I feel if it caused the same damage as the other person firing the weapon, it wouldn't be bad. However, it would be even 'cooler' if it made that weapon unequippable for say 20 seconds.

The idea behind my original post was a low damage attack(very low damage, as in 20-35 points, but never anything but the weapon) that was delt directly to the weapon equiped forDisarming 1, perhaps a chance for a state effect. And the same, plus the ability to enquip the weapon for a set amount of time, lets say, 5-7 seconds, and the logic behind them not being able to equip it for that long is that they're fumbling about with the weapon.
To stop griefing through spamming of said attack, delay successfull use on a single target like you do for knockdowns, perhaps raise the delay to 45 seconds. However, don't cause a delay if the firsttry didn't work.
Notice I said single target. Now, say you happen to be Overt for your faction of choice and you get jumped by three other Overts of the opposite faction. Disarm 2 on each of them successfully, then get to work. In my case, I'd hit each one with panic shot too, then run.
Now, I said have the actual unequiping at Disarm 2 because Disarm 1 would open it to dabblers for griefing. Just think about all the TKAs with Investigation 3 who'd pick upGunfighter 0010just so they could jump a Jedi and make them drop thier saber right off the bat.
But, you know that this won't happen, I'm a Smuggler, thusly, the Devs won't listen to me...

Disarm2 is an area effect (i.e. hits multiple targets) whereas 1 is a single target thing, similar to the way warcry1 and 2 and intimidate1 and 2 and practically all 1 + 2's in the game function. I'd much rather have a always useful attack, that disarms a weapon and prevents it from being re-equipped than one that would never 'happen' (every other profession in the game would cry grief and no Developer would actually 'want' it to damage weapons again)
