I'm a Master Pistoleer, BH3040, Fencer 4000 and mainly use a decent Geoblaster (170-350 with slice/po) and a nice Scatter Pistol (160-345 with small tissue, slice/po). I'm thinking about trying Novice Commando to get certification for Launcher Pistol but is it worth it? How good do Launcher Pistols come, what kind of stats do they have? Is splash damage of any use?

Frankly, ive never utilised one since my template doesnt allow the liberty of nov commando. But i will relate to you what ive heard.
Launcher pistols do blast damage, and are apparently highly effective against lairs and turrets. Ive heard of little success with it in PvP and on mobs, and people apparently utilise it for mostly the aforementioned purposes. There have been a few pistol specialists (BH pistols, smuggler DF, M pistoleer, nov commando template) who report catching their opponents off guard with a weapon that does blast and pounding on their mind until incap (namely the launcher pistol).
Nevertheless, perhaps someone else here whos actually used one can tell us more.

Oh, and incidentally, the launcher pistol is said to cause quite a bit of lag.
(Possibly how people who use it in PvP win. Hyuk!)

It causes a bit of lag if there's a few in your group using it but the smoke and explosions make you blind to whats going on around you
I have novice commando just for the cert and it is nice blast damage for AT-STs. I've used it on just about everything and in PvP but I mainly use it against turrets and as I said, AT-STs

Ditto, I use it against turrets (not atsts as I'm an imp). I have used it in PvP but there is really no reason or advantage to doing so, stick with the scatter and Geo for PvP.

Cauil, you say in your sig for Hauke you are 1040 in Smuggler. Do you have this, like me for base takedown and have you also got enough xp to easily swap to take the role for the BH (inv1) and Commando (hws1) for base takedowns?
Just curious as I've got the same template and swap my spare skill points to whatever is needed for the team to take down the base.

For a base take down Smuggler would need to be 0/1/4/0, I have the first box in underworld for the reduction to faction costs.
Switching like you suggested is actually something I never even thought of, its a great idea. It would not take much for me to max out on those various boxes. Slicing and investigation xp would be the hard ones, but very doable.
Thanks for the tip.

Thanks guys!
Since I'm mostly into jedihunting and normal PvP I guess I stick with what I've got or try a little smuggling instead.

all depends.. if ur imperial dont bother with it... unless u wanna go hunt some nite sisters... but if ur rebel then they r good for at-sts and stuff.

I use a launcher myself but not against Players. Ive found that the geo is your best PvP gun on the market. The launcher however in the hands of a Master Pistoleer/BHP 4 template spells doom for AT-ST's and turrets. I have personaly destroyed a small tower turret in under a minute with mine and many many AT-ST's in just over a minute. Its usfulness besides that is limited. So if you know your going up against a large Imperial base i suggest you take one with you.

Are any other guns than Launcher Pistols effective against AT-STs? While PvP'ing a couple of weeks ago my opponent called his AT-ST and I had a very hard time although my krayt scatter is really nice.
I usually leave ATSTs and turrets to other people and concentrate on spamming EyeShots but it would be nice to find an alternative to LP anyway.

Hmm not sure what else was effective againt AT-ST's. It might have been Acid or Electric. I'll go and kill a few and let you know.
