Thread: Resignation as Correspondent
Thanks for the help, support and commitment you have always shown.
All the best in whatever you do next.
Pistoleer needs to find a unique role unmoung marksman and not just be the profession to stack a line and be 'uber' with (remember the pistol tech stackers?). Id go as far to say that our best moves should be pistol only, all of them....

Always the ones that care the most that get burned....

I'm still aPistoleer because I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with the profession.
I'm about to get another load of guns mate with Krayt and Gorax bits, I'm putting together an inventory full of the best chef and smuggler buffs that complement Pistoleerand looking to get the best in recon armour.
Log in and send me a tell bro, so you can atleast play with all the new pistols before you leave

Will you still be playing SWG then?
I dont think so...I have time left to reverse the cancellation...but I dont see what could keep me...I dont even feel like going to kashyyyk to get the trando pistol...even though that seems what we are suppose to do.

Hehe, well said.
Reading all the comments that people have written in this thread, it made me ask myself why I insist on remaining a pistoleer. I mean, I actually stepped back and took a good hard look at why I am not a Rifleman instead (which would be my second choice). What made me give up Rifleman, when I tried it in the respec, was that it had no specials that impressed me at all (not even Kneecap Shot). But I find myself using very few of the Pistoleer specials anyway--I mostly use BH specials. Rifleman does have two major advantages over pistoleer: (1) much better range, and (2) more powerful weapons. I didn't want to give up my hard-earned pistol collection though, and I didn't want to give up Stopping Shot (and I wouldn't have enough skill points to pick up the Stopping Shot line from Pistoleer if I respec'd, given the rest of my chosen template). Also, to use my Combat Medic attacks, I have to close to pistol range anyway.
Basically, it came down tothe fact that Iam remaining a Pistoleer because that is what I was used to playing, and I wanted to see if I could be viable with it in the CU. Probably not the greatest reason to keep a profession in this game, I know, and now I have myself wondering if I'm going to continue to keep it. Thanks for making me stop and think about it objectively.
Anyway, I defeinitely understand your frustration, Maxx. I give you credit for staying on as our correspondent as long as you did.
That happened to me to. I have found myself several times since CU hit ask myself Why I was pistoleer. Only answer I could come up with was that I Love Pistoleer to much to leave it heh. I guess some of us share weaknesses lol
hehe. And I'm still one because first, ... err.. I always was one and don't know how to play diferently, and second , because I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with the profession also. But while you are getting the higher damage weapons path, I'm getting the "get pistol speed tapes till you can't use more" road... and i say, it is pretty funny what one can do with almost 200 overall speed amd a -29.9% speed powerup...the definition burst damage really gets another meaning....

Then I'm going to have fun stuffing Pistoleer down every FOTM Rifleman/BH's neck... should that be possible.
I can still see a lot of potential in the profession, I love the ability to dump your entire action bar on a target in a few seconds causing maximum damage. In other online games I've played this was a very useful tactic and one that I'm quite fond of.

Its apparent they had a plan for what they wanted pistoleer to be...I just wish they could have communicated that to me better.
Well, you can't take that personally ... they're just not very good at communication, and never have been in this project. Too disorganized, not well managed ... I feel very badly for the average code-grunt pushing out code in this project, they are not getting really good help at the managerial level.
when you first came on none of us had heard of you, but i'm glad you took the reigns after randon left
pistoleer till the end though, here's to hoping we get a little more love
/salute, LordMaxx
The killer issue for Pistols is the range, which is why I no longer rely on my beloved pistols in favour of unbeloved rifles. And unless something is done to balance weapons, every ranged player will be a Rifleman derivitive once respec ends.

Hello fellow pistoleers. I am sorry to say that I am resigning as Pistoleer Correspondent. I feel that this is a good time to do this, so that someone else can lead you through the ups and downs of Post RotW and CU pathces and changes.
Our profession has taken a huge turn in its function and design. Some may say its good some may not like it. I always belived that pistoleers have been a stepping stone for other professions. Meaning people took pistoleer, but only to enhance their main profession...mainly it was Bounty Hunter before the Combat Upgrade. Pistoleer could not survive with having BH...I was hoping this would change after the CU.
When I was first shown the pistoleer tree I could not tell how it would affect us until I actually saw the code in action. And when pistoleer was finally shown to me in test I have to say I was still not happy with our ability to put "steel on target" as it goes. In accordance with the Main plan which you all saw we were becoming a "mezzer" in a way. We were able to mess with our target to debuff them and make them less able to harm us and our team mates. I guess all MMORPGS need this type of support character, but that is the opposite direction of where I thought we should go. Our damage output was still subpar from what I thought it should be. And one of our strengths listed was close range defense. The level system unfortunately threw that out the window. Melee and Ranged defense mods not only dont mean as much...but we had about the same levels as our rifle and carbine counterparts. So our defenses were not what would make us stand apart. So it had to be our abilities.
One of the unfortunate aspects in my opinion of the Combat Upgrade is the fact that ANY profession could use our abilities. So once again we become the stepping stone for the true masters...why would a group need a master pistoleer if their Rifleman/BH has stopping shot and warning shot...as a backup mezzer? And master pistoleer holds no benefit in my eyes, since the weapons of a master pistoleer are the same if not worst than master weapons or CL 54 weapons that anyone can pick up.
There are still changes to be made. but Im sorry that I will not be here to see them done. Please understand I gave SWG everything I could, but I just see it as my time to move on.
Thank you pistoleers, and for whomever follows me, please keep up the fight. Make our profession strong in its own right instead of just a small addon for other professions.
Good luck in what ever you do…are you keeping pistol if you do stay? At this point and time I don't see why anybody would.

After reading and digesting this thread, I gave more serious thought today to Rifleman vs. Pistoleer, and I went and respec'd to Rifleman again today just to give it further consideration. While there are still very few rifle specials that I care for, I mostly use BH specials anyway, and the much greater range of rifles is not a trivial consideration (nor is the damage output). Whereas I had thought that Stopping Shot was one of the main attractions of pistols for me, I spent a very long hunting session today without it, using only rifles, and found that I didn't really need it. I can do the same thing with snares and knockdowns coupled with the greater range of rifles, and I didn't even really have to kite anything today or use my combat droid as a tank (the way I do when I hunt with pistols). I was fighting mainly CL 82 mobs, both melee and ranged, both energy- and kinetic-dealing, and was doing extremely well. I did have to burst run out of the Nightsister cave when two of them mobbed me at once one too many times though. ![]()
I haven't found that Pistoleer is any less viable than Rifleman--it's just that it takes longer for a Pistoleer to kill things given the lower damage output, which is offset somewhat by Pistoleer's greater defenses. I don't think I was dying any more often with Pistoleer. I am getting incapped very infrequently with either template (though more than I did pre-CU). Rifleman does use up a lot more action than Pistoleer though, and even with food buffs, I found myself running out of action quite often. That's the only important downside I could see to that profession, but on the other hand, I was able to kill most mobs before I ran out of action.
So who knows what profession I will keep now... I guess it depends on what I happen to have spec'd at the time my respec period runs out. One comment for Nifty and Badger... I find that with Rifleman, I don't have as much use for my Combat Medic offenses, because I am not often close enough to my target to be able to use them. I may respec back to CM 4000 if I still have time, but haven't decided yet--the fire and poison came in handy in the Nightsister cave earlier today...
Oh yeah, I forgot thatthis thread is about Maxx... I find myself even more sympathetic to you now than I did earlier!
WhateverI end up doing, I still love the Pistoleer profession, and will remain a Pistoleer at heart.
