It's not the greatest pvp template, but it is great in a group as your defence mods are pretty good, it would be even better with some FS range speed to get your pistol speed up. It's a really good template for tanking too, and if you go Master Smuggler, then you get a trade to make good money if you so desire. I was making more money slicing rancor missions for 50k or so a time, and they only took a moment to complete

Definitely my favourite template so far, currently I've gone BH pistols and dropped most of TK, but I may change it back again soon

You can hold your own in pvp and due very well in pve. Basically you can solo nearly anything if you take your time and have a good dot pistol and VK to tick down your enemies PVE while your FD. Slicing comes in handy in most high end dungeons too.

You get a wide range of damage types, good defence, self healinganda non combat skill (Slicing).

Your mind pool attack is not great and its kinetic based but you CAN attack mind so all and all its a good template and fun to play.

How can you slice specific missions like the rancor mission you are describing?

I though you had to slice the terminals then perform one search to find your "sliced missions"

Thanks for the tips,

I'm just slicing the terminal and then refreshing thepage in the hope that rancor missions show up. If they don't, I simply wait 2 minutes and slice again, although I tend to try to manage my time rather than standing in front of a mission terminal all day.

I always get in a large solo group so I can slice wherever I go, so there's always rich pickings off the terminals. If I get a crummy slice I'll just slice, meditate, shop or whatever to pass the time just like when I used to slice terms when I grinded smuggler. Killing a lair of ER's is a lot easier than finding 2 missions in the same direction so I tend to slice mokks/jantas incities with improved job markets these days for 45k a go

i dropped the slicing tree in smuggler to get novice medic, and i found that it madea HUGE difference in PVE, I fight until i get low on mind, and then make sure i reapply all my dot's and then feign until it regenerates. I end up being able to last MUCH longer before that happens with novice medic when camping in the DWB/farming the vette/tanking krayts, etc.

I happen to be almost undefeated in duels since may. ive lost maybe 20 duels out of about 400+++ since may and i think medic makes a huge difference, especially with so many fencers around.

here is my take, similar to the rest:

TKA is just plain awesome in PvE. I am able to solo the corvette and most everything else.

In PvP this template isn't that great. I exclusively use the TKA as the pistol skills are next to useless against experienced PvP players and groups.

Smuggler, to me , is great. I enjoy slicing and it's easy money. I also used the faction discounts and the ability to purchase faction a ton. I didn't do much with spices as my alt was a master chef, heh.

Pistoleer/DF line is ok for PvE. You can take down most mobs except for a few of the high-end things like NS Elders. I still feel (after testing both templates) that to PvP with pistols the BH pistol line is essential.

essentially, you can make a tougher template because Smuggler takes up a lot of skillpoints ... however, you can't find a more diversified perfect template:

Melee Combat with Melee Damage Mitigation 3

Ranged Combat with Ranged Damage Mitigation 3

Money making/roleplay profession that is fun

i was Triple Master untill today at noon (Then I dropped my master smug and TKM today in favour of commando...keeping underworld and DF though) and I can say the very big majority of my victims died to my pistols, not my VK

You just need some speedtapes and decent pistols (which are not cheap )

It is a VERY competitive template, save for encountering CM/DOT'ers

With triple threat I also gave many a jedi knight a good run for there money (fights often lasting over 15 minutes)...but as a lot of them smartened up, the lack of medic started to hurt more against em lol...

Do not underestimate this template....many people did and I killed em all!

In fact, on of the biggest reasons I'm taking a break from it is because it is this good Making M commando with only Pistol tech IV and DF (and pharma IV) good in PvP.....now THAT is a challenge (and I love challenges/being the underdog

I had the desparado/rogue/MP combo and got bored so I droped desparado and picked up TK, was trying to master smuggler and then realized that without the Desparado speed the underworld tree of pistol xp was going to be the most excruciating experience of my life because at this point I can't even stand to look at a pistol much less shoot one since picking up TK. So I have now dropped all pistol skills except feign death which I will drop soon.

As Geevo said, you can't beat it for the diversity it allows. I've had a lot of fun with this template and while I may not make the best PvPer, I can take care of myself in PvE quite well, slice for my friends or a pretty penny and of course, use my charm and good looks to the best of my abilities (which come the legendary smuggler revamp will no doubt take place in actual game mechanics ) to get ahead in the galaxy.
