Thread: melee defense 1 overpowered
plain and simple, i am a novice TKA with power techniques I, i started fighting these imps today who were using TEFS for an advantage against all covert rebels in town and i decide to go take em out, so i run up to one, and swing at him while berserked and i hit him for 550, he turns around and uses melee defense one on me for 600 with a scout blaster and thats it, i was knocked down and he hammered me with knockdown till i was dead. hows this anywhere near fair? its not, pistol whip should be like unarmed lunge, it should knockdown but do no more damage than a standard pistol attack. otherwise why be a TKA, theres no point if i am gonna get knocked down on the first hit and have no chance of fighting back
Nerf everything. Everyone should be brawlers. You should be able to master brawler, and that's it. Everyone should be equipped with the same swords, and no armor. All racial penalties/bonuses should be removed. Imperials and Rebels shouldn't be teams - everyone should kill everyone. There should be no special attacks - only regular attacks. You can't use anything but the sword you're given. You can't even unequip the sword. There should be no death, and really no incapacitation. After all, how is it fair if two people fight one and one can't win?
Until that point, balance is unobtainable. There will always be someone with an advantage in a given situation. Maybe instead of trying to get other people nerfed, you should use your own knockdown before they get a chance, and then hit them with one of your 1000+damage Charging Wampas or whatever.
ok good post Goshozal and good point Goshozal. no balance will never be achieved the main reason i made this post was because the guy i dueled(which lead to my being TEF'ed against his group members) insisted on dueling in the med center and owuldnt come out, so i walked in, he came up right beside me while i couldnt see him and dueled then pistol whipped inside of a second and i had no chance.
my gripe is more how whoever has knockdown basically wins nowadays. thats all

With that said. Yes, we can knockdown, but so can you. Currently pvp in this game means whoever knocks down first wins. Get used to it until things change.
Well, if you're dueling someone in the med center because he won't go outside, there's your first clue that he's gonna be a lamer.
Had he opened with knockdown, it would have been different.
My concern is that the pistol whip range is longer thanTKA knockdown. HAM costs with VK's are bad for specials (about 5x that of pistol, between themultipliers and the base), so people will use TKA knockdown barehanded. Barehands however are *slower* than VK's, so you move from say 1.8s with a nice sliced VK to maybe 2.5s barehanded, and compare that to the base pistol speed you get, and you will see from a practical standpoint TKA's are slower with knockdown than pistoleers, which is really very sad since martial artists spend considerable time training specifically this sort of thing.Personally I think any brawler in melee range of a pistoleer should clean up, as that pistoleer has the advantage of range until they close. Couple this ability to range attack with kiting and the bug that you cant brawl while moving and the lack of a decent /stick function, and you can see that brawlers do have a legitimate gripe about losing to marksmen at zero range.
So there is a legitimate complaint regarding pistoleers v. brawlers, and my guess is ultimately either brawlers will get beefed or pistoleers nerfed to give brawlers a distinct edge in melee.
