That doesnt seem very balanced...why have a profession at all...if you plan on making a group of professions much better than them.
If it is made so that Riflemen, Carbineers and Pistoleers can always take down TKM, Swordsman, Fencers and Pikeman then you open an extremely ugly and horrid big can of worms.
Its called combat balance for a reason.
There is the old saying.. dont bring fists to a knife fight and dont bring a knife to a gun fight... well in SWG it seems to be:
dont bring a gun to a knife fight.. unless we kite someone.. a melee class is just stronger(riflemen are a bit of an exception). I dont mind melee being better in pve but for pvp ranged should be the beter than melee IMO. This isnt some fantasy game like everquest or DAC.. this is star wars. How many people did you see running around with power hammers and vk's in the star wars movies..
Anyways I would like to see a shift over to ranged more so than melee. Not hugely powerful but more like what a rifleman is in comparrison to melee classes.
/agree. the way I see it this is SW. It's a land where the blaster reigns supreme
Actually in this universe a fancy flashlight reigns supreme. But we cannot inject too much reality/common sense into this game, or it becomes like battlefield 1942 where you pretty much die in 2 shots and end up spending half your time respawning... We should be creating balanced professions that all have their own strengths. Are you suggesting that we completely get rid of the Fencers, Swordsmen, Pikeman and Teras Kasi Artists? That doesnt sound like a good move for the game as a whole.

I'm not suggesting that at all. The melee classes have their places and IMO that is a CQB/urban combat enviroment. IMO your melee classes and pistoleer should be your street fighters. Not as deadly when far away but when in tight streets or enclosed spaces they are lethal. Your rifle/carbine/commando should be the open area types. In an area where he has a full field of view the the majority of the ranged classes should reign supreme.
