In PvE, I can certainly live without medic. Feign Death is the non-Medic's heal. 
I prefer to keep the Smuggler line because I love pistols and pistol specials including Low Blow (ranged KD), Last Ditch (hella damage), Panic Shot (ranged delay) and Intimidate (from the pre-req Brawler prof). With all the Health bleeds available between Marksman, Pistoleer, Smuggler and Bounty Hunter there isn't much you can't take down with some patience using Feign Death.

Yeah, Pug, I actually do envy you for having the Dirty Fighting line (I would love to have FD), and I have considered giving up Medic for it. But it takes more skill points to get Dirty Fighting than what I have tied up in medic, and I don't want to have to give up any of my Scout skills. That's a good point you made about not needing medic if you always fight in a group that includes healers. I do most of my fighting solo, so I can't rely on anybody for in-battle healing but myself.

Keep it flexible. If a good spawn of hide/meat comes along, pick up some more scout. Other than that, I'd pick the slice for more payout. (No more solo groups).

Iam a pistoleer amd M combat med. I usually throw 2 health poisons, a disease, and tehn spam healthshot 2, until they bleed, and then I switch to double tap and let my poison/disease take down there bars to mush. Im not a very well liked person on my server..
as for this discussion, i like the idea holding some medical skill, it does grant you the ability to heal 2/3 bars without little reporcussion to your mind. If you have decent entertainer buffs, 2 brandy and some muon and pixie just incase, you can basically take down any profession with this template. Not to mention, well placed stats, and decent doc buffs, with some good comp armour for us armor jockies makes life a lot easier in PvP/
