The only knockdown that we have is PistolMeleeDefense1. Since it only has a 7m range, it's not nearly as effective as the ranged knockdowns that Carbineers, Bounty Hunters, and Smugglers have.

and considering TKA's and othe rmelee users had their range INCREASED recently...i think they have liek a 10m or soemhting range now..... we actually get outranged on a melee attack by melee users! lol
Melee can only take more damage if it's melee damage. All melee professions have the ability to gain "toughness" as they level up to provide natural resistane to melee damage. Note, this is melee damage. This does not mean kinetic. That means even if you're using a power hammer that does blast damage the resistance still factors. Nothing saves anyone from ranged combat.
The only meleers who can target all 3 HAMs is the Teras Kasi and it's not "high damage." In PvE the highest damage possible is 800 damage. Otherwise they fall back on random HAM damage.
A master TKA can do about 1300 damage in PvE solidly but with his bare fists. This is AP0 damage. Moving to AP1 is possible but then the HAM cost rises to about 200 from 83.
Ranged combat professions are able to do damage from longer distances. Meleers are restricted to a relatively small window. The Teras Kasi Artists in particular gain the ability to hit as hard due to their understanding of the body. In general, the TKA has reached an understanding of mind and body to where they are able to manipulate their bodies to provide healing as well as buffing effects. Those are the defensives skills applied. Offensively this means they can beat an unarmored target senseless.
hmmm let me think bs3 does how much damage to a single pool? 600 tka - 800
as for ham cost that all has to do with the way your stats are migrated so that has nothing to do with this issue. if i wear full armor my quiuckess goes to 2 points to fire last ditch its 156 points to a ramdom ham. if i use lowblow that 246 ham cost that cannot kd a mellee char.
with a scout blaster low ham cost weapon(same as no knuclers) max damage is last ditch (smuggler dirty fighting line most powerful pistol attack) is about 1100 most i hit with a scout blaster with 32% max 16% min damage power up is 1240.
dx2 high ham cost max damage 1700 ap1
fwg5 high ham cost max 2800 ap0
so you see they do more damage them a pistoleer hands down and with power boost and defensive mods they can take 3 times the damage a barely do more damage buts its still more damage

so you see the numbers show that not only can they outdamage a pistoleer but they can take alot mor damage than a pistoleer. some there seems a little wrong to me, i could be wrong though but i doubt it.

tka- melee 42/ranged 30/dodge 0/toughness 53

Right. But you can do this at 60m. A TKA can do this at .... 10m. It's much harder for a TKA to pull off a targetted pool attack than it does a pistoleer. The reward for pulling this off is increased damage. BS3 does more than 600 damage. My gun BS3 tops out at 1200.

Again, you don't have to get into your targets face to do your damage.
What pistoleer get is the ability to do damage at practically any range. What TKA doesn't get is the ability to do damage at any range. In exchange they get badass damage and tanking power. If you want to deny the TKA their offensive power, you just stay out of range. It's easier to stay out of a TKA's range than it is to stay out of a pistoleer's range. In fact in a TKA vs. Pistoleer engagement, the pistoleer gets a head start on damage.
2800 AP0 damage? That's better than a TKA is able to pull. Against KD targets I can only do 1800 AP0 damage. I can't power up my fists either. One of the joys of TKA is that you use your HAM killer knuckles (39/55/39). DX2 has lower HAM (23/41/15).
Low Blow can KD a melee char.
Don't bull**edit** me about pistoleer, smuggler and teras kasi capabilities. I'm a master of all 3.
