Thread: Hiding the Guild Tag Is this possible?
If the /anonymous and /roleplay commands work like in other games, then this would be the answer.I liked how EQ had it where:
- regular - guild tag shows, doing a /who playername will show location, race, profession, etc.
- /roleplay - guild tag shows, but in "/who"no other info about char. is shown aside from the name
- /anonymous - no guild tag, not listed in /who
I feel anyone should be free to do their own setting including the display or non-display of their guild tag. I've known guild members that truly wish to immerse themselves in their character and not even display their guild tag at all, but have remained loyal members to the guild.
The interesting note back in EQ, was even though the person was anonymous, if you were lucky enough to see them in person and was able to target them and do a /guildstatus, you will get what guild they are a member of and their rank.
Any rate... just giving my 2 credits...
We are a group of rebel who would like to start a rebel PA. We hope the guild chat will allow better coordination against the Imperials. We have used the private chat facilities but having to create them and re-invite everyone every single day is getting old.
When discussing the idea of a guild, it was pointed out that the guild tag would identify every single person in the guild as a rebel. Even those covert rebels we have posted at various location to keep and eye on the Imperials.
For this reason, most of the people we need to coordinate attacks would not be interested in joining a PA.
Is there some way to not have the guild tag appear next to your name? If not can we request this feature?
I kinda like the permission thing, this would allow new recruits to a guild be on probation and not be identified as part of the guild. Prevents new guild members from mis-representing the guild until after a probation period.
On the other hand, this is a related issue. When the player's permissions are changed to allow the guild tag, does the player still have the option of not displaying the tag. That remains the issue. On the other hand, the guild leader would be able to create a classification in the guild called "spys" and not grant these people permission. That would allow coverts to join the guild without anyone outside the guild knowing. That could be a fun thing.
Hmmm, that's another setting entirely. We'd be talking about three settings On, Off, and Toggle. Off might be for new people to the PA. On might be for the majority of PA Members, Toggle would be for a special operations rank, they could choose to have the tag on/off depending on the situation.
If there was only a setting for on/off this would be possible. Lets speculate on guilds, I assume that the guild leader can set up a level system within the guild. New people in the guild get level 0 and the guild leader gets level 9.
Based upon role-playing within the guild, people can be promoted up the ladder from 0-8. Level 9 is reserved for the guild leader. Now if I could set Guild Tag=On/Off for each level then I could define my levels as such
0 - Initiate Guild Tag = Off
1 - Spy (private) Guild Tag = Off
2 - Spy (corpral) Guild Tag= Off
3 Spy (sergeant) Guild Tag = Off
4 Spy (major) Guild Tag = Off
5 Overt (private) Guild Tag = On
6 Overt (corpral) Guild Tag = On
7 Overt (sergeant) Guild Tag = On
8 Overt (major) Guild Tag = On
9 General (Guild Leader) Guild Tag = One
So this would allow me to have covert operativs and still give them progression in the ranks of the guild while allowing them to hide their Guild Tag. In typical guilds not allowing a person from showing thier guild affilation is a punishement or lack of experience in the guild. Here it would be a true game feature.
I dont know the current guild ranking system so I assumed 0-9.
This would meet me needs. Not as well as the individual having the power to toggle it on or off but it does allow coverts to join a guild without the guild tag giving them away.
Geez, Keep It Simple Stupid
Make it a player enabled option and leave out the math class. I am in a rebel town and I want to recruit, it's on. I am wandering the weeds in Impie Land, it's off. How hard is that?

I agree with your KISS idea. That would be best in my opinion. But someone suggested....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
There is no way to do this right now. I would suggest implementing it as a permission. Then, the PA Leader could have control over who (if anyone) in the PA should be allowed to hide their tag. What do you think.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thus some of my subsequent posts discussed this method of implementing the hiding of the faction tag. If the solution was to allow the guild leader to assign certain guild ranks to display it, then it is possible to implement the hiding of guild tags via asssigning a guild rank to someone and have that rank not allowed to display it.
Ideally I would prefer this to be up to the individual who can then turn it on and off at will but the above method would also suit my needs.
Let me ask then....
Are there any PA Leaders who would NOT want their members to be able to toggle the PA Tag at will?
I think Guild chat still crashs on a daily bases. You're better of using something like Team Speak. My PA uses it and it works out very well.
I would rather not have our members be given the ability to toggle their own overhead. The possibility of having a griefer among your ranks is just too easy.
Not a smack on my guild, however, should problems arise, Joe Blow from Xarxet griefing in Theed is alot easier for me as GM to effectively manage.
