Thread: Moan about how Pistoleer sucks.
I'm by no means an expert and I don't have any Smuggler skills because I'm a Master CH/Pistol ... but here's my general strategy in Pistol
First, in PvE, remember that /examine is your friend ... it really does you no good to blast away with your Republic on a creature that has 80% Energy resistance. Hotkey your Republic, FWG and DX2 and use the most effective weapon against your target.
PvE or PvP, I pretty much do the same thing -- tank the pets (yes, in PvP this is next to worthless if I'm alone), healthshot 1&2 to get the bleed going, and spam the heck outta Stopping and Bodyshot2 ... step in to inside 10mat some point and hit the target with MeleeDef1 to try to get a knockdown -- for a CH, the pets really like those free shots on a KD'd target.
I alternate Stopping & BS2 because BS2 is faster, with a lower HAM cost ... if you're not buffed you really notice the difference (although if I'm not buffed I usually gulp a Starshine and some form of mind-buffing food) when you spam specials. But at Master with a good weapon, the delay on Stopping isn't too bad and it's nice to take out those big damage chunks, whether they're focused on health or not. If you're in a group, with people taking down HAM across the board, you probably want to emphasize Stopping even more.
I imagine this game will change a lot in the next 3 months or so, as they rework the combat system, perhaps they will fix the combat classes as well.

So many broken ones, yes. Which brings us back to - is this a worthwhile class if you do not suppliment with smuggler? I agree with you on the how you play the game comment completly. Taking down lairs with pistols sucks big time - again, I think doubletap/stopping shot/fanshot are the specials to use, as they do the most damage per second in the order you get them. If you do PvE only, and group up most of the time, then pistoleer would be fine. I think more enjoyment would from from rifle or carbine just do to the variety of moves.

I was a Master Pistoleer long before I picked up Smuggler. After I dropped Ranger to enter into the GCW full time, I just thought Smuggler would be beneficial to my fellow Rebels, since Spice buffs go a long way when you are raiding bases.
Specials are good, but they aren't everything. We have better defense vs. KD than TKA. We have more defenses against state effects than any other profession.
I don't use any of the bodyshots, and I don't use the disarm shots. Taking down lairs is the same for most of the professions.Have you tried any of the other Ranged professions?
Pistoleer does not suck. I'm able to pvp with 1v3-5 odds and win most of the time; and no, i'm not on the 3-5 side. Just learn how to use the profession, being a master gunfighter i can clear out any type of HQ the opposing faction has by myself. I can raid imperial cities by myself such as bestine and theed and just about always kill everyone in the city. No, i will not tell you how to use the profession, its right in front of you on the screen. I've taught two of my guild friends how to use pistoleer and we are pretty much an unbeatable team. Good luck finding out how to use the profession, itsa blast killing 3-5 players at once.
Oh, just to make things clear, i killed a master commando, tkm/master doc, master BH, and a master marksman today in a player city. Just so you do not think i only kill noobs.
Hi i'm a master gunfighter on Naritus server. I do not think master gunfighter sucks.! was doing rebel missions when i was jumped by a master BH. there were still two stormtroopers up and the BH. I wear only a comp chestplate and boots for armor, he was in full composite. we were both buffed, i never dented his health or action hams, so i knew he was buffed as well. my only shot that i used was fan shot. Eariler in the fight i was forced totake somemoun gold.i did have a pet razor cat out. but he ignored him. the cat was buffed as well. :-)
I won the engagement against a master BH as a master gunfighter. he should have won. I looked at the combat tab and revied what had happened. i had dodged/evaded all but one of his specials. I got stunned. I was constantly running. since we don't get a special that targets mind I just used fanshot which is fast. took a while.
To me the defensive mods and speed are what make master gunfighter worth it. he was running too, it didnt matter. he had every advantage- better specials, heaver armor, two stormtroopers, and surprise. he was not bitter or complaining about it. he sent a tell saying, "**edit** good fight. well done!" i take it as a highcomlement.
our profession doesn't suck. we put in about 92 points compaired to the BH 217. I feel that our combat power is adequite for the skill points we spend. combine it with another profession, doc or CH then you have a winner. it's not just how good your specials are, it's a combination of all skills and mods.I carry theMaster Gunfighter title with pride!
If your just into PvE - Then Master Pistoleer by itself should be good enough.
If you are into PvP - You will want to combine Smugglers - Dirty Fighting , or Expert BH (Bounty Pistol)
My current template:
Rogue (Dirty Fighting) - Master Pistoleer - TKM (Just got, since I wanted some melee)
Is pretty powerful in both PvE and PvP....
The thing I don't like though is our low damage per second hit, if someone is buffed to the gills you most of the time can't put out enough damage to hurt them, since they regen so fast.
Of course I can use my TKA against these people, but with the advent of 80% Kinetic Composite it kinda makes you wish that the Tangle was a little better...lol
Buffs are pretty much mandatory at this point in the game.
Most people have been playing long enough to be knowledgable about what they are and how to use them, thus most people do.
Anyone who pvp's is gonna be buffed, so you better be too. And with non ch pets pretty much almost worthless , you need to be able to tank yourself if you enjoy soloing.
Im a master pistoleer master doctor, With that said i do very well in pvp (with the exception of when i fight riflemen) Pistoleer is all dependent on your individual skill and your supporting professions. I can solo ravenous tortons all day long as well as any lvl faction missions 70 plus. This is how i fight i buff myself select one of my sliced guns usually speed of 1.3 sec or lower. I hit mob with my 2 bleeds by now hes charging me when he gets up to me i perfectly time the knockdown spam fan shot hes usually dead before he can get up if not the bleeds and fan shot finnish him quickly. with faction i missions i get storm trooper missions. Storm troopers are dumb and usually stand in a clump inside mission area i run up in range and spam fan shot it hits them all simultaneously and i can usually kill them all before i get hit.
Soltan Triad master pistoleer master doc Tarquinas
lol......damage out put is lame? I get 4k hits frequently, sounds like your problem with the proff was individual skill and lack of a decent gun.

