It's not always the best to use against harder enemies. I find it quicker to hose them with bodyshot3 or stopping shot.

Use a pet if you can. I was hunting skreegs and i would send my pet in after them and they would all group around my pet. Easy to hit them all with fanshot and my fwg5. Unfortunatly, like others have said, I would sometimes hit another creature out of range (Klicknik Queen one time) or I would hit the nest bringing more of their friends into battle.

It's also good when in groups.

I think every successful hit carries with it the chance to apply a DOT, so I think everything you hit has a chance of being DOTed.

Fan shot works the same way as melee spin moves as far as DOTs are concerned.

If the potency is high enough you should have no trouble stacking DOTs on multiple targets.

I have also seen however, and this hasnt been tested by myself, that the chance seems to go down on those that arent either the target or very close to it. It seems the chance to DOT goes down as you move further to the outside edges of the cone.

I haven't tried it with Fanshot, but I know the pointblank area attacks apply will apply DOTS to Multiple targets. I use to use my replublic blaster to do this to low npc mobs all the time. Now in a Pvp environment it is probably nerfed.
