PSG resists shouldn't change whether you use a republic blaster or a DX2, should they? Last I read, anything with ap bypasses a PSG completely.
I dont think this is correct. I could have sworn that the Jawa used against me was being resisted by my shield and it is ap1. Does anyone have more info on this?

The DX-2 and Republic blaster are both good for PvE.
A decent amount of creatures have less resistance, if any resistance at all, to acid.
Most creatures have at least some resistance to energy.
The DX-2 and Republic are both AP1 HAM does not matter with pistoleer because when buffed I have yet to find a pistol that will cost me more than 4-10 ham per shot.
So check the target, if it is more vulnerable to acid than energy use acid, and if it is more vulnerable to energy than acid use energy. Quite simple. Their damage is actualy quite similar when it comes down to it. My republic blaster does 10 more damage max than my DX-2 does.
if thats the case, then you might need to get a new republic... on my server, base stat dx2's by the +12 smitsh are typically about 2.5 165, whereas republics are about 2.3 208 or so give or take a few points depending on resources used. modifieed republics are about the same. My WS partner makes repubs at around 2.2 206 or 2.2 210 i forget, but we use nice stuff. the republic can slice up to about 270 or so give or take a few points, whereas the dx2 will only slice up to about 222 give or take a few points. I suggest you look into this (i was stating optimal 35% slices)
stealth mcownzjoo of valcyn server
master pistoleer since augest

or maybe you should get a new dx-2.
my republic does 240 sliced and my dx-2 does 215ish sliced.
is a creature is 30% resistant to acid and 60% resistant to energy... hell yeah use the DX-2.

From JaatoWaals' "The Complete Guide to Armor and Armorcrafting"
AP:2(kinetic) vs AR:1(70% resists to kinetic) and a PSG
Bob, realizing that he cannot defeat Golden Joe with his bare hands, whips out his Vibro Axe one last time. Dodging Joe's wild swing, he slashes at Joe, dealing 100 points of damage. Above Joe's head floats the number 37 and Joe, puzzled at the amount of damage he suffered while wearing his beautiful armor and PSG, dies.
What is going on here: To begin with, when an armor piercing attack penetrates a PSG, the PSG blocks no damage, even if it is resistant to that damage type. Next, Bob's attack was AP2, which is one step greater than Joe's armor (AP1). As a result, his damage is boosted by 25%. Finally, because Joe's ubese armor has a 70% resistance to kinetic, the total damage is reduced by 70%, resulting in 27 points of damage.
Maybe it's only when the ap is higher than ap1 that it ignores PSGs. No examples with ap1 vs PSG.
I wonder how current this info is.. But I can believe it..
