Thread: What is our 5th Top Issue? What I have so far.

Issue 5

(My view)

Pistols, Pistols, Pistols

Basically it is my view that we have been given very short shrift on our weapons for the following reasons:

1) Lack of AP weapons in general

2) There are realistically only 3 viable pistols: FWG 5, Republic Blaster and the post patch DX2

3) I would include the Crafted GEO pistol in the above if it wasn't the rarest/most expensiveitem in the game

4) Both of our Stun weapons are short range and feature no AP effect - compare this to the Rifleman's Ion rifle

5) Pistols seem to be at their best within the extended range of the melee classes - putting us at a ridiculous disadvantage against melee classes


(Off topic bit)

As a side note I think there are major problems with the weapon/armor 'system' in the game overall - there should be a scalability of waepons and armorthat means an SR Combat pistol created by a master weaponsmith should be a weapon to be reckoned with - Likewise, Mabari crafted by a master armosmith should be a desireable alternative toubese or comp.If this were the case there would bea greater range of weapons and armour available to all professions. I'd also like to see armorsmiths and weaponsmiths gaining more ability to tailor their products to avoid the current generic feel of their wares.

i would like to see holsters


aside from that, i cannot honestly think of a fifth issue... with those four issues, all that would make pistoleers better would be dual wield and holsters, which is really just fluff, not bugs that needs to be worked out

tbh if we can get 1, 4 and 3 fixed i don't think we need a number 5


but if we are going all out on this one, give the pistoleers want they want, 5: duel wielding and/or hostlers

x) our pointblank and mid range accuracy , more importantly accuracy while moving needs to be much better ( its sufficient for pve but not forpvp at the moment )

a small point i would like to make is that issue number 1) broken specials , 2) low dps , 4) no interesting attacks . are all pretty much the same thing . a usefull special move is one that has decent damage per second or gives us a strategic advantage ( i..e points 2 and 4 from our top 5 list )

________________ = Speed! fix the way it works in the game and make pistoleer the fastest ranged profession (and not just by a few points, but actually a noticable difference in style and gameplay!)


Stupid posting before I'm finished, anyway - speed is fundemental to our class. Accuracey is important, but speed is undeniabley more so. It could possibley be rolled into the DPS issue to allow for accuracey, but the way speed works and the fact that other ranged professions are faster than us is ludicrous!

I can understand not giving us incredibly powerful weapons in the form of pistols when we're speaking relative to a rifle. Relatively a rifle has much more potential for damage than a handgun (I've yet to see a sidearm do anywhere near the damage of say... a slug fired from a .30/06. not in a single blast) But leaving rifles with the speed of a semi-automatic sidearm and leaving pistols with the speed of a bolt action .22 rifle is ridiculous.


I'm not expecting to be the dominating force to end all combat; I'm a pistoleer; leave that to the commandos. I do expect to at least keep up.


Let's say we were to take a real olympic biathlon rifleman to a shooting range, accompanied by an olympic pistols target marksman. It's very likely the rifleman will, on average, hit targets more accurately farther away, as that's what a rifle is engineered for. BUT, but... Let's for the sake of argument, take them with their weapons of choice to the carnival. We'll walk them over to that tent with the really annoying barker standing in front of a little shooting gallery with moving ducks and plates and bottles and what have you.

Who are you betting on to destroy the most things in the smallest amount of time?

It's understandable the weapons we have don't do nearly as much damage as the top end of the rifles or whatnot. It is completely unacceptable that this game is leaving rifles firing at the relative speed of semi-automatic handguns, to pistols firing like bolt action .22 rifles.


We're not the end all combat class you send in to settle any feud, that's what a commando is for. But we are definitely not fumbling retards.


If we were to take an olympic biathlon athlete, and an olympic pistols target marksman to a shooting range and have them compete, yes, the rifleman would definitely outshoot the pistoleer in terms of accuracy over large distances. However, take these same two athletes to the carnival with their same weapons and drag them to that tent with the annoying barker out front daring you to try and shoot the ducks and plates and bottles and other random things you'd never normally put on a conveyor belt and shoot at.

Who is going to hit the most things in the least amount of time? I can promise you the biathlete is not walking away with the giant stuffed lion.

Each post has an 'Options' drop down list in the top right hand corner. Click that and choose edit.


And I agree, speed should be the issue! low damage (is what I count us at the moment, so not saying our pistols should be nerfed, far from it) with very fast output.

Please stick to this format. If an essay is included, I fully expect the above format to be somewhere in the post. You may notice that I am trying to combine the old "We aren't fast enough" and "The way speed works is screwed up" issues so we can squeeze in an extraone here. I'm mainly considering 2 options. Either "The way speed works is screwed up" or "Our accuracy is inadequate in PvP." If you wanted to suggest either or even something else, here is your chance. You are also welcome to put forth other issues that have been nagging at you, as this time around Thunderheart is giving us a "this is an issue, but not a Top 5 Issue" option to add onto the list.


The wording isn't finalized. There are going to be more lengthly descriptions for each item on the list.

X is the nature of the speed equation. We get shafted the worst on the speed cap ( fencers my come in a close second) but if the idea is that we are to trade damage for speed I'd like to see some of that speed.
