I respectfully disagree Jascentia. The entire assumption is that the Leader leaves without having some sort of succession plan and leaves people with access to admin features of the guild that the majority disagrees with. That sounds like a guild that has no chance of success regardless of who the new leader is.

Guilds reform. People quit. The successful Guilds are those that have a plan of action and everyone knows the plan. If the Guild depends on one person to run everything, it will ultimately fail.

This is true in many cases, but it is possible to have a sizeable guild without a real succession plan... especially if the leader's departure is totally unforseen. Even if a guild doesn't have the most succession-consious leader, the guild can still be a powerful, respected, and prideful organization. I know because I have seen this very situation blow up on various server forums. To me, and to them, "start over with a different name" just isn't an acceptable answer. Allegience was originally intended to give another person in the guild the opportunity to step up to the challenge and keep the community together - regardless of the intentions or abilities of the previous leader.

One of the (few) good originalintentions of the PA system is that there would never be a dead end. I feel a responsibility to be sensitive to dead-end situations. That doesn't mean your ideas aren't perfectly plausable! I just want to make sure that when we finally get the PA developments we want, we don't end up shooting ourselves in the foot. It mustbe done right.

We too grant e-mail and sponsorship rights to all members after a probation period. We've had no problems with it and it has encouraged regular Clanmates to arrange outings and events. If someone were to abuse this then they could have the right removed or even be kicked out so I don't see it as a problem.

As for a plan if something should happen to me, my trusted second in command has always had access to my account should he need it and vice versa. That ensures the ease of continuity with or without the game mechanics.
