Thread: Randonb! Where's our TH Question this week?!

and it's in the timeline to submit our third questions when he's supposed to have answered our second........ are we just going to be a week behind or will TH do a bunch in one week to catch up?
I like the question Randomband I agree with Kevie's response about being a solo profession. It seems that people (and probably the Devs too) assume that all pistoleers = BH+pistoleer, or pistoleers = smuggler+pistoleer because most pistoleers end up picking up these professions just to become effective in combat. I'd love to hear a response that pistoleers will be a stand alone profession if you choose to do so.

It looks like the most common suggestion(almost half of the votes) want to ask a question about our planned role. It was a substantial majority, with dual wield as a far distant 2nd.
The community is frustrated with being a "sideshow" in groups (low DPS, low accuracy, average defenses for a ranged profession, only a melee knockdown& a bleed for special attacks) and having sub-par performance in solo play. They would like some insight into what their role is expected to be in the coming days when they will be considered a contender. What will our role be? What are our intended advantages?
We've submitted a great deal of thoughts & opinions on what we want to be, but haven't yet heard how it meshes with the development team's vision or plan.
my question for thunderheart was "would there be any effort to differentiant between pistoleers and other professions that use pistols?"
is there any way that we could squeeze that in? maybe ask "will our role only be defined by what other support professions we pick up?"
i would like to know if our role could be a solo effort, without the need to dabble in other professions to be useful

he reworded my question and tacked it on with a couple of others

While listing the low dps and things, you also might bring to their attention the tendecy for new content to alienate us as a class, as our weapons really have no appreciable effect on ever tougher mobs with defenses our mere AP1 weapons can't really scratch. We've already seen in the Geo Caves to some degree, and the corvette how ineffective we are in PvE team play. But now, all PvP and solo concerns aside, our ineffective combat skills and AP are starting to get us left out of expeditions to the newest and even harder theme park, where one of the loot drops is targeted at us specifically. All we do is take up space and draw fire in a 20 person group. That being the case, we're being passed over for more 'useful professions like TKM's and RM's and CM's and Doctors and basically any combat class that ISN'T a pistoleer. So if we're not getting anything like a useful AP against ever-increasingly tough PvE mobs, are we just not meant to be doing any of the new content they've been giving our profession a miss in favor of introducing?
stealth mcownzjoo of valcyn
master pistoleer since augest
I'd quite agree in this case. And VERY particularly in the case of the Tenloss DX-2. If Mcownzjoo's suggestion were taken into account, the damage that every description of the DX-2 disruptor pistol implies could finally be made a reality. AP0 or AP1 at normal pistol ranges, but something like AP3 at point blank. I know that sounds like a little much until you take into account that the DX-2 is supposed to be able to do, and I quote:
"These small handheld pistols can disintegrate a 1x1 meter durasteel plate up to a half meter thick, or penetrate force-fields, personal battle armour, and vehicle and starship hull plating. Against living targets, these weapons almost always cause instantaneous death, and even a glancing blast causes horribly painful injuries that must be treated immediately in order to prevent irreparable nerve damage.
Most disruptors utilize brute force rather than technological innovations to produce their lethal blasts. The oversized XCiter and the actuating blaster module produce a much higher volume of blaster gas, while the barrel's series of galven cylinders tightly focusses the beam, concentrating the blast's high energy particles. However, because of the crude design, disruptors tend to have short ranges and a limited ammunition capacity: The DX-2 has an optimum range of 5 meters, and a maximum range of 7 meters and drains a standard power pack after just 5 shots..."

Sounds like an AP3 weapon to me. But only at point blank. THAT would even up the odds a mite and accurately reflect the weapon.

The answers in group 2will probably be like the ones given in group 1, as in, everyrequest or question was met with a definitive NO. Go read the thread

Look at this answer from thunderheart to a reply:

ok, nice TH. A tip for ya TH, when we CHs give the Q for next week, please don't give the 'wait for the combat revamp' explaination, we are all tired of hearing that. I'm also glad that you posted the answers, those on the CH boards were beginning to think you weren't gonna start it back up"

Okay, I understand he ended that with a JOKE disclaimer. But this is far beyond joking time. One would hope that we don't get something along the same line. I don't hope for much cos after a year I'm really losing faith. I'm thinking by this time that the Combat Revamp better be a 'make me get up out of my seat and run around in excited freaking ecstasy heedless of rest or food for the next 24 hours' kind of revamp. Essentially, with all the stuff that gets answered with a 'Wait for the Revamp' answer, I imagine it's supposed to fix EVERYTHING that's been broken since rollout. I doubt that's going to happen, but the constant wait for the revamp answer is having that effect on expectation.
So let's hope our specifically crafted to not get a wait for the revamp answer gets the treatment it deserves. If not, I offer myself as a development correspondant to SOE. Tell me where I need to move to. I can interview the Dev's for the different professions face to face and get clear answers as to why things aren't happening, being fixed, or are outright denied or ignored in favor of new content. I do not play politics. I do not believe in non-answers or evasive answers. And I'm pretty darn honest about every last thing I bother to say or type. Put me on the payroll SOE. I can do this.
