Thread: Only downside to the Republic Blaster

I rushed out and bought one too, and I've currently used it in PvE and PvP combat. Overall, it's definately a very good pistol, and a nice replacement for the DX2. I have only one complaint about Republic Blasters though, and that is that they are somewhat slow. Mine was 66 - 206 Damage, 2.6 Speed before slice (I got a 29% damage slice). A very nice weapon, to be sure, but the speed leaves a little to be desired. Unless you are a Pistoleer/Bounty Hunter dabbler, you're not going to have the speed necessary to make using high end Pistoleer specials like Stopping Shot worthwhile with this pistol. That's not a complaint, simply an observation. Using Stopping Shot, Fan Shot, or Body Shot 3, I'm still better off with my Pre-Nerf FWG5's.

In a game in which the ability to spam high damage specials faster than the other guy is literally the difference between life and death, I must say that the jury may still be out on whether non-krayt enhanced Republic Blasters are viable PvP weapons.

yeah i immediately thought turkey baster. but then it's cool killing people with kitchen utensils. i don't like the speed either, i've switched to using fanshot more than stopping shot or last ditch even if i'm just shooting at one person. i think the AP1, damage, accuracy and cool sound makes up for the speed. plus i got sick of seeing everyone carrying a fwg5.

Just got mine, I love it Ya it looks like a "raygun" but with the accuracy on it no one will ever get close enought to see that

Well I haven't had the chance to use one of these things but the fact that it's energy damage makes it a total POS in my mind. 95% of all the mobs in the game have some level of energy resist which will make all your attacks with the republic blaster pathetic. Now like i said I haven't tried it out but I cant see it being better than a DX2 most of the time. Regardless of base damage/accuracy, if the mob is acid or heat vulnerable I just can't believe therepublic blaster would beat a DX2 or an fwg5.

That's like saying "if a mob were acid or heat vulnerable I can't believe a scout blaster would beat.."

Come on. We're talking about a "decent" replacement to the FWG5.It has AP1. A nice plus.

Hmm, I like it too, but I've found another downside... and I think we need to take note of it. It is nice at range for doing damage, but I've found that it is absolutelyhorrible at close range. Using a pistol in melee degrades the performance of pistols, and each to differering degrees. The republic blaster seems to suffer a great deal here. If you get charged, I think you'd be a lot better off switching to another pistol. I've only been using mine for two days now, so I'm still evaluating. That's the feeling I have thus far though. If you look at the stats for it, it makes sense why it would perform poorly up close.

Anyone else have any thoughts or findings on this?

does anyone else find it odd

that they got the FWG5 nerfed down to crap status, and now come out with this weapon which is better in most respects......and ANYONE can use it?

w-t-f was the point of nerfing the FWG5 when u make soemhting better that anyone can use.

I dont think they are all that slow and a good speed slice should fix that up.

The only downer that I see is the fact that its energy which is OK but most hi level mobs have alot of energy resistance.

It's an elegant gun from a bygone age. Why do you not like its lovely appearance? It's crome, and it's fashioned with wood.

Simply marvelous.
