Thread: Leading a guild: Fun or no?
Running a guild can be great fun as well as a pain in the butt sometimes. We started off with just 5 members and had only 5 members for a few weeks. Then for some reason we just started to grow and grow fast. We added 20 new members in a matter of two weeks. Which was a bit too much. Growing two fast didn't allow new members to really get to know current members. As guild leader, I was getting 3 - 4 tell's as I logged on and eventually play with my AFK message on instructing people to see me in guild chat. We've also set up new rules and guildlines which includes the sponsoring member must act as a "big brother" to the new member and acclimate them to the guild.
When I first started playing I wanted to join a guild and was disgusted that most guilds wouldn't accept me because I was new. Now I completely understand. We were allowing new players (less than a week) to join and they soakedall my play time with silly questions easily answered by taking some time to read the holocron or visit this Web site. Now we've stated that players must be on SWG for at least a month or mastered one profession. Coincidently, the new players that did join were hardcore and mastered and learned pretty damn fast!
I've been pretty lucky that the 5 founding members are great help are we really consider all of us guild leaders and we get along great. We divide up guild responsabilities so that everyone gets their fun time. Now that we've restricted growth, allowing for new members to become acclimated, we've built a strong core of 25 players all which participate in group activities and have fun doing their own thing. We've also set up a good set of guildlines such as 1) no lewd or sexual comments made to female characters, 2) no racial slurs and Rules of Engagement for GCW PvP so everyone can have a good time. That's pretty much it!
Shoot...
I meant "too" not "two". I can't believe I did that! Ahh! I need to slow my typing down.
