Pistoleer Archive
Thread: Moan about how Pistoleer sucks.
You know, re-reading my posts in this thread made me realize how contradictory I have been so far.
I would honestly say maybe Pistoleer as a pure profession isn't all it's cracked up to be. There are times when I use all the specials thoough, but some don't work in certain situations.
Some work better than they should, and some don't work as advertised.
The area attacks are a perfect example. If I let off a multi-target pistol shot, and there are 3 enraged rancors in front of me, why does my pistol insist on shooting the lair, or a lair that is clearly behind me?
If I use pointblankarea1 or 2, 2 more than 1, I expect everything in front of me to take damage. Not always the case.
The disarm shots, are great for lairs, but disarmshot2 is not supposed to be an area attack. Makes no sense to me.
So, while would admit Pistoleers are broken a bit as far as specials, I rarely get hit. I also rarely get knocked down. I would like though, to have something other than stopping shot to use in PvP. I use fanshot sometimes, but if fanshot does the same damage as stoppingshot, but to multiple targets, if I only have one target, I expect it to do triple the normal damage.
Who knows. I would hate Pistoleer wihtout Smuggler, that much I can admit.
I don't see why you guys are slamming him. He's fooking right.
If you HAVN'T been a master of other profs...**edit**.
This prof is a JOKE.
Against mobs, its marginal. In PvP? LOL!!! Its so lame, you might as well just sit down and die.
WHY do I say this? Because I've been a master rifleman+master CH, and a master BH (another joke of a prof).
A pistoleer can't do squat for damage >COMPARED< to other classes.
Sure, do our fan-shot or stopping-shot for a whopping 40-90 damage (Sure, sometimes it even says 300 dmg...take off the mitigation, and armor..and u get 40-90dmg). Now, compare that to the rifleman popping your head for 200 dmg a shot...
Its a JOKE guys. The class sucks. The damage is LAME in PvE and PvP.
Sure, you can 'hit' for 1500 dmg AOE with fan shot... you know what? Strafe-2 as a Rifleman hits AOE for 4-6k damage. Thats 3-4.5x more Damage.
Whoever said dropping rancors and nightsisters as a pistoleer... BIG DEAL. As a rifleman, I'd drop SCORES of them, as many as I could stack into an area, in 5-10 hits with strafe-2 or flurry-2. Try that as a pistoleer. Oh, and I didn't even need to move around. /takecover... AOE for a few hits with a T21, they agro...2 more AOE's... 4k xp/mob.
This class is a joke, its damage output is a joke. Its a lame, crappy class. And sadly, I was a jack-arse to drop rifleman to try BH...then realized BH is pistol based (for the most part), dropped that to try pistoleer. BOY did I screw up.
Compare massive mind damage + ranged DB to.. uhhh... (average) 65 damage a shot in pvp.
Sure... you(we) do 'okay' in pve.. WHO CARES about PvE? This isn't about killing mobs, its about killing players (especially Jedis). This class doesn't compete or compare.
Bitter? Yes... I am. I've wasted a TON of time to learn how lame this class (and a few others) are. Want to rule? Go TKM, and get some pistol skills for the defenses and a little ranged offense.
I can't even kill a TKM anymore... DOZENS of shots do squat for damage. As a master rifleman w/T21... Target TKM, fire head shots...keep 40m+ distance (to avoid posture change), and >20m to avoid KD... kill the TKM in 10 shots. Try killing a TKM as a pistoleer...
LAME LAME LAME PvP damage.
The biggest mistakes most novice gunfighters make is to run straight up the Techniques tree for the specials, and they don't sprinkle in a bit of the Grips & Marksmanship trees along the way toi improve aim and their Dodge ability. Dodge is the Gunfighter's greatest asset along the the firing while standing and firing while moving mods. If your toon is standing still during a fight then your not using the class to it's fullest potential. A gunfighter must keep on the move to survive, unless your opponent is flat on their back then pause and blast away with your most powerful specials. I personally like to run in circles around my opponents. This accomplishes 2 things hopefully, one reduces my opponent's chance to hit, second make them disorientedwhere they are in relation to me.
Okay, seriously, all the power gamers need to stop posting. Please, for the love of whatever you worship, just, be quiet. No one wants to hear the "Your profession sucks cause I powerleved CH and <insert combat class>" rhetoric from y'all. We're trying to help people who don't want to be the next uber l33t moron to play this game for three months, find something you can't master in two days, and then leave crying.
I've been a Pistoleer since, like, 3 days into the game almost. I've rarely stepped outside Techniques, not because I can't get the xp, but because I'm not using it as a primary class. Um, think about a Krayt Scatter Pistol with Stopping Shot. Pistoleer is an awesome class, even if you don't want to master it, because it's easy and it travels well. So what if the damage is kinda low without a support class? You should have one anyways! Like, the first guy said "try taking out level 20 lairs without Pixies, Muon, and heals...." Like, WHY DON'T YOU HAVE HEALS? Are your saving those points for Master Image Designer? Novice Medic anyone? And oh my god, Feign Death? If you are trying to solo things using that lame feign death crap, then there's a good chance YOU SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO SOLO IT! That or you just suck at the combo.
And if you're just mastering it because the Jedi-in-a-box told you to, then you need to just say, "Sorry" and move along.

I have invested in some comp armor now and use a republic blaster, with the faction missions now at level 21 all NPC resists are at 10% unless I want to spit at them with a tangel pistol.
I have a few questions to ask but with all the flames I have had about me not knowing how to play a comabt prffesion , should be a crafter crap I doubt I will get a straight answer. I am not a power player like most of you here, I dont expect to be uber if i did I would of been a TKA or a CH. I am not grinding it for a Holo either as I am actualy role playing out the life of a Smuggler / Pistoleer. If I was grinding it out I would of got Master CH to do it.
1) Does your stats effect how often you dodge. Therefore the heavy comp armor lowers your stats alot so will you dodge less?
2) I mainly do Faction missions these seem alot harder than your normal neutral mission. Any neutral mission level 21 and I can do it ok. A Faction mission and I struggle alot,
3) I do use Tat Sunburn and spices and always looking for new types of food that can give me a edge. So yes I do know about them.
4) Is it worth getting master marksman for the last increase to pistol stats ?
5) I have tried novice medic very early on when I played and found that it was never much use to me solo, as I could not heal myself in combat very well and would often heal for 50 and get hit at the same time for 100.
I would like to thank you all for the flames its so nice to see how many of you actualy care about me. ( sarcastic tone. )
And for the ones that have given me some ideas its been appreciated.
I read through your questions and what struck me was that you said that you tried medic but didnt find it useful. Medic is a must in my opinion, I dont know how you survive on level 20+ missions with out them. You really should have it. Dont bother making stims yourself that heal 50. Buy stim Bs from a master doctors that knows how to make them with full experimentation and get at least enough medic skill to Bs.
