Thread: Geo Pistol Over-rated? And Other PVP Gripes

Last night was one of the first times I've had a chance to PVP and I used my shiney, new Geonosian blaster. It's got average stats. 2.0 speed, 120-something minimum, 220-something maximum (speed sliced), and no power-up. I was running around the starport waiting for buffs and overt flag to clear when I happen accross a bounty hunter working for the rebel scum and we thrown down.

The fight is going pretty evenly. I had taken some Defense vs. Knockdown food before he attacked so his dizzy didn't have any effect the one time he managed to knock me down. At the end, he just barely killed me by spamming Eyeshot. It was a good fight and we told each other so afterwards. So, I'm not whining about losing the fight.

What I'm irritate about is the fact that the Geo pistol has no armor piercing. For some reason I thought it did. But seeing Stopping Shot hit for less than 100 in most cases made me look again. If I'd used my DX2 (sliced, but nothing special), I'm pretty sure I'd have won.

The bottom line is I'm getting tired of people who think that having a "large variety of weapons to choose from" makes us balanced. Of that "large variety" only two or three are worth anything in PvP and one questionable one that is seen as godlike with an appropriate cost ends up being worthless to me.

That doesn't even get into the fact that I had at least four state effects on me the entire fight and I was lucky to get one to stick from the Smuggler line (stun from Last Ditch) and a bleed (which is useless against a buffed opponent).

If his armor has a vulnerability to stun, does the AP even matter? Maybe he had a stun chest piece.

The geno's have no AP. Therefore if your adversary had a good set of composite armor (AP1) and a decent stun layer and a shield gen then yes the Geno would have problems inflicting the kind of highly touted damage we were expecting. Much of the combat design in place now does NOT take into account the level of defense that composite armor can / would give. Couple this with the fact that we only have two weapons that provide any AP ( DX2, Republic blaster ) of which both are generally dealt with by composite armor which can have base / special protections which reach as high as the upper 80%, low dps, and broken specials, we are fairly ineffective in pvp as of this date.

The only way I've gotten good effect out of a Geo pistol is in combining Pistoleer with BH pistols, using Eyeshot ALOT

IMO stopping shot is a PVE shot and i use it frequently, in PVP i switch to Eyeshot cause of the mind damage, ive only used stopping shot in PVP against unarmoured and unbuffed targets.

If the armor has a stun layer then the AP0 weapon takes the standard AP1 armor reduction, but if it is vulnerable to stun then the armor is not considered to be light armor in that circumstance (in easier terms it is like the person is wearing no armor at all) . My guess is that you are right... he was prob wearing a stun chest piece... or had ranged mitigation 3 and on synthsteak... or a combination of the two

why use stopping shot pvp? because most only use a stun helmet.....600 damage to the chest pvp is more than enough to kill something fast, and 60 damage to the mind is not good for anything.

I always use the combat que tab - I then see what is going through and not going through - changing weapons for the best effect.

Stun damage is sort of overcome by the AR1 of player armor, which cuts the damage of our Geo(AP0) in half in and of itself. If he had a 35% stun layer, your Geo's damage would have been reduced by 67.5% overall.

For comparison, the Jawa Ion (AP1) would be reduced by 35% in the same scenario. Andif there isn't a Stun layer, the Jawa deals 100% damage, and we still deal 50%.

If you tried the DX2 (AP1) and he had 60% comp (AR1), your damage would have been reduced by 60%. So which is better is pretty much situational... does he have a Stun Layer? A PSG? Does he have really high resists to Acid/Energy (our AP1 pistol damage types)?

actually without a stun lair the full amount of damage goes through...not 50%

I'd like to add a question to this. The difference between Special Protection and Effectiveness is what?

My impression is that if it's a Special Protection than if the weapon has AP that is completely stopped? So if someone is using a Jawa rifle, and you have stun special protection (as opposed to effectiveness), then the AP1 doesn't happen to counter the armor AR1?
