Thread: Question: How do you define Pure Pistoleer
Well, the simple fact you can ask this question is revelant if you ask me, strange no one is wondering what is a pure Rifleman...

Ok, so then what would an Expert BH/Master pistoleer be called? This template stills puts emphasis on the pistol, so why would this be any less pure? Pistoleer=Pistol user. Maybe a "pure pistoleer" should just master pistoleer and hope for an Elite-Elite profession for the pistoleer, for that is the only "true" "Pure pistoleer".
We just use the term "pure Pistoleer" to distinguish people who are just Pistoleers from people who are also BHs, Smugglers, or Commandos. It's not a big deal, really, just a phrase people use as shorthand. ![]()
There is no such thing as a pure pistoleer like there is no such thing as a pure smuggler or even a pure Bounty hunter. All of us have points in other professions.
I am working on master pistoleer. I am already aMaster Smuggler, After that I will master TKA. Im not a dabbler becuase I will have mastered all 3 professions. I am only a smuggler becuase that is what I think of myself as.
So what is a pure pistoleer? its anyone that thinks of themself as a pistoleer first and everything else second.
i am a master smugger master tka master pistoleer. its fun. i wish multi target pistol shot and disarm2 did something.
I belive i am a pure pistoleer ish..
I only have marksman skills enough to get Pistoleer.
I have mastered just pistoleer.
Now i do have medic
And yes i am a MCH.. BUT i only use pets cause i HAVE to. I cant do squat without my pet(s)
In response to why this thread exists...it demonstratesseveral things:
1) How differing people's opinions are on what the definition of a pure pistoleer is.
2) People's opinions on how much a pistoleer should be capable of and, because of their opinion, their attiitude towards pistol capabilities present in other professions.
3) The range of flexability a pistoleer has and people's opinion towards that (good bad or negative).
But most importantly, it shows, in part, one of the main issues the Pistoleer profession is facing: An identity crisis.
You see, pistoleer is made up of more non-(pure combat) centric players than any other combat profession. However, due to its flexability, it is also one of the most sought after by pure-combat centric professions in one form or another. You have BHs, Smugglers, commandos, and pistoleers all mixing around, yet competing with each other.
The end result is you have a profession that consists of two large extremes: those who think of it as a stand alone profession because it is their only form of combat which they use to suppliment their main profession, and those who use it in part, or whole, to gain advantage in pure combat(usually PvP).
Both extremes want the profession to do well, but both have different ideas on how far it should be taken and how it should be approached.
Look at some of the recent issues of discussion and the varying opinions:
Fan Shot - "it should stay a cone it lets me deal with lots of mobs and support in a group", "It shouldn't be a cone, its of no use to me soloing on in PvP vs single targets"
Stopping shot - "It needs status effects" "It doesn't need status effects it needs more speed" "It needs knockdown"
MTPS - "It needs to only work on things in combat with me" "It needs to work on everything in range"
Defenses - "Defenses are worthless to me, speed is key" "Defenses are great...I have a hard enough time staying alive as is"
And it goes on and on. Pistoleer is such a "general purpose" weapon profession they it consists of hybridizers, pure combatants, non-combatants who want something just in case, PvEers, PvPers, soloers, etc. The majority of the other elite combat professions don't have to deal with near as many issues. Rifleman and Carbineers don't ahve near the hybridization potential and tend to go into those classes for the sake of it. Brawler professions are a different genre entirely. BHs, Commandos, and smugglers are all taken by people who are attracted to the lure(or power) provided by those professions for specific purposes.
Pistoleer? Its the one everyone picks by default. The result...we all want pistoleer to be better, but we all have different visions on its direction. About the only things we can agree on are the completely worthless or busted skills needing improvement or replacing(like Disarm), but even then we have a hard time agreeing on where to take it.
Each different group has a different need out of pistoleer, and unless we can establish some baselines and direction, we are going to have a hard time making pistoleer into something that keeps most folks happy(because face it, Pistoleer will never be the Uber profession...the question is, given that reality, whats the best way to make it good for everyone that uses it.
No, its not all out warfare between sides in here, so don't get me wrong...but there is a lot of differing vision too.
this can be argued in may way. In my opinion a pure pistoleer is someone that is a master of all pistol with tremedous skill. Im not referring to Master Pistoleer either. So somoeone that has invested all their skill pts to using every pistol in the game effectively. This could be one of my mixes here are a few example
BH Pistol4 withDirty Fighting line from smugglar, along wtihas much of Novice Pistoleer as possible
BH Pistol 4 with Novice Commando (in order to use Launcher Pistols, blast damage) with as much Novice pistoleer skills as possible
Or Master Pistoleer with BH, smugglar dirty fighting or commando.
Either way the person would be dedicating pretty much his entire 250 skill pts to truely master the pistol, not just the pistoleer tree. That is a "pure pistoleer" IMO
