Thread: What makes you think you should be the fastest?
Finally some people are understanding it. That there's more to pistoleer then just being the fastest at shooting.
If I wasn't conveying it properly I agree with Sostubborx. There are better ways of doing it, although I don't think it is fair to bring in the bugs which are unintentional.
And then there's the guy that comes along and one stars it. No argument, no valid discussion.
So why should pistols be the fastest? Well I'd say pistols should be the fastest aimed fire weapon at close range. Ever see the national speed matches they have each year? Those guys will clear a clip in about a second ortwo, then switch magazines and clear that one too...all rounds complete in a bout3-4 seconds ---mostly without a single miss. Now, can a rifle shoot as fast? Sure, it's called full automatic/semi-automatic weapons (and then 'pumping' the trigger on semi's), whereby they rely on volume of fire in a situation where accuracy is traded off for that volume of fire due to a target rich environment. Spray n' pray (you hit).
The increased power of the rifle round is just not conducive to sustained rapid fire with any accuracy. Sure I've seen a guy use semi-auto rifles reasonably quickly (still not that fast). The slow down comes from the shooting process of delivering lead at range. Because the target is at range i.e. a little itty bitty target, a careful aim must be placed with a weapon that requires an aiming process involving the whole upper body to support the weapon (arms, shoulders, head, neck, and torso). With the pistol the shooter uses the light, maneuverable pistol as an extension of the arm and essentially 'points his finger' at the target -a target, I might add, that more or less fills his sights when he aims.
I've seen a lot of real good replies to what pistols/carbines/rifles are and how they are employed. What I haven't seen posted is that carbines (RL) came about as shortened versions of their original design (based on a rifle) in order to provide greater portability, i.e. the cavalry got carbine versions of a larger rifle as were easier to manage on horseback...paratroopers got them so they weren't so friggin long and easier to manage in doing their job (lighter, shorter, etc..) I think SWG uses the terms to differentiate between long, medium, and short ranged weapons.
and....
DANG! I'd love to see a real automatic weapon in this game.

I agree. Not disupting that at all. But that's not what we're seeing in the pistoleer forum. What we're seeing is pistoleers calling for the highest cylic rate. Faster = better to them with no regard for anythign else.

Once again Im in complete agreement with you but again you'll see that most posts in this forum seem to want the rifle just to be capped. They need to have fast attacks but at the cost of accuracy.
hmm so you think pistoleers should be slow and doing low damage?
No. Not at all. People have assumed that because they go on the defensive without thinking.
The reason people want higher dps is because when a pistoleer goes hunting with most other combat classes thats all he can do. Versatility is removed so they think, at least they should do damage. I think the speed and the damage of the pistol is about right at the moment but we need more aimed fire moves that do decent things like stuns, snares ( mob slows down ), a proper disarm, and even high damage against mobs within 10 feet ( because a pistol can target gaps between armour whereas with a carbine you have to spray ).
If you make the pistol any faster then it already is people with marksman 3 or 4 will be at the speed cap. There would be no reason for going to master pistoleer. As we currently stand a master pistoleer with a decently made weapon is already looking at a speed so far below the cap it's unreal. Wait till they remove that cap.
i think there is another important fact that u have left out - and that would be aiming...
I didn't leave it out at all. My statement was simply that carbines are typically faster. I wanted to know why people are campaigning for something that is unrealistic, not only in comparison to real life, but in terms of game balance.
you can shoot a pistol rather fast, compared to a carbine, or even a rifle, from the point of pulling it out your holster - respectivly there should be a delay timer for pistols, carbines and rifles when starting to shoot - and that would make a pistol faster
Yep, I think thats a great idea. It goes hand in hand with the idea of holsters. How do you implement it though since most people engage a mob, not get so close that the mob engages them.
People are coming up with some good ideas, and yet there are still people who believe we should be much faster, and more damaging and to me, that's boring, and not why I play a game. I do understand though that some people want to be the best, regardless of how boring it is.
