Thread: Pistoleer Issues Reported 8/01/03
For the BH's jumping into our forum to say jaegen is a bad guy, you should have been here several weeks ago, the first issues post by jaegen downplayed the BH vs. Pistoleer issue, he was drug over the coals for it too. His job is to report our issues. When he tried to spin that one he got blasted, cause many of us think it is a bigger issue than he does, so doing his job he reports what we feel are issues.
From a playtesting standpoint (maybe video game designer don't know this though) the simplest way to determine balance is to introduce your ruleset to the player base, if there are huge imbalances in thier choices, you can probably infer that there is a balnce issue. If 75 percent of serious PvPers are bounty hunters you can tell that bounty hunters are imbalanced for PvP. It's not scientific, and can prove slightly reactionary, but it is a good preliminary indicator. I know there would be issues the day after I started I went back and read beta tester posts and guess what?PvP wasexclusively the province of bounty hunters, non BH's had to change profession to keep up.
My real problem with the BH vs Pistoleer issue is in the mid-range, yeah master BH takes a few more xp and a lot more skillpoints than master pistoleer. I could care less what a bounty can ordoes do with his lightning rifle. For the xp that I have spent on pistoleer I could be a bounty hunter pistol spec. I would have 34 more pistol speed, a relavent special move to complement body shot 2, and more accuracy (for whatever that is worth). Instead I have +6 pistol speed, a special ability that clearly needs to be adjusted (read nerfed) and am a handful of xp away from another ability that used to be good in PVP, but tomorrow since it can no longer one shot kill, and targets a random status bar, will takes it's rightful place behind bodyshot 2. (pistol melee defense and stopping shot). Yeah three months from now I will be hitting master and you will be bored, but that doesn't really solve the issue. Heck 20 of my 49 speed comes from master a full 2.5m xp away.
Now I tried several tactics, played around with alternatives to spamming one attack, currently in PvE I am a one trick pony, overall speed of kill, fatigue after the battle PMD is the only combat option. I have tried mixing it with double tap, body shot 2, disarming shot against humanoids, all of them come out behind. I had really hoped double tap would have a good damage rate, might be double a normal attack, but so is body shot and it's targetted. Our specials need a lot of work.
Problem is they have decided the power level is in general too high, which means that for things in the mid and high end to be more powerful things in the low end will have to be weakened.I see no other way, except maybe adding lots of special effects,Pistoleer has too many special moves right now, and for the most part they all do more or less the same things. Bounty hunters only get afew (in the pistol line anyway) but they are all different and relevant.I'm will admitI am envious, you should admit you are afraid, I know I have a reason to be envious, you know you ahve a reason to be afraid.
Su1tar ,
Multi target pistol shotbug fix was on the testserverbefore we submitted issues, soit was already known. I can't test it personally since I dont have a master pistoleer over there...but we assume it will soon go live (??).

Regarding Combat XP:
If you plan on becomming a master pistoleer you need not worry about how tedious combat XP is because by the time your ready formaster you'll have made enough combat XP to to fill all 4 boxes that require this type of experience.
Obviously you never made Master Pistoleer because this comment is simply not true. I went Pistol IV, Carbine III, Rifle III and Ranged support IV before I worked on the 125k needed to become a pistoleer. By the time I maxed out all 3 pistol lines, I still needed roughly 48.5k combat exp = 485,000 additional pistol exp (100,000 wep XP = 10k combat). So, yes combat XP is a bit tedious only because it doesn't max out at the same time your other lines max out. The only people I know that didn't have this problem were those that went up the Smuggler tree (dirty fighting) and those that did BH pistol IV first (though they did need the extra 40k combat to become a BH). For someoen that is simply going Master pistoleer though, you will cap your 3 pistol weapons exp lines before combat caps (even if you spend anything in ranged support).
General1126,
