Thread: Why do I even bother???
Thanks for the support
I think I got emotional, posted the FAQ, and submitted our next issues report with everything in there within 24 hours. I hope the good out-weighed the bad ![]()
First I want to start by saying, that post was a very good post with very little whinning. Unfortunately people think if their is information, that is considered negative, in a post, the the whole thing is negative. You gave your opinion with strong facts to back it up. Okay, maybe a little whinning at the end, but no one is perfect.
I do most of my posting on the smuggler board, as I'm gunning for smuggler/pistoleer. I did the master pistoleer thing in beta, and I can honestly say that, it hasn't change all that much. I don't think pistoleer is as overpowering as everyone claims. I think (like someone mentioned before) that all the other professions need fixed, and to be brought to the point where you can compare the balance.
As a smuggler, I believe we have a decent correspondent. He doesn't throw up a post and say if you have anything you think is broke post it here and be done with it. He gets involved with the testing of what he thinks is the problem area. Then, he gives his thoughts about the problems and asks for feedback.
As a pistoleer, I believe we have the best correspondent. Not only do you get involved in the testing and ask us what we think are the problems, you are passionate about what you do. You care about what happens to the pistoleer. IMO you are more informative and more precise in your explanations than most out there. And most of all you understand what we, as a community of pistoleers, actually think.

This is what I wrote in reply to the idiocy spewing out of that developer post:
I don't understand how you hope to balance this game off of relative levels (i.e. players levels vs. creature challenge levels) when a player maxes out at 25 and creatures can go up to 250.
You say that a red con should wipe the floor with a player 95% of the time. Thats fine and I find that to be a valid assumption. However, the con system is flawed in that it is based on a highly skewed level system. A novice bounty hunter and a master bounty hunter are BOTH at player level 25. This means the SAME red con mob will be red at both novice and master. So are you telling us that a master and a novice have the same chance of killing that mob? The master doesnt improve AT ALL at killing that mob?
This is a problem in that obviously, the master should be more advanced in combat and should have a better chance of killing that same mob. How can you possibly hope to balance certain professions when the con system is obviously out of whack since a novice and a master will get the same con ratings even though the master is more advanced in combat??
Another problem with your assumptions is that you are trying to balance SINGLE Professions in a game where almost everyone is multi-classed. You are not taking into account the fact that many people will eventually be masters of 2 or 3 professions. Considering that the player level will be maxed at 25 whether you have mastered 1, 2 or 3 professions, and the same mob will con red regardless of how many skill trees you have mastered why is the fact that the person with master in 3 skill trees can solo a red con a big problem? It is obvious that the con system is flawed due to the level 25 limit that players have because it doesnt take into account that you can have skills and skill trees that complement each other across various professions and it doesnt take into account the fact that you can master several professions.
How can you achieve profession balance when virtually no one is a single profession? You cant dumb down balance into a con system since the system itself is flawed as I have pointed out.
Also, the con system doesnt take into account the quality of weapons. At master pistoleer, I use the same scout blaster that someone with advanced pistol can use because it is more effective than a dx2 I could use at novice pistoleer. Now how is it unreasonable that someone with advanced pistol could solo a red con considering that the con system ignores the quality and damage of the weapon? I mean the scout blaster is good enough for a high end player to use but it is usuable by someone with 2 boxes of pistol skill. Using a scout made by a master weaponsmith, the advanced pistol user can probably take out a red con rather easily, yet this is wrong to the development team because the con system ignores the quality of the weapon? That same advanced pistol user would probably get clobbered by the same mob if they used a scout blaster made by a novice weaponsmith.
I know this is getting a bit long so I'll get to the point, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE evaluate the con system if you are going to be balancing professions based on how well we can solo creatures of various cons. I have pointed out several of the flaws with this method and it is obvious that current "red cons" are not a good measure of balance because players max out their player level with relatively little skill ( as compared to what they are capable of if they use all their skill points) and the con system ignores the quality of a weapon when determining con.
I wish skill tapes would work =o( Been hunting NPC imperials and the only loot I've gotten out of 50+ missions was decorative headdress =o(
They nerfed loot right?
