Thread: Pistoleers need mind pool shots
I see why too, but it all depends on what they do with this new set of "HAM's" with regards to the secondary stats. It will be interesting to see how this planned revamp interacts with Doctor's buffs as well. No matter what else they have planned though,I don't see how they are going to be able to bring balance without a composite nerf.

Mind damage was never supposed to be the determining factor in PvP (boy, did that not pan out like the devs expected). After the HAM Revamp (probably released at the same time as the Combat Balance in Publish 10), mind damage will be healable just like any other damage. You won't be able to endlessly chain stims, however.
We'll have to wait for exactly what it will look like, but the general idea is that there will be a 3rd kind of damage from special costs (including heals) that is unhealable, but regenerates very quickly. It's still being worked out, and we'll have an opportunity to comment on it after we get to test it on Test Center.
Personally, I think this makes Action the new favorite targeted pool...
I don't know what is in store for doc buffs. I could see how there would be a balance issue if Buffed Guy A could spam specials for 0 HAM and Unbuffed Guy B couldn't even heal his special costs. That's not just a defense issue, that's an offense issue.
One could argue that the difference between the two playersis already too great, and disproportionate to the investment.
Buffs are also responsible for the explosion in Composite Armor that we are seeing. Without 2,700 in the secondary stats for 3 hours, nobody would be wearing high end comp. That also contributes to another key PvP issue: stun damage. If the norm for composite was 40-50% (to make it wearable), a well made stun layer would offer close to the same protection.
It really all comes back to doctor buffs. Even the importance of Mind damage, to an extent (because the Health and Action bars are so beefy).
Just some thoughts of mine.. certainly nothing I'm campaigning about. I assume it is going to be looked at in the upcoming revamps, but I don't know how or if something is going to be done.

Hopefully at the same time they'll modify the doctor buffs to act more like entertainer buffs. Thus reducing their maximum and balancing the 'power' of the different portions better. Thus making the targetting of a pool the deciding factor rather than targetting mind. i.e. us targetting health isn't such a problem.
Personally I would prefer modifying entertainer buffs more like doc buffs, this will actually make more people look for dancers and musicians, this way, even non master buffs become interesting for people, giving novice musicians and dancers a chance to make some money too.

Because it may or may not be a seperate bar at all, Waste93. It could be a 3rd kind of damage on the same HAM bars - a sort of very temporary wounding. I'd like to emphasize that the reason it isn't being talked about is because it isn't finalized - even the mighty Thunderheart doesn't know the details.
"It was my understanding that there would be a second set of HAM bars that your specials ran off of. When you used specials it drained from these "special" pools. This is so you don't injure yourself while firing as everyone currently does. But these "special" pools also weren't healed. They were on a timer of somewhere around 25 seconds. So if the "special" bar was 1000 units and you used a 100 cost special, you would get off ten shots before it was empty. It would take 25 seconds for those 100 points to recharge. So in this case you get off 10 shots then only be able to auto attack until 25 seconds from that first shot."
I don't know where you heard that, but it's a very good idea and I hope that's what the Combat Balance is going to look like. I'd love to see any system where specials don't actually harm you. Just look at other MMORPGs, there's your health, then your skill points or stamina or mana or whatever, you spend those until your out and take damage in health. I foresee that theCB will make the Mind pool a sort of "special" pool that isn't targetable or healable but can be buffed by entertainers, while Action and Health will remain, with the cost pools removed, and only the pool itself and the regen couldbe buffed by doctors.
As for the issue of Pistoleers getting a mind shot, that's ridiculous. As it is, EVERYONE needs a mind shot. It's awfully narrowminded to say, Pistoleers need a mind shot, but forget about Fencer, Pikeman, Carbiner, Commando, and smuggler.

I think I got that idea from back in Jan when they were testing the new HAM system on TC for a bit. A new HAM system was tested there for a couple weeks but pulled out since they said it made combat to easy. But that also doesn't mean that they couldn't have changed it to be more like was mentioned here earlier. We just need more info.

No. If everyone needs a mind shot. Then shouldn't everyone else also get a health and action attack? I may be wrong, but I know some melees do have mind attacks, I think they are Fencer and Pikeman. Could be wrong about that though.

I wasa Pistoleer/CM and I would throw two things before the battle started, mind disease of course, but also an area action disease, people couldn't spam their special attacks, and the battle actually lasted longer
As a Master Doc / Master Pistoleer I must saythat my doc skills are often useless in pvp. There's many riflemen around and I seem lucky enough to always get into a fight with them...
So I finally decided to switch to the dark side and go BH 3040 with Master Pistoleer. It can't be worse since anyway it seems my mind is the favorite target around so to lose the abilty to heal myself for over 1k ain't too bad... I could always wait for the combat balance but I've been waiting long enough. Time to move on!
