Thread: Now that you've played Devils Advocate, Plinka....
And gotten the multitude of responses that are overwelmingly in FAVOR of the non-removal of /citywarn....
How about playing PLAYER'S Advocate?

And you are a proven minority, back to the dungeon with you.
Let's hear some backing from the majority, I have seen tons more support to the idea of keeping the /citywarn command than getting rid of it.
Even though I can appreciate the devils advocate stance in the beginning, the overwhelming response (10+ pages) should be proof enough that it might be a good idea to get with the majority or at least give the majority some idea of what the flipside of this issue is from the devs or something to give us hope that we may retain some modicum of control over the things we have slaved over.
Agree. I must admit that I am concerned that our opinions are not getting heard. It's obvious that you favor the "100% open to all" opinion of the devs, that the player base does not. No offense, but the masses are the ones who count here.
I'm not accusing you of a thing, because I have no way of knowing what is said behind "closed doors", but when changes like this come through that are clearly moving away from the general consensus, one has to wonder.

If the militia is removed I forsee this:
"It was as if thousands of voices cried out, and were suddenly silienced..."
Although the devs are not infallible, I believe that they have a vision of game balance that we do not. If the devs bowed to the majority's opinion at every turn, then the game would suffer indeed. They are making the right choice this time, regardless of what the masses may think.

Translated, that means, "We know better than you. The opinions of the vast majority are merely uneducated."

Hold up Cho,
Before you go deitizing the devs, I know something of what I speak. I've been in the industry designing just this sort of thing for close to a decade now.
If I had done this, my team would have hung me and my producer would have my head on a force-pike upon seeing the sheer number of negative posts.
Sorry Cho, I disagree. I've been reading the dev posts on this game for more than two and a half years, and they KNEW that privatized cities, city warn, and city ban could work effectively if done right. Heck, they were the ones that convinced us that it could be done!

This is how things work, people.
Plinka need to find any holes in arguments before presenting the arguments to the developers, otherwise those holes could destroy an entire line of arguments. Hopefully the thread gave some good hard arguments that can be used in the discussion.
I have complete faith that our points are presented with as much energy as is being used in this forum to find those arguments.
The only thing that is failing in this debate are the people more or less attacking Plinka. Instead of asking what is being done to present our points, energy is being spent to put more stress on the correspondent who should instead be encouraged to be able to present our points with as much clarity as possible. It is very simple that putting stress on the correspondent is only undermining our arguments, not helping them.
I for one have complete faith in Plinka based on previous work in the Test Center forum and here. I am worried that the negativity that some people are showing might affect her ability to work.

I wish I could believe that, but from what I have heard the decision has already been made and nothing Plinka says to the devs will change a thing. At this point she does not appear to be seeking counter-argument material (of which a superfluity has already been provided), but instead seems to be in the position of having to force-feed a top-down decision to a playerbase that demonstrably does not want to eat it.
By claiming "Devil's Advocate" she suggests that she does not agree with the policy (and likely she does not --- I won't call her a liar on that score) but at the same time she is clearly promoting it. I have seen a few responses where she directly addresses an issue pertaining to all of this, but mostly she seems to be be almost blithely discarding any counter-arguments. This seems to lend credence to the idea that it's a "done deal" regardless of anyone'sinput.
This said, I am sorry that Keris Tava has announced its presence and put down a shuttleport. I may well recommend to our next Council meeting that the port be redeeded and placed in mothballs, in order to ensure that anyone who wants to grief us has to travel several kilometers each way to do so. This will of course screw over our merchants since many potential customers will likewise not want to run and swim all that way to get to our wares. I don't expect it to be an easy decision to make, and a lot of people are going to wonder why we worked so hard to make Level 4 if the benefits of doing so are going to wind up being so detrimental to the city's well-being.
