Thread: Why keep my Master Pistoleer?
Master pistoleer gets more skill bonuses than any other combat profession's master box.
So we get more "text" in our last box? Maybe one day that will mean something, but right now, it does not. Our concern is that this glorious road to mastery, leaves you with this:
Master Pistoleer –
Special: Multi Target Pistol Shot
Special: Disarming Shot 2
Skill Mod: Pistol Accuracy +10
Skill Mod: Pistol Speed +20
Skill Mod: Dodge +10
Skill Mod: Ranged Defense +5
Skill Mod: Melee Defense +5
Skill Mod: Pistol Aiming +4
Skill Mod: Pistol Accuracy While Moving +10
OK:
#1 Multi target pistol shot doesnt work, yay mastery
#2 Disarming shot 2 - nerfed, or never was correct, who knows. No longer is worth firing...yay mastery
#3 Accuracy/speed : Bounty Hunters have similar accuracy, and MORE speed...so this is special how? And aiming accuracy..lol, good one. So yay mastery.
#4 Dodge : Doesn't work, yay mastery (entire tactics tree worthless...WHY??)
#5 Melee defense/Ranged defense +5 : Interesting. I think I won a PvP fight the other day because of this...or not. You can pick up 6x this bonus in a line of TKA, which many do. This is NOT a reason to go to mastery.
So yes, we got more text in our mastery box, but nothing worth it, correct? The gripe folks have is, that #1 most of it is complete garbage, #2, you can get far better with pistols AND defense if you only choose only SOME pistoleer skills, then dabble in smuggler, TKA/Fencing, Bounty Hunter Pistol, in some combination. So we're not even talking about "just the mastery box", we're talking about, why not just get a few pistoleer trees + Other profession skills for better results with pistols. Yes, they might fix it, but the point is, right now, many can do better without going to mastery.
Also take into account that the 17 boxes below mastery are mostly replacement special attacks (fan shot, stopping shot, double tap, point blank single 2...you only need fan shot), melee attacks (neat, but come on, everyone else has ranged knockdown, this isn't exactly stellar), and body shot 3, our lovely health target special that does LESS damage for a pure master pistoleer than body shot 2. Heck, the entire tactics tree is currently worthless to a pure master pistoleer.
So yeah, I think as the game currently stands, mastering pistoleer isn't necessarily the right choice for someone that wants to be the best (or at least really good) with pistols. Sure, it may change, but some folks prefer to have a working profession NOW, and thus, drop mastery and some worthless skill boxes in pistoleer, and move skills around to compensate in some other way.
I don't think we're saying anything about other professions having it easy or hard. We're saying, "Why keep my Master Pistoleer". It's been shown that it's not currently a superb choice. MY Hope is that it's all fixed one day, since I don't really have the luxury of dropping master pistoleer
(I probably woudn't anyway, I want to hang on for the ride).
This is the pistoleer forum, we talk about what's broken with pistoleers. I'd HOPE that the other professions are also trying to get their specials/skills etc, to work properly, and to discuss nerfs that they just endured, etc. That's what we're discussing here, I think it's more than appropriate.
"Once the knockdown nerf goes through, gaining experience is going to slow down dramatically for everyone (other than riflemen who will still be going around soloing krayts and jedi knights)."
And all this time we riflemen were hunting the wrong mobs. You know, Alessandra, it's difficult to commiserate with your profession when you make FALSE statements about other professions. A rifleman soloing a krayt. Uh huh.
I was a Rifleman and I abandoned it for Pistoleer. Why? It's not much fun going with a group and shooting something's Mind pool while everyone else it attacking it's Health pool. You say "don't use a special shot then". Well, if you don't special shot it, then what's the point of being a rifleman? You can use a laser rifle 1/2 up the marksman tree. What I found was that even after concealing, mobs would come up and melee me. Then what? I'd pull out my wrinky dink pistol and shoot away. So I finally figured, might as well get pistoleer and save myself the hassle.
Now I'm a pistoleer and CH. So my pet and I both attack the Health pool and mobs go down much quicker.
The moral? A rifleman who can take down a Krayt alone is a very lucky rifleman. Pistoleer skills aren't that bad. I just got double tap and knockdown this weekend and enjoy them both. Nerfs you say? Well guess what, everything is getting nerfed, face it. I've switched professions 4 times b/c of nerfs. I'm staying put now because everything will be nerfed soon.
My advice: Don't try to be the end all player. Find something you like and stick with it until the Nerfs blow over. At least then you'll enjoy the game.
Bull
I dunno...
I watched a Rifleman friend of min Conceal shot a Kimo to death SOLO. The thing didnt even know he was there. And what the hell is with Rifle Spraystick? Looks like a pistoland fires faster then any pistol I have.
The only Pistoleer skill I use at Master level is Fanshot and Healthshot 2. Rest of my moves come from the Marksman Line. Sad.
Jaegen ... I thought that was your best post yet. Sums it all up perfectly. ![]()
I hope THAT is your next mail to the Devs. Seriously ... our whole profession isn't worth getting, aside from Pistolwhip (one box up from Master). BH Pistol and Smuggler is the better path to take for pistols.
