I find it hillarious that a man with his bare fists has a better chance (and hits every time i might add) of killing a JEDI than a BOUNTY HUNTER shooting frickin LASER beams... the real funny thing is teh bounty hunter proffesion is all ranged, and yet all ranged is nerfed to any jedi... so whats the point?

I find it hilarious that a guy with a sword made of out light can deflect laser beams with it!!!

Does anyone know of any Armed force or Police force in the world where people are routeenly trained to use a Sword or a Halberd?

Personaly I can't think of one... why?

Could it have been something to do this that Gunpower milarky people started messing around with?

True, but these are generally guns.

British armed police have till recently been armed with a Hand Gun or a Carbine, Soon to be replaced with a general purpose Carbine.

Armed Forces and S.W.A.T. teams use a full range of guns and grenades. Most with have a combat Knife for close quarters.

The point is people don't use Swords any more. There obsolete. Can't possibly imagine why people would want to use one in a more advanced civilization either. The only people who tend to go for longer bladed weapons are those that perhaps don’t have access to guns. Criminals holding up Jewelry store with a machete for example.

Having said that this is Star Wars and there are still primitive cultures in the SW universe. So you would expect to see the full spectrum of weapons development on show. In the films we saw a few people brandishing more primitive looking weapons: Lando as a Hutt Guard, Ewoks in General, Tuskan Raiders etc, and this adds depth. But I would never expect to see someone who had the choice between a melee weapon and an advanced laser weapon opting for the melee weapon. Nor would I expect them to have any chance if they did.

You will always have masters of a weapon however. Martial Artists who have learned to use a weapon to an outstanding level. But I would be inclined to think even these talented individuals would fall before a combatant equally skilled in a chosen firearm.

One of the most poignant scenes for me from 'The Seven samurai' is when the Katana master (I don't recall the characters name, but it was the chap who trained and trained to perfection), is shot in middle of the final battle. He falls to the mudded ground with a look of bewilderment on his face, that all his skills where for nothing against an unskilled foot soldier with a primitive rifle.

This I know is going off topic a little, and I know has been the subject of countless posts arguing for and against. In my opinion Star Wars should be more about guns and swords be left to the likes of WoW. The swords we should see in Star Wars are the signature glowing types. The very fact that a Lightsaber is based on a primitive weapon concept is what marked them as something different. It gave them a sort of throw back heritage.

Of cause one could argue that we should not be seeing them at all if this is true to Star Wars, or at the most as a rare artifact that a character may find and could use, but never gain any proficiency in. But I think that one has been talked over to death as well already...

I think of the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark where Indy blows away (with his DE-10/striker pistol hybrid) that swordsman. There's something about that scene that impresses me even more since I became a Pistoleer...

I completely agree with you. I don't think melee weapons (other than lightsabers) fit into the Star Warsuniverse. Sure, there would be primitive cultures who still use unpowered melee weapons, but the ones who are traveling on starships and routinely encountering advanced civilizations are going to bedefending themselves withranged weapons if they want to stay alive for longer than their first scuffle. I mean no offense to anyone who has chosen a melee profession in this game--just that I don't think the game was designed the way it should have been in that regard.

One thing that has always perplexed me in Star Wars (the movies, not the game) is why stormtroopers bother to wear their white stormie armor. All it ever takes is one blast from a CDEF pistol to kill any of them, so why bother wearing it at all? I suppose it would give them some protection from melee damage, but meleers could never get near them without being blasted.

Added: Geneva Convention prohibits the use of "Cross Bows" in wartime events (by Formal Militaries, however special operations still employs the use of such weapons). Why you may ask? They are dead silent and *inflict wounds* that bleed objects to death. "A single bolt projected from a crossbow, hitting a target, can cause prolonged bleeding with the eventual result of death is to be considered a form of cruelty".

The reason bullets and munitions aren't disallowed from general military use, from what i have read, is that they can potentially kill an object instantly on impact, thus lowering pain and suffering. However, one could argue they do the same thing as a Crossbow - in which cases they do and worse. Dumb people come up with dumb rules, leading to dumb wars........

Thought i would clarify that for you "disbeliever" down there.

Sounds liek the perfect weapon to use on the Jedi - I dont think they could predict where a crossbow bolt was coming from, i.e. Jango's Kamino Dart in EP II

It always makes me chuckle when I read about "rules" for warfare--it makes it sound like playing a game. "Hey, no fair, that general ordered his troops to hit us with weapons that make us bleed! Penalty points!" What ever happened to "all's fair in love and war?"

No, I don't really believe that.

At this point I don't think the CU will really fix anything thats wrong with the game. Tell the truth I'm thinking about dropping Pistoleer/BH for TKM/Fencer... There's no point to having ranged classes that miss in pvp, do less damage to the rest of the classes and have next to no defence... It's sad but melee looks to be where the game is heading...

Hey man, rememeber one thing about the CU please. The main reason in my eyes for the darn thing , is the fact that in most cases melee tends to be the easier combat skills. People are having trouble learning how to kite, eat food, and on some servers there are total crap crafters meaning bad weapons. With respect to ppl who craft, always, no offense. Aside from that my point is, melee fighters have it easy ::: MOST OF THE TIME::: not always. The defensive trees for a majority of ranged folks is inadequate and the supposed super heafty offensive capabilities arent there. p.s. most speacial attacks NERFED...

I just mastered pistoleer about 4 months ago and then took BH pistols, then smuggler line. I really enjoy this tree, and I have fun with it. I must admit that learning to Kite and paying upwards of 8 - 20 million for a freaking pistol is absolutly insane, as opposed to a really nice knuckler for 2k a create with some good armor for around 300k.

Anyway I still think the combat upgrade will balance the trees defenses and hopefully fix the broken specials. Aside from that learning to pvp, find good weapons, eat good foods, and most of all LEARN YOUR PROFESSION will be totally up to us.
