Thread: What is our 5th Top Issue? What I have so far.
1,X,2,4,3.
And for X, I think SPEED is the biggie. We need to have serious advantages to speed.
Here is an alternateproposal for speed I haven't ever seen anybody mention:
I suggest that not only should the speed caps be raised for all other weapons (leaving pistols at 1 second), but that switching weapons should take longer for larger weapons. Hotkeying rifles or rocket launchers to instantly equip is kind of silly, when you think about it. Put a timer on switching weapons. Pistols should switch almost immediately, with perhaps a 0.5-1.0 second delay, but all other weapons should take a while to equip - maybe 5-10 seconds for a rifle, and 10+ seconds for something like an LLC or rocket launcher. Our advantage should not just be speed at shooting, but speed at changing damage types in an emergency.

X = Speed, I agree with those who think that we get shafted when it comes to speed. No cap on our speed might be too much, though. Spamming Fan Shot at the same rate that you fire normal shots would be uber. Maybe a .5 sec minimum instead of 1 sec. That would probably be better than us not having a cap or nerfing all the other classes' caps, even though that would actually be the most fair thing to do. I don't believe rifleman should hit the 1 sec cap and shoot just as fast as pistols when they're supposed to be slow and powerful while we're fast and weak-er. They end up with a better dps than us when it should be equal. I don't really want to cry nerf for them, though.
At this point, the best and only thing to really do is cap the speeds of other professions. Pistols should ALWAYS fire faster than rifles or carbines, for example, and melee weapons should have a similar distribution of caps.
Doing so would probably mean that all State Effects would have to be readjusted to have a lower % chance of working with pistols up to a higher % chance of working with rifles.
Consider this hypothetical example:
Imagine Ihave a Blind shot for rifles and another Blind shot for pistols. Imagine rifles have a 7-second cap for firing. Imagine that pistols have a 1-second cap for firing. That means that if I use a pistol, I have 7 chances to get a Blind effect to stick in the same time that a rifle gets one opportunity to stick a Blind shot. That's not very fair if the chance of landing the Blind is equal.
So imagine that to make up for that, the rifle's Blind shot had a much higher chance of inducing a Blind state, while the Pistol shot had a lower chance. Imagine that the Blind shot had, say, a 70% of inducing Blindness, but a pistol only had a 10% chance. Pistoleers would have several fast opportunities to stick a Blind effect, but would have a lower chance of it sticking, while one slow shot from a rifle would have a very high chance of sticking the Blind effect.
Something like that might be a lot more balanced, and not make Pistoleers the de facto State Effect Spammers of SWG - something that would guarantee that we'd be nerfed in some other way, probabyl damage.
DPS=Damage Per Second
which means speed, so this issue is on our top 5.

No, it's not. DPS can be changed by increasing either the damage we do, or the speed at whichwe do it.
What we're asking for is a comprehensive change to the way speed works in the game and asking it to be changed for other professions too. Big big difference.

the way speed works in the game is already being fixed in the upcoming combat balance
...allegedly.
There was also allegedly a Droid Engineer revamp. And I saw a Dev-written revamp document for Rangers and Squad Leaders back in Fall 2003.
So it's worth it to hold the Devs' feet to the fire on big issues like this.
i agree but at the end of the day we want to end up with as high a damage per second as possible . since the upcoming combat balance will penalize us for using specials by reducing our ham bar (i.e. unhealable damage ) i would much rather fire at the same speed we do now except more powerful shots so that our damage per second increases.
