The majority of police forces and all US military trains with a pistol at max range of 25 feet. 35 meters is 105 feet much further than 25 feet. It sucks for us yes, but is kinda realistic. I just hope that when I run up into a riflemans face he cant shoot me. We will see though.

It's one thing for a pistol to only be effective (or accurate) at a small range like 35m (or at 25 feet for that matter), but quite another matter for a pistol to not even be useable at more than 35m (especially if you're prone). I've fired real pistols from a much greater range than that (while standing) and been able to hit my target without much difficulty (maybe not a bullseye), and I'm far from a Master Pistoleer in real life. Even our primitive bullets can travel a hell of a lot farther than 35m and still be lethal, but we are talking about sophisticated beams of focused energy that travel at the speed of light. Realistically, the energy bolts should keep travelling indefinitely until they hitsomething toabsorb the energy (though their intensity per unit area would decrease following the inverse square priniciple).

I know this is a game and you have to cut it off somewhere--rifles should be able to fire farther than pistols--but 35m seems awfully close to me. It seems more intuitive to me to decrease the accuracy of our pistols at long range than toreduce their maximum range. I'm willing to try it out in the CU though before I pass further judgment though.

I agree that they should have just lowered the accuracy at further distance but I, like you, am willing to give it a try first. Lets just hope for the best and hope we can get in close enough to kill them all

Yeah, i'm kinda irritated at the whole 35m range, but if you check the ranges on the weapons, they're all similar, if not the same, so i'm hoping this will be a temporary thing and change from weapon to weapon. Although, I would really prefer it if we had the accuracy modifiers back.

As for the whole lasers travelling forever, if you really wanna get technical, in the Starwars universe lasers NEVER travel forever, they travel a set distance and then explode (this always puzzled me). Maybe the Devs are trying to get lasers to be more like in the movies. Who knows right now.

Hehe, yeah, that's always been one of my pet peeves in many sci-fi movies--it's as if the energy bolt actually accumulates more and more energy as it travels until it finally explodes. Of course, if they really wanted to be scientifically accurate, the shots they fire in space would be completely silent--but that would make for one boring movie, aesthetically speaking.

melee range has been reduced as well. anyway is your movement penalized from using a pistol? i know it is for carbines and rifles but i didnt notice it for pistols. with that said, if you arent slowed while using a pistol, running and gunning down a melee person whose max range is a mere eight meters is highly unfair in a 64m range max range world. so i think the reduction may be for balance and not for realism.

Bugger

So pistols are ranged Capped at 35m ? is that all pistols?

I suppose considering the Max range in game is 64m Pistols aren't doing to bad being range capped at 35m

Considering some real life rifle's are effective to 2270m

If the game rules where to apply in real life you would have a pistol that would be effective to 1241m and the ability toMelee someone 212m away.

But hey it's only a game.

Hehe, yeah, add that to the list of things in SWG that are ridiculously improbable (like most creatures being nearly able to keep up with a swoop at full throttle. I too am really hoping that changes as they tweak the CU, or that it will only apply to certain pistols at the very least.

I mean, thank god we are not playing some kind of si-fi/fantasy game but one totally based on reality.

Seeing the energy bolt fly is real realistic lol. The range is kinda anoying and i sure hope we wont have to chase npcs all over a planet just to kill them because they keep running out of our range. But o well i guess its nothing a well aimed stopping shot cant handle .

Why on earth are they making a guns max range 35m? I would totally understand that if 35m was the maximum effective range and anything beyond that was very random, but to completely cut us off at 35m. I am very disappointed in this one...I mean I can throw a football that far and your gonna tell me that a gun cannot shoot any further than that...Make an accuracy modifier instead of removing the range...
