Thread: Question: How do you define Pure Pistoleer
a "Pure Pistoleer" is some one who has no other Pistol Skills outside of the Marksman and Pistoleer Professions. Meaning that they arn't "Dabbling" in Bounty Hunter or Smuggler.
Personaly I'm just 19,000 Combat XP away from mastering Pistoleer. My Template is as follows
Marksman- 0 4 0 4
Scout - Master
Medic - 4 3 0 3
Ranger - 0 4 0 0
Pistoleer - 4 4 4 3
With this Template I can run up and down steep hills like they're nothing and mask my scent to it's fullest potential. With the ranged support line from marksman I can Threaten shot things away from myself and friends that are really laying the smack down on us. With my awesome Hi-Tech Field Bases I can put my Medic skills to their fullest potential by crafting better medicines, and healing much quicker. The Medic skills are also very handy in tight combat situations.
A pure pistoleer is about ability more than profession. It's someone that wants to be a one trick pony but be really **edit** good with that one trick. So all points are invested in the ability to be the absolute best with a pistol, best damage, best speed, maximum variability with a pistol.
Even with all the changes and nerfs this way of thinking is still very viable both in pvp and pve. Although I believe one could do better to improve their overall survivability and have more fun. Examples would be having master pistoleer with BH pistol line, or Smuggler and a little Commando. The idea is to build a template that tries to get the job done with just pistols, having the maximum number of pistol specials and certifications.

Would be a lot tougher being a pistoleer if it wasn't for the marksman ranged support line, for threaten shot alone.
An interesting point has been raised that no one will ever be pure pistoleer...nor pure any profession that they have mastered because even MasterBHs, who spend a ton of skill points, still have a tiny bit left to dabble with.
So, with all this discussion going around, I'm noticing a lot of people have different ideas about what a "Pure Pistoleer" is, and we probably ought to settle on a baseline otherwise we are just going to end up going round and round in discussions.
So whats a "pure Pistoleer"? Is it just pistoleer with no other combat focused class? Does it allow/include other marksman level stuff like the ranged support line or master marksman?
I'm a Master Ranger, about to master pistoleer, I have the whole ranged support line, and rifle I and carbine I in marksman leaving me with 0 skill points left. I consider myself a pure, or mostly pure pistoleer because, outside of ranged support and those two "minor" rifle carbine boxes I got cause I only will have 4 skills points left on mastering pistoleer so I might as well spend em somewhere, I'm only invested in pistoleer.
So...here are my proposed definitions:
1) Pure Pistoleer - To only have novice marksman, the marksman pistol line, and pistoleer. All other skill points are spent outside the Brawler and Marksman Trees and their associated Elite/Hybrid professions. (ie. you spend your remaining skill points only in scout, entertainer, or artisan and the elite/hybrid professions from those that are not associated with brawler or marksman).
2) Mostly Pure Pistoleer - Same as Pure Pistoleer only you are also invested in the Ranged Support line of Marksman.
3) Marksman Pistoleer - Same as Mostly Pure Pistoleer only you have also spent skill points on the rifle/carbine lines of Marksman and perhaps Mastered Marksman as well.
Everyone think those definitions are fair for these discussions when we are talking about pure pistoleer players and the ones close to it(Mostly Pure and Marksman Pistoleers)? If not, lets settle on something here because its just causing confusion. Remember not all Pistoleers by far are PvP oriented or spend all there other points in combat related stuff(I play PvE only..specifically hunting animals and utilizing my Ranger skills towards that).
So, lets get a clear definition that everyone can agree on so that way when we say things like "As a pure pistoleer I really think we should have <blah>.", we know exactly what they are talking about so we don't waste effort arguing between ourselves over what's pure, whats not, etc.

or pistoleer/ch combos? Poke-leers?
TKA / pistoleer? Punch-oleers?
Seroiusly, I think this makes sense, a pure pistoler has only the pistoleer tree and it's needed pre-req's.
I'd just call all the rest Hybrid pistoleers. That is, people who focued on Pistoleer, then spent points in combat related lines outside of marksman(brawler, elites from marksman and brawler, and hybrids from either base profession). I specifically put the 3 definitions there because, since marksman is a requirement to get to pistoleer, it makes sense clarifying how much you also have invested in marksman since it does incur some added mods and abilities.
As for the rest, Hybrid pistoleer I think would do...no sense trying to name every other combat related combination because its practically infinite...not always effective, but there to chose amongst.
It's a discussion of segretation in SWG.
Metaphorically speaking, of course.
It is the ability of our mods to stack with other classes that makes some templates that include pistoleer over powered.
As long as we are treated like we ALL have a second combat proff to suppot our pistoleer skills we will never get anything in the pistoleer tree fixed. Any rifleman is a pure rifleman, and any carbineer without BH carbine is a pure carbiner. Things get a little more muddy when you add smuggler and bh into the mix. Last ditch every second is overpowered, stoppingshot every 2 seconds isn't.
