There is no reason to use a DX2 over an FWG5 or Scout regardless of whether or not the mob is vulnerable against acid. This is just my opinion based off of personal experience. I tend to have better results using an FWG5 or Scout because the HAM cost on the DX2 is so high. Being able to spam special moves that do 400% more damage then regular attacks is a MUST HAVE for pistols. Damage done with normal attacks is just pathetic, and since the DX2 is a sub-par weapon, its going to be even less then an FWG5 or Scout Blaster. To top it all off, according to tests I have done, and according to weaponsmiths I have spoken with, the DX2 just like every other pistol (other then the SR combat pistol) has a 0 AR. What a pathetic excuse for a weapon.

In order to make the DX2 a viable weapon, it needs to have its AR upped to at least 1, and the action cost lowered to be at least equal to, or slightly overthe FWG5.

Its a shame I am seeing 90+-190+ 1.9 speed scatters on blood fin but the best DX2 is like 30-120 3 speed. Hoepfully when the proper resources are fount they DX2s get much much better. Only using a FWG5 and a Scout myself (both about 65 raw dps).

Don't forget that the need to fix the crafting bug with multiple, factory crafted subcomponents. Currently only the stats on one are taken into account. In the case of DX2s, I think they require two factory identical power couplers. However, because only one is taken into account right now, the final stats on DXs are not currently optimal. Once that's fixed, DXs will be a bit better. Then they'll be much better when made with high quality resources.

Kallek_Truestryker ,

Only two advantages are predicted for the DX2 at end-game that I can think of.

#1 Deflectors do not have Acid protection (they go right through deflectors)

#2 The DPS on the base DX2 is much higher than the base DPS on the scout and the FWG5, in theory, meaning the high-end stats should also be better overall (around 20% more DPS). Of course, probably horrible action cost too though

The DX2 looks doofy IMO. So many of the weapons were taken from the movies...in some cases those movies that were made back in the 70s...that they are hoplessly outdated looking. But it's accurate at least.

As it is currently, you're right, with very high quality FWG5s doing heat damage which basically goes through almost all currently worn armor types, it's a no-brainer.

Power5 will be higher damage than the FWG5, but I suspect being energy it won't be worth the switch. SRcombat AR1 but also energy, so shields and armor protect well against it (have to work out #s for AR to see if it's really worth anything). Kinetic is a joke, yes it goes through shields but almost all armor is very effective vs kinetic...that and the strike pistol has horrible DPS.

So high end weaponry, DX2 is looking "ok" as long as well crafted ones become available. Haha, but that's based off the strat guide...which = no basis at all

I have a (very crappy) SR Combat Pistol, and I would have to say it's the best Energy based pistol there is.

While I haven't seen a greatly crafted one yet, the damage numbers(because of the AR1 rating, not the dmg range) are very high. When weaponsmiths are able to tweak this out to it's fullest(Im thinking it's also a resource problem right now), then this will be a contender for the high-end combat where more and more people will have armor, and also PvE since most creatures have low AR.

Jaegen, heard anything on the Tangle Pistol? I've never come across one in all my searching so Im still wondering if stun(?) damage performs well. Weaponsmiths usually dont know these small intricacies of weapons so Im sure none will be made unless asked for.

I think in my later career I'll have a tough time deciding on a DX2 or a SR Combat pistol(maybe tangle), has anyone ever noticed that some of the big creatures out there(esp pets) have huge heat resistances?

BAH! All a man needs is a good scout blaster at his side!

(and a small army at his back when he gets overpowered, but that’s not my point…teehee).

Seriously…I’ve heard (and please don’t take this for gospel, this was from conversations I’ve had with various crafters and I’ve seen it discussed elsewhere) that the problem with the DX2 is not only that the resources are insane (rare, harder yet to find in good quality, etc), but that there is something buggy about the gun.

Now, this is going to suck to explain, because I can’t remember WHAT it was I was told was the problem…but something in the creation, the addition of multiple types of the same component, don’t stack like they should be, giving you a lower powered gun.

Now, it is Acid, so I’ll probably try to get one (I’m also trying to get a SR, Power5, and an FWG5, but I can’t find any that tickle my fancy, so to speak…or, in the case of SRs, I can’t find one at all!).

I spoke with our resident Master Weaponsmith on the Intrepid server, planet Corellia and he says nobody has come up with the Titanium Aluminum needed to craft the DX2 pistols. It appears this differs by server and perhaps the quality of the raw materials gathered so far is low and thus the pistols don't appear very good.

The problem with DX2s is they suck. I made 10 of them as soon as the resources where available and was appalled at the stats. I sold them allfor 1 credit each and swore I wouldn't make another one until the schematic is fixed. This is more than just a problem with poor or hard to obtain resources; the schematics for most of thehigh end weapons are bugged. Any weapon that requires mutilple components doesn't seen to drevice any benefit from those components. I've basicly stopped making most high end weapons until this problem is fixed.

I have a few. The stats I have aren't that great and action cost is outrageous on them, but I have them. Since no one wears armor in PvP or uses deflectors, and since those that DO wear armor 99% of the time STILL have 0 heat resist, it makes sense to use an FWG5 in most cases. Usually at least 2x the damage output. At least that's what I've seen so far. In PvE it might have uses vs ACID vulnerable mobs, but honestly, why bother, just switch mobs.

Every crafter I talk to says the #1 issue with high-end good weapons is:
Resources

I suspect until something changes or a lot of time passes, you just won't see many. And when the resources do show, there will be a limited quantity.

Check a crafter site or the weaponsmith board, is my suggestion. These folks spend their entire game time looking for resources and crafting, in many cases...if they can't make them, it's not for lack of trying:

96 Metal
50 Titanium Aluminum
40 Reactive Gas
26 Inert Petrochemical
20 Platinite Copper
14 Copper
12 Low Grade Ore
5 Crystalline Gemstone
4 Gemstone

No idea what's rare off there. I assume it's also got to be super quality in the right places as well. Resources are scarce, there are somtimes NO resources of a particular type...and when it finally does spawn, it might be horrible quality.
