This comes courtesy of eclipse.jowoto who managed to discover 5 sq centemeters of free space on land near Coronet. Having done so, he plunked down a city hall and is taxing the existing residents at 50%. A cool cash cow or a way to claim valuable property. Either way, it really seems hard to believe that SWG had this in mind when they set up the who politician/mayor/city profession.
Oh well... not much we can do about it. If we are dumb enough to continue paying our $15/month Sony is never going to care
[edit]
I wishto state here, for the record:
1)I am not encouraging anyone to use this, if in fact it is an exploit, as doing so is against SWG rules. My calling it an exploit and mentioning it as such in the forums was wrong.
2) However, it does appear that the general concensusis that this isgriefing, and I am certainly not encouraging anyone to actin this manner either.

Well if you're concerned just run against him and there you go, it is incredibly easy to overthrow a mayor now so you just became the leader of suburbia. Destroy the hall and free your minions or try and bring order to the place and make a great merchant town complete with shuttleport sans the lag of your big neighbor. Hell one of our long lasting metro's on Bloodfin is a viewable distance away from Coronet's starport. There is basically the minimum distance between it's no build zone and Coronet's no build zone possible. Personally I dislike being a suburb of an NPC city but I'm not the only one that plays this game and that is attractive to some. You might just become a well respected and used town.
Of course all of these moves that you can do is based on me assumingyou aren't apathetic to an extreme...which you appear to be since you not only continuously play a game you loathe but pay for it as well.

for every 100 good mayors that run towns the right way you get 1-2 idiots like this that pull this crap, guess who gets the most attention for it tho
if it doesnt just rott away be grateful it wont ever grow past level1, id doubt any vendor owner would declare residence in that "town"

This same thing happened on Starsider not too long ago. An idiot came in just outside of Coronet and plopped a city hall down and jacked up the taxes. Everyone raised h3ll, but it never did any good because of the screwed up voting.
Maybe now they'll get him out.

LOL you folks never answered this guys original question which is?
Is this an exploit??
This thread seems more of a way to bad mouth someone to me. Sounds like you guys have opinions made already without hearing the real story. I dont see how respectable people can make judgements without uncovering the truth or not only that, actually feed this guy lines so he feels better about himself. Why not tell him to rename his post to "Jowoto is a jerk" instead of trying to play it off as some sort of game breaking news. To be honest I dont really care what the politician community thinks about me or my city and I just wanted to make sure you guys know this now since you wont be hearing anything in regards to it other than this. BUT PLEASE JUST ANSWER THIS GUY CORRECTLY so he can get in through his head that it is not an exploit to place a city somewhere that has a FEW houses (keep in mind that they were all his and no one elses).

It's an action by a playerin bad taste and griefing others.
How do you define exploitation? In my mind yes you are exploiting the system if what I am envisioning had happened but this all depends on how you look at it. It isn't game breaking to say the least and it isn't new but whether it is an exploit is in the eye of the beholder.

Baccabus refers to the need to hear the "real story" - well if anyone wishes to waste more time on this nonsense, the "real story" - the whole truth and nothing but the truth as it were, can be found here:
Bacabus asked you to "...PLEASE JUST ANSWER THIS GUY CORRECTLY so he can get in through his head that it is not an exploit..."
OK, my bad. It's not an exploit, its griefing. I appologise for using the wrong word and for misunderstanding the meaning of "exploit" in SWG terms.
"...to place a city somewhere that has a FEW houses (keep in mind that they were all his and no one elses). "
If you bother to further waste your time with this issue,Baccabus' associate Visionelle states, in his second post that there were three [3] other residents in the area who also did not want to join their city. This means there were at least three other houses in the area and that they were in fact not all mine.
Additionally, if you were to visit this island, you would see that it is full of houses, the majority of which predate the installation of their city hall by several months.
Best regards,

is it an exploit? maybe
is it griefing? definitly
and it doesn t matter if there s one person or several person you try to rip off or get out of the place. They ve been there first so learn to live with them or look for another place.
And i suggest the others should run for politician and vote the mayor out and destroy the city hall.

um correct me if I'm wrong, but if you live in a city don't you have the option of giving up citizenship and not moving your house? if not why do you have the "revoke citizenship" choice on the city hall menu? If the citizens don't like it they should go and revoke their citizenship OR go place temporary houses outside of town and declare residency elsewhere. They don't HAVE to live with it, if they stay they CHOSE to live with it.

That doesn't exempt you from taxation however. So they can choose to keep the serene spot they decided to place their house to begin with and pay exorbitant amounts in taxation or be booted out of town by a robber baron. Nice options there.
