i was told many great things about fan shot.

but since it tends to want to chew through all 3 pools to kill something it doubles the time it takes to kill say .......a picket.

which.....makes it not so hot IMO.

a spam of healthshot2 with a few pistolwhips kills much faster

just my two cents

any random ham attack usually hits the health pool 1/2 of the time. fanshot is pretty fast and powerful, and the AOE makes it great against multiple easy enemies or a few harder enemies. so the DPS for fanshot on the health pool is often higher than any bodyshot.

also, you know, its not required that you attack the health pool exclusively. fanshot gives you the freedom to kill things with low action more easily.

it took me awhile to figure out how to use it effectively, but its a great shot.

It hits multiple targets, although i'd prefer it doing what it's supposed to do, sigh.

If Fan Shot hits multiple targets, what's the point of getting Multi-Target Shot?

Good point. Fan shot is a small radius area attack while Multi shot is 360 degree coverage up to 65 meters away.

I had this opinion about Fan Shotuntil I mastered Pistoleer. When you Master Pistoleer, against multiple mobs it owns. Even against single its good, dangerous though since you can agro anything in range by accident. The speed at master+20 will make you quick with your shots. You will find out real quick youdont even need healthshot or pistolwhip anymore. I do vort hunter lairs solo in5 mins

If you just want to kill a single target with a powerful special, get the rouge line in Smuggler as well as Master Pistoleer. Last Ditch rules, even though its random. Do the ranged k/d with panic shot (freezes them for 10 secs on the ground lol), usually the mob stays k/d for 5-10 seconds. All that time I'm spamming Last Ditch which gives me over 2k in damage since its on the floor. I can kill Vort Hunters without even being hit once with this method.

I love fan shot-- when the situation is right. True, it targets multiple HAMS, but health often gets hit, and this shot is really fast... So I use it often.

If I am going to engage a high HAM target, I always line up my shot so I don't hit other lairs or creatures. I will /prone and /maskscent (soooo glad I began working on getting my Scout back!) and then begin fanning. I can get 4-6 shots in easy with the speed from Stances III before the creature even begins to close in. Once the battle starts coming toward me,I assess the situation. If they come within range, it's PMD1 and a couple quick fanshots. If their health is dinged up enough, I will work the BS3. If multiple targets aggro, there is the patented Pistoleer "Run like mad and fan".

If you're going to engage multiple targets, obviously fan is the way to go... But again, you need to line up the shot to make sure something bad does not happen. I was on Endor hunting with some friends this weekend, and I was happy that I trained myself on the situations when to use fan vs. stopping shot. In a few cases, fanshot would have proved fatal to me, and probably some of my hunting buddies ifI wasn't watching my backstop.

It's a great shot that requires abit of experience to use effectively.

360 degree coverage up to 65m away? That seems like it would be a whole hell of a lot more dangerous than it is useful. Unless, I guess employed in the right situation. But anyway, thanks for the knowledge.

I know that multi shot has been broken for the longest time but now it seems to work on a case by case basis. It seems as though it works when I do a faction mission to kill some stormies and there is a structure present (little npc mission base). When I have used multi shot near the base I shoot all of the stormies and the base for an average of 3k dmg per target. It is not as fast as fan shot but it is pretty close from what I remember. Why I quit using it was because having the kreetles to my right and the dewbacks on my left and the squills behind me all aggroing me I suddenly lost interest in this tactic. If there are no cons on the radar except only my mission objective then it is a decent attack if it works properly. I have only used it for one day and stuck with fan shot ever sinse instead, so my testing is not vary thorough.
