Carbineer got their stuff fixed without having to wait months for a balance patch, why cant pistoleer which is much more broken than carbineer was?

that's arguable.... carbineers have MUCH higher HAM costs than we do, much lower speed mods and much slower weapons

they have an AP2 energy carbine and the most specials of any profession, but it's kind of hard to use them if you're laying on the ground incapped from them

I'd like to rehash the question about medium armour penetration, but also that our heat pistols are zero armour penetraton, the republic blaster is zero or 64m ideal ranges which isnt very useful. Also why isnt there a good old fashioned balistic damage type (lead bullets etc).

And I mastered Carbineer way back when, just mastered pistoleer a few weeks ago. Trust me, Carbineer was so borked that it made the present Pistoleer look like a class that had been programmed by Einstein after a 5 year Beta. I think it's ok now, but there's no way I'm going back.

I was at the Marksman, Pistoleer, Carbineer and Rifleman forum (Ranged Forum) at Fanfest with RandonB and there were a lot of good questions posted. As usual, a lot of answers were of the "Combat Reveamp will fix that" type, but we did get some good info. Rifleman were never meant to be as fast as they are now. As David White said, Pistoleers aren't too slow, everyone else is too fast. the two issues that I specifically asked about I will outline below.

1) Line of Sight combat- I asked the Dev panel about this Friday night. A while back on TC, maybe 6 months or so,I was running kreetle with my novice marksman on Tat. I noticed that unless I could see the target from first person view, I got the Message, "Cannot see target". There was no targetting and firing through terrain at all. I thought it was a bug so I logged out and in and tried it again, and sure enough, no firing through terrain. The point of my question was about immersion for the player, and the ability of the player to evade attacks from other players and NPC's, which I think would go a long way to address balance issues.

Well, on Friday night I was basically told that this was due to server load, that the number of people on the server determined whether or not you fired through terrain. Then at the Ranged Forum on Saterday,David White told someone in response to a question that they may have noticed on TC that they couldn't fire through terrain, and that this was new code to add to immersion. So basically, they know that a certain portion of the community would like to have LoS combat.

2) Weapons classes- I asked about this at the Ranged Forum. I specifically asked if we would see certs for weapons classes, like heavy pistol, at a certain tier, with weapons that do very similar damage, but with differing damage types. I asked this out of being kind of frustrated that I have at least one pistol of every type except for the Power-5, DE-10 and Geo, and the only pistol I currently use is either the Modified Republic or a featherweight FWG-5, and from the fact that every one that uses a pistol has a Republic blaster equipped. Most pistols I have, I only used till the next cert, which in some cases was maybe a day, my time. I was also frustrated that there are mobs out there that are only vulnerable to a specific type of damage, say kinetic, but our kinetic pistol, the Striker, has such a low damage out put that is really sucks. Even the SR Combat pistol with AP1 has a very low damage output.

The answer I got, again from David White, is that they are thinking about having weapons classes all across the combat professions, with weapons that do the same range of damage, but are differing in looks, or damage type, so that the weapon you pick to use out of that class is mostly based on asthetics. I think having a variety of pistols, or any other weapon, available say at pistols 3 in Marksman, would really open up a lot of people to the other weapons that hardly ever get used simply because their damage is to low.

Simple Questions

1. Why are the majority of our pistols crap?
2. AP2 or higher? Any chance of that happening?
3. When will pistoleer itself be considers elite and no laughed upon
4. Any chance of a master of pistols being able to use all pistols?
5. Specials... will we have more then 3 working ones?
6. Stronger DOTs?
7. Specials that target other then the health pool ( mind action ) that actually do more then tickle the NPC/pc

"Doesn't the requirement of rare loot drops for our only worthwhile crafted pistols violate nearly ever principal of game balance and crafting systems that Raph Koster said they'd learned in previous MMO's?"

Well, it's not a question answerable by 'wait for the combat balance' ... but I don't expect anything worthwhile or meaningful in TH's "19 Waffles" threads any more ... some of the most useless P.R. fluff ever generated on these forums.

It was said in the Ranged Forum that the specific stat pools being targetted by the 3 ranged professions was going bye-bye. So Pistoleers say good bye to health specific shots, Carbineers to action and Riflemen to mind.

I actually misstated myself. All combat professions are losing the targetted stat attacks.
