MandarrCOG. I see where you're coming from, but it makes more sense to leave it the way it currently works (after all, we don't HAVE another cone shot, and MTPS+D2 are our circular or AOE shots besides the PBS's)

After all, this 'has' happened before where the descriptions in skill boxes or for skills have not fit with the way the skill was 'meant' to work or even did work. All in all however, Fan shot would be preferable to remain the way it is, with them fixing the description to fit the ability, rather than borking the ability to fit the flawed description.

Wouldn't that be acceptable to you MandarrCOG?

Heres what i know about FanShot...

If there close to you it is a very small area that is effected and if the target is like 60m away its a pretty wide target.

You do have to be carfull where you shoot..it is easy to aggro mobs in the back ground, if your running around firing

@Sepen: How many false descriptions in SWG ? And how many profession bugs in SWG ?

So you got your answer...

Actually yes indeed it would, although I don't really seriously think my oppinion matters. I'm on my way back to pistoleer after doing all the other professions to get the jedi I don't play and I just want it to be as fun as it should be for all of us. I'm not a numbers person so I have to assume that if ya'll can see that the shots are just switched around then I'll certainly be looking forward to getting back to master pistoleer so I can use the master shot on one target. Sorry I'm such an asswipe, but I get frustrated very easily when I attempt to make my side of the debate heard.

Just an FYI...

The developers did not make up the term "fan shot". It's a real term from real life.

To "fan" a gun means to use your main hand to aim the gun and hold down the trigger, while your other hand "fans" the hammer. It comes from the old west, when the revolver was the gun of choice.

The way a revolver works is, you pull the trigger which pulls back the hammer, then releases it. The hammer hits a pin which strikes the back of the bullet. This ignites the gunpowder in the shell, and the gas from the ignition forces the bullet out. Basically, it's like a blowgun with the "blowing" done by a small explosion. Oh, the action of the hammer cocking also causes the cylinder to rotate, bringing the next bullet inline with the barrel to be fired.

At one point somebody figured out that you can manually pull back the hammer which works faster than pulling the trigger. If you slap the hammer really fast, you can unleash all of your bullets really fast, almost like a machinegun. So the gunslinger holds out the gun with one hand, slaps the hammer really fast with the palm of the other hand, and fires a bunch of bullets at once.

So the term "fan shot" has nothing to do with where the bullets go, it has to do with the way the pistoleer fires the gun. Since the majority of guns in SWG don't fire bullets, let alone being a revolver with a hammer, it's doubtful that you literally fan a gun with fan shot. Most likely it's just named after a really cool pistol trick and was named because you're firing your pistol quickly.

None of that helps resolve whether or not the cone effect was intended or a bug, but it does show that the name "fan shot" doesn't mean the shot is "fan-shaped".

Here's a definition of the verb "fan" from Merriam-Webster dictionary:

Main Entry: 2fan
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): fanned; fan·ning
transitive senses
1 a : to drive away the chaff of (grain) by means of a current of air b : to eliminate (as chaff) by winnowing
2 : to move or impel (air) with a fan
3 : to blow or breathe upon
4 a : to direct a current of air upon with a fan b : to stir up to activity as if by fanning : STIMULATE
5 archaic : WAVE
6 slang : SPANK
7 : to spread like a fan
8 : to strike (a batter) out in baseball
9 : to fire a series of shots from (a single-action revolver) by holding the trigger back and successively striking the hammer to the rear with the free hand
intransitive senses
1 : to move like a fan : FLUTTER
2 : to spread like a fan -- often used with out
3 : STRIKE OUT 3
- fan·ner /'fa-n&r/ noun

i don't know about you guys, but i tend to go to the range a bit.

Do you konw how freaking hard it is to keep your aim straight when "fanning" (which is what i'm going to call it from now on :smileytongue.

the general idea i think is to pump the maximum number of bullets in a small area of effect (basically a slower version of spray and pray). Now do not mistake my post as sayingit's impossible, becuase i've known quite a few guys thatcould pull off some amazing gunwork.

on a side note:

MandarrCOG, i think you at least owe RandonB an apology.

He did not state anything actively against your case, or even show youany animosity. What he offered was a factual and useful tip for a new pistoleerabout how this special works (at the moment). Your response toourCorrespondant (who does this for pleasure and NOT for money) has been very rude.

upon seeing some further evidence i see your point and i think itcould bevalid, but your methods leavesomething to bedesired.

Fanning a gun in real life, I would guess, would be something that you'd either have to be VERY good to do successfully (like the Waco Kid!), or something to cause people to dive for cover so you can make a getaway.

I don't care about all this pointless bickering, I dont' care whether or not people think Fanshot's broken. What I care about is that we have NO SINGLE-TARGET, HIGH-DAMAGE SPECIAL WORTH USING. Stoppingshot is great if youv'e got BH, but otherwise it's pointless due to the delay. At Master Pistoleerwe have no effective single-target shots. When attacking high-end mobs, using fanshot is usually suicidal, since it aggroes everything in front of you...at once, so we need an effective single-target attack. So I say remove either fanshot or multi-target (I don't give a damn which) and replace it with a high-damage-moderate-delay special with a status effect. Give us a special we're happy to use, not all these broken, useless, and substandard types.

I will not apologize to someone who has responded to me in such a way as he did. I likewise responded in the same manner back and it makes no difference if he's the correspondant of the President of SOE. I treat all people the same.

Mandarr, you must be INSANE. He wasn't even responding to your post at all. He was showing how it works, and that's it. He didn't even respond to suggestions that it wasn't working correctly, or that it was supposed to be a single-target attack, he popped in, showed how it is currently working, and left.

I think you have a persecution complex. You're acting all offended by something that didn't even happen.

Read his post again. I see nothing that says your name, or puts ANY insult on you.

now if he had of said, "Geez wiz MandarrCOG you're a moron, it's THIS WAY" then i would be on your side stating that he was being harsh.

HOWEVER, in this case you blew up at him for no apparent reason, as i said he showed you no animosity.

According to that SWG damage calculation site I do more DPS with Healthshot1 than any other attack (I am far from the speed cap though).
