

The only possible bug is that someone that has been /cityban'ed should have the ban flag auto-removed when they become a citizen.

Well if this is the case, why won't the CSR's fix the problem? I have documented conversations and an email from a supervisor saying they can't do a thing. They are waiting on the Devs.

Thanks for the update and hopefully the CSR's get this info too. AND some Mayors and their Militia out there.....

I wonder if the devs will ever stop surprising me with the levels of idiocy they can achieve from time to time. Q, you're the real community guy around here and the one with at least half a brain, will you PLEASE get some people to come here and actually LISTEN for once?????

Cities need a way to ensure that not only can they get rid of jerks, troublemakers, and griefers, but that they can prevent them from joining in the first place. This isn't about ;etting just our friends join, its about managing communities. If you think this is fair, take away banning people from the boards, and see how well YOUR community runs.

Shabhaii... It sounds like you're afraid to be voted out of office...

You have to take the good with the bad. I got /banned because I'm not their friend and they assume (correctly) that I would not vote for the Mayor their clique chose. In any normal city, that's ok, but not in SWG!! Now my vote counts for someone I would never vote for. Even if he got 40 votes and the candidate I wanted got 10, I would at least get to vote for the person I want to vote for. It is a game exploit for xp, period. I would be perfectly fine with the situation if I was not counted as a citizen because of the /ban.

It's not about being afraid to be voted out. It's about that one person you know is going to come along and be a complete and total arse just piss everyone off on purpose. It's basic human nature to have one in every group. Problem is they can just keep coming back whenever they want and continue acting like a jerk, and there's nothing the city can do about it, other than have your militia whack them, but then they'll clone in your city and they're still there.

Shouldn't the city be able to have a more.. permanent solution to the problem then?

Question,

why is city ban not exactly that? a banishment form a city.

As in you can nto enter it's territory?

just like entering a private structure you get kicked out with out permission, same should happen if you are city banned.

the range of extending a zoning rights pardonshould be moved to 1km radius.

as well as pardon and ban.

JMHO.

I have no fear whatsoever about being voted out of office . . . because that's what's supposed to happen someday. I'm not the only politician in town, you know. This isn't about keeping a city yours, its about being able to preserve the hard work that the citizens put into it. Whether that's throwing the harrassing person off of the town square or ensuring that the people camped in a circle around you waiting to expand can't get in and destroy your city hall, it all comes down to preserving the community.

You guys have to remember that they tyranical politician who only lets his best buds into town and bans anyone else instantly, and insists that everyone votes for ONLY HIM ALWAYS, is the exception, not the rule. There is a HUGE difference between that and a town that simply has rules. EVERY community needs rules, and we need to be able to enforce them. For that, we need the appropriate tools for the job, and right now, we don't have them.

The level of griefing that would occur if someone could be banned from a city they didn't actively want to be a part of is the reason this rule is in place. Imagine if a merchant was elected mayor and he banned the other merchants that were outside the city radius at first but engulfed in the city later on down the road. He would effectively force those merchants out of business for no reason other than to minimize competition. That kind of griefing would be unacceptable.

There is a very simple fix for that: do not allow banning on grandfathered structures . . . those there before the city hall.
