Just Master Pistoleer. Not dabbling in anything else. Does it hold it's own in PvE? What are the ups/downs?

it depends what you characterize by "good"

in all honesty, the lines of fucntionality in pve have been blurred so much by buffs and armor, as any elite-novice can solo just about anything in the game

in all honesty, aside from our broken specials, i think pistoleers are about as powered as most professions SHOULD be..... so after the combat balance, we'll be of the very few professions who will get BETTER, while many will be toned down a bit, so it all depends on how you look at it

I see. I've done pistoleer before. But it was always with BH pistols. But I want to be a TKM (for roleplaying) and a Pistoleer (because I love pistols =)

its decent, not great, but fan shot works ok for pve.

As long as you don't encounter creatures with medium/heavy armor, pistoleer is quite good. Especially with fanshot.

Umm NO its not. I don't care what anyone says. Pistoleer alone with no dabbling in ANY other combat profession is terrible in both PvE and PvP. I was master ranger and master pistoleer, and I had a lot of good personal tactics, and my ranger skills. I still was seriously out classed and out balanced compared to other single-no-dabble combat professions. Pistoleer is fun, but it's like ranger, more of a feeling or lifestyle then actual functionality.

Read someones comment about being buffed and armor. Makes no difference for Pistoleers. I know from experience. You can't solo anything, purely because you can't do enough damage to it to kill it before it kills you. Again, I was master ranger, master pistoleer and some medic. So I could use Stim B too, and paid for good ones. I still couldn't solo anything.

A lot of ppl come in here saying pistols are great and they rock. then you ask them what they use and they say things like last ditch, eyeshot, torsoshot, and other non-pistoleer specials.

Well, depends on what you solo .... nightsisters can be a pain ,as well as things with medium armor.. but apart that . as master pistoleer i could well.. solo almost anything... even before I went the BH route.... that in fact, in pve terms , only gives me te freedom to use other things apart pistol speed AA's. 90% of the time i'm using 2 pistoleer specials, stopping shot and fan shot...

The problem with Master pistoleer only is you have attachments needed to cap your speed or you're going to have problems.

i'm just a master pistoleer/master BE

the only specials i use are pmd1, hs2, and fanshot..... i KNOW what i'm talking about
recently i tried out the character builders on tc2 and i made a character with:

bh pistols IV, m. pistols, tka master meditation, novice commando and i pwned anything that came my way
my point was that pistoleers, aside from some lacking defenses and some serious lack of decent specials, work pretty much how a single person, no matter what profession, SHOULD work in the wild..... ie. a red-con would totally pummel you into the ground, and you really would have a tough time fighting a yellow-con

Umm... Master Pistoleer / Master Doctor here... let's just say I rely on healing a lot.

I reckon Pistoleer is pretty good in PvE, the defenses are useful and if you're worried about damage output then get hold of a Krayted, yellow barelledDE-10.

I do stack health poisons on Mobs to help with the damage though, but even without those, the ability to switch to different damage types is handy... Heat, Stun, Acid (AP1), Energy (AP1) (we'll ignore kinetic I think as strikers aren't much cop).

The only problem is lack of speed which means you need tapes etc...
