like i was saying though, fanshot inherently implies area... they should both be area attacks.
mtps shouldn't neccessarily be better or worse, both should be useful. some kind of area status effect would be nice.

Well actually fan shot implies like a 'fan' (which is an object that spreads in an arc or cone shape) so it's working exactly the way it's name implies it should. Because it is a 360 degree attack, something that'd be highly effective if you are in a party and would lead to our being able to deal significantly more damage than we currently do.
True. My issue with this is that the Master box of Pistoleer should have a powerful single-target attack with a status effect such as dizzy, an attack that would be effective against difficult opponents in PvP and PvE alike that will avoid aggroing other nearby mobs. As of right now, if you want to do damage as a pistoleer you must use Fan Shot and take the aggro of whatever stands next to your primary target. Since Fan Shot and Multi-Target do much the same thing, just to a different degree, I feel that changing the one provided by master to a single-target attack would be beneficial in resolving this issue. It would also kill two birds with one stone; since many of the specials in the Pistoleer trees are redundant, this change would provide Pistoleers with another unique avenue of attack instead of just rehashing an old one.
Prior to adding that part of post, I asked myself, "Do we really need two area attacks when we have no powerful single-target attacks to use against higher-level mobs and other players? And would I want to see just an increased-damage attack with no special status change or DoT effects attached?" I was forced to answer, "No." In the end, I believed it would be more beneficial toreward MasterPistoleers witha powerful single-target attack with status change then to fix an attack that was simply a modified version of something that already exists lower down in the tree.
I must stress that, in my opinion, making a Pistoleer's most powerful attack an area effect would make it worthless in many situations. If Pistoleer is fixed to the point where itcan do noticeable damage to things like Krayts, Enhanced Kwis, Force Crystal Hunters, and the like, then I would not want to have to aggro several of them on me in the process of using my most powerful attack against the only one I'm truly trying to kill. That could lead to nasty things like death and dismemberment. And,in PvP, a 360 area attack would decrease survivability by making the Pistoleer the prime target for every opponent in the potentially threatened area (again assuming that the fix cures the Pistoleer's inability to inflict damage in PvP)..
That said, what do people think? Do we want our most powerful attack to be an AoE? Or do we want a single-target special that does very good damage and has a status change attached? (This is keeping in mind that, with the suggested changes, there will still be a Fan Shot or Multi-Target equivalent available from Pistol Techniques IV.)

I too would like to see Pistoleer become a character set that is a force to be reckoned with in SWG.

Im curious to see what direction our role in the combat balance takes, guess well have to wait for sandbox reporting.
