If you're ever going to do any serious PvE: Enhanced Kwi's (Geo Cave), Nightsisters (Dathomir), etc., you'll have to have a full set of good composite and a full set of Doctor buffs. I'm a Zabrack and have my mind secondaries maxed out and still can't wear a full set of comp without Vasarian Brandy along with buffs.

Once you have your armor on just never take it off Though you said you areonly pve, I pvp very well with a full suit of armor and no buffs. You just have to heal your action every now and then. It also works well doing pve.

I've found that armor is of questionable use to the unbuffed Pistoleer. It's hard to prove mathematically, but I seemed to hurt myself more with the encumbrance than the damage I avoided unless I used buffs of some kind (food, doctor, spice, etc). For PvE, at least. This wasmade worseby the fact that a Pistoleer has to fire so many shots to bring down his target - those increased HAM costs really add up. That doesn't mean it wouldn't help to wear a piece or three and down some consumables, for the Pistoleer who doesn't want to mess with finding a doctor.

Ialso prefer that sleek, "I don't need armor to kick your ass" look.

It makes sense that armor wouldn't work so well for us unbuffed. Prelaunch the developers said they seldom expected to see a ranged combatant wearing armor, and certainly not a full suit. That went out the window when armor reached 2-3x the anticipated protection and Doctor buffs reached levels of insanity.

I'm not sure about other servers, but on Gorath some of the best pvp'ers are pistoleers. The pistoleer profession is the best profession when not buffed. Most of the popular professions have high mind Ham costs when firing. A t21 uses 70-100 ham per shot whereas an fwg5 or Geo pistol uses around 20. Now masters at both professions(if you have skill tapes as pistoleer)will be firing 1 per second(yeah, riflemen shoot their 7speed rifle faster than our 2speedpistol), the rifleman's ham cost grow exponentially compared to the ham costs of a pistoleer.

I believe with out armor you will die way to fast. A rifleman/tka/tka can take you out in just a few shots.A flamerthrowercan kill you instantly. As a pistoleer, you must focus on surviving and letting you enemy help you out by killing themselves with their ham costs. I suggest wearing a helmet and chest plate when pvpin, but in my case my secondaries are so low I might as well be wearing the whole suit

Randonb, I miss the old days of no armor too, but with 70-80% base armor it is hard to pass up.

For pve i atleast recommend wearing a ubesejacket(if you are fighting animals), low encum and cheap to buy. Also carry a decent helmetand only wear it in thosejust incaseemergencies when your mind is getting low.

I recently started playing SWG again after a 3 month absensce. I decided to buy some composite armor with 80+% resists. Being that I hadn't played in so long, I forgot about the whole encuburance thing and I can't even wear most of the pieces. Pretty stupid I know. So I'm wondering should I bother with it? Do a stat migration to try and wear it? I hear this high end composite stuff will soon get the nerf. I am wondering what you guys use for Armor? What kind? What are the stats? How do you deal with encumburance?

I was think of reselling this stuff and finding some other armor that had a lower encumburance? Good idea or bad? Any takers?

Thanks

A lot of that depends on what you want to do with it. For PvE, all you REALLY need is the chestplate 'cuz that's where the mobs usually hit. With buffs, you can do it all, though. Unfortunately, for us combat folks, it's almost necessary to be constantly buffed these days.

Get yourself buffed by a doctor and find some good Vasarian Brandy to buff Mind, Willpower and Focus. Then you'll be able to wear that armor.

Oh, there's the ticket. On Kettemoor, no one even ties their shoes without being buffed these days.

what about 25-30% kinetic mabari for pve? Could a pistoleer survive in it? I have a set of 25% or some mabari, think I'll give it a try in the next couple of days. I'll just carry a PSG for a backup if it doesn't go well.

With buffs and food/drink, armor is your friend. Period.