I don't see why you guys are slamming him. He's fooking right.
If you HAVN'T been a master of other profs...**edit**.
This prof is a JOKE.
Against mobs, its marginal. In PvP? LOL!!! Its so lame, you might as well just sit down and die.
WHY do I say this? Because I've been a master rifleman+master CH, and a master BH (another joke of a prof).
A pistoleer can't do squat for damage >COMPARED< to other classes.
Sure, do our fan-shot or stopping-shot for a whopping 40-90 damage (Sure, sometimes it even says 300 dmg...take off the mitigation, and armor..and u get 40-90dmg). Now, compare that to the rifleman popping your head for 200 dmg a shot...
Its a JOKE guys. The class sucks. The damage is LAME in PvE and PvP.
Sure, you can 'hit' for 1500 dmg AOE with fan shot... you know what? Strafe-2 as a Rifleman hits AOE for 4-6k damage. Thats 3-4.5x more Damage.
Whoever said dropping rancors and nightsisters as a pistoleer... BIG DEAL. As a rifleman, I'd drop SCORES of them, as many as I could stack into an area, in 5-10 hits with strafe-2 or flurry-2. Try that as a pistoleer. Oh, and I didn't even need to move around. /takecover... AOE for a few hits with a T21, they agro...2 more AOE's... 4k xp/mob.
This class is a joke, its damage output is a joke. Its a lame, crappy class. And sadly, I was a jack-arse to drop rifleman to try BH...then realized BH is pistol based (for the most part), dropped that to try pistoleer. BOY did I screw up.
Compare massive mind damage + ranged DB to.. uhhh... (average) 65 damage a shot in pvp.
Sure... you(we) do 'okay' in pve.. WHO CARES about PvE? This isn't about killing mobs, its about killing players (especially Jedis). This class doesn't compete or compare.
Bitter? Yes... I am. I've wasted a TON of time to learn how lame this class (and a few others) are. Want to rule? Go TKM, and get some pistol skills for the defenses and a little ranged offense.
I can't even kill a TKM anymore... DOZENS of shots do squat for damage. As a master rifleman w/T21... Target TKM, fire head shots...keep 40m+ distance (to avoid posture change), and >20m to avoid KD... kill the TKM in 10 shots. Try killing a TKM as a pistoleer...
LAME LAME LAME PvP damage.
