Thread: Pistoleers are weak.

Greetings all,

When I started SWG I decided that I was going to make a Pistoleer/ Ranger but since working with this profession, after four months of hard work getting to the rank of 4143, I can not wait to dump this profession. As much as I love the idea of being a pistoleer and want to keep it, it seems to that we are the weakest profession in the galaxies. I have drawn my sliced pistols only to get one shot off, before getting slamed by five or more shots from npc's and PC's alike. My weak up to 1800dmg fan shot does not compare to the damage of these rifles hitting me at point blank. Where the hell is the Point Blank Dodge when I need it most. So unless I can figure a way to make a great pistoleer, and I do not see that happening, I will be dumping it after Mastering. Good luck to all of you. I do hope the gurus resolve this weak profession so that I can one day return to it.

mm well i dont know about your specific case but there are alot of things i can kil solo at master. I mean granted i have smuggler and commando as well but only useing a pistol, and useing my kd as a first attack i can take just about anything shy of a buffed up rifleman. Give it a try at master. Also dont forget to move as you shoot. We have an advantage there for a reason so use it, Just my 2 credits.

Depending on how you are using Pistoleer. i am a Bh/Pistoleer combo. But, I am only running the pistols tree in Bh and Mastering Pistoleer. The attack bonuses are massive and fast. Besides, as a Bh, I get to use a Scatter pistol, sliced. Massive damage and my speed and accuracy is just climbing throught the roof. Master Pistoleer by itself, although not the best, is certainly not a cruddy profession. the defensive bonuese are nice too. Try running the pistols tree of Bh, Zi think you will be pleasently surprised the difference.

True, pistoleers are weak. The weakest of the three elite marksman professions actually. However, due to the fact that we can stack with either smuggler or BH, people could care less how weak the core profession is. I've set out to become a master pistoleer and, no matter how much we suck, I'm gonna stick with it and not give up my other dream profession (CM) to dabble just so I can be uber. Just hang in there. Good times are coming.

Thank you for the great replies, perhaps I will add a bit by trying the BH tree in addition to Master Pistoleer. It is my dream character to be a pistoleer, and a damn good one too. Your suggestions are very inspiring. Thanks,

Another option would be to go pistoleer/smuggler. The addition of the smuggler specials help alot. Ranged KD amd LD makes for a nice combination. But its too slow without pistoleer. Then again the BH skills (eyeshot...need I say more) and a good scatter also make up a deadly combination.

I have been having a great time as a Pistoleer and made Master about a month ago and if I am smart I can take down most things I fight in PvE.

just go master pistoleer/smuggler 0/0/4/0 and you will think different! Get a good gun cause if you dont have one you will blow in pvp and know when to use what weapon at what time

Everyone just basically reinforced the title of this thread. Pistoleers are weak, and you really should get BH pistols or Dirty Fighting to be effective. Don't see rifles having to go get BH or something to get better with rifles (though you do see carbineers doing the BH carbine line.) Assuming you have MP and MM you still have to spend another 77 points to even get to spend the 20 points to get BH Pistols IV, if you don't, then it's another 34 points to get MM assuming you have Ranged Support IV already. Or you can spend 29 points to be able to spend the 20 points to get DF IV. Given the extra skill points needed to be spent, I think the title of this thread has a little bit of the truth to it in comparison to other combat professions.

What's wrong with the pistoleers on other servers?

I've been holo grinding for the past few months, and the only profession I haven't had to give up (yet) is master pistoleer, because of how good it is, or apperantly, how good I am at it . If yuo know what specials to use when, and what weapons to use against what opponents, you can definately hold your own with just pistoleer, hands down. Getting dirty fighting helps of course, but any REAL pistoleer doesn't need that to hold their own in PvP.
