The thing is, that wasn't even a nerf

The only new content pushed forth in "publish 9.1" were the new chat channels.

They FIXED the droid and Jedi missions for Bounty Hunter;

And they FIXED the bugs that allowed people to exploit delay and distance with Combat Medic. It wasn't a nerf, it was a fix because it had been broken. Pawning it off as new material, if they're doing that, is just flat out wrong, and everyone should realize that.

Thunderheart was very vague in what exactly he was looking for, so I submitted all of them. It's identical to the Vision Document, but moreconcise. Pistol Melee Defense 2: Knockdown is broken. Even if it weren't, simply knocking down and dealing a little more damage in the process is not considered enough improvement over PMD1.
SOLUTION: Give it a reliable knockdown and a state effect such as Stun or Dizzy.


Double Tap: There is no reason that any Pistoleer at any point in his leveling should use this special.
SOLUTION: A "double tap" means to fire 2 rounds in quick succession, without taking the time to aim the second shot. Increase damage, give it a chance to strike 2 random pools, and give it a small chance to inflict a random pool bleed.


Stopping Shot: Unless the player is speed capped, a Pistoleer shouldn't use this special. Frequent complaints that it doesn't "stop."
SOLUTION: Impliment either a new temporary stopping effect, or simply a Posture Change Down.


Fan Shot: Similar to other cone attacks, doesn't damage targets that aren't in combat on the initial hit, but agros them.
SOLUTION: Make cones damage attackable targets that are not in combat.


Point Blank Single 2: Redundant. Another random HAM special that is outdamaged by a similar special, but has the additional range restriction.
SOLUTION: Increase the damage, add temporary defensive modifiers.


Point Blank Area 2: Redundant in the same way Point Blank Single 2 is, and the area effect is broken.
SOLUTION: Fix the area effect, increase the damage, and add temporary defensive modifiers.


Body Shot 3: Outdamaged by Body Shot 2 until the player is a Master Pistoleer with a fairly quick pistol.
SOLUTION: Do what was done for Head Shot 3 for the same reason months ago. Increase the damage.


Disarming Shot: Does nothing worthwhile. Simply very low random HAM damage.
SOLUTION: Add Intimidate. Return double damage to lairs effect that was accidentally removed in Publish 9. Consider making health targeted.


Disarming Shot 2: Does nothing worthwhile. Simply very low random HAM damage with a cone effect and a sky-high HAM cost.Completely redundant with Fan Shot.
SOLUTION: Add Intimidate. Retain cone. Return double damage to lairs effect that was accidentally removed in Publish 9. Consider making health targeted.


Multi Target Pistol Shot: Fails to function if there is a LOS obstruction to one or more of the targets. Low DPS. Doesn't justify intentionally getting surrounded.
SOLUTION: Fix LOS errors, increase damage, add state effect or DOT.


PROBLEM: Our defenses are inadequate for a largely defensive profession.
SOLUTION: Increase Ranged Defense (currently 7), Increase Melee Defense (currently 45). Dodge is currently 105, and may or may not need an increase depending on how much the other defenses are increased.


PROBLEM: State defenses are pretty worthless unless stacked. Our opponent need only fire it once or twice more to make it stick.
SOLUTION: Have a successful saving throw result in an approximately 10 second immunity to the effect.


PROBLEM: With a lack of armor piercing and no abundance of damage types (Riflemen have both AP3 and the same amount of damage types), Pistoleers find it difficult to contribute in high end content.
SOLUTION: Provide Pistoleer with more viable weapons with a greater variety of damage types.


PROBLEM: The speed system is wonky. It's exponential (screwing up the rate of progression and making it a nightmare to balance), and it has put us in a position where Pistoleers aren't any faster than other professions.
SOLUTION: Scrub it, and replace it with a more linear one. Make sure Pistoleers are considered fast in the new system.


PROBLEM: Pistoleers report extraordinary difficulty hitting defense stackers in PvP.
SOLUTION: Simply hard cap the chance to hit or miss in PvP, on a sliding scale based on the level of the player and the level of the target. Do not pass this information to the client, so thatunscrupulous players cannot use a packet sniffer to "/con" players.






Wow, sterling job Randonb . 3, 5 and 6 are issues that I think affect all combat and would be beneficial to all. Let's hope they manage to get at least one of them done some time in publish 10.1

I think we should prioritize which issues should be addressed, they will most likely not address all of them. Also, we should have a forum vote on the solutions based on what the devs are willing to change it too (such as adding a sate effect to a special, rather than the devs picking it, would be nice for the community to vote on which one would be preferred).

I had posted something similar in the GCW Forum, but I am going to repost it here.


Thinking about bleeds, if I remeber correctly the description says it wrecks havok to the tagets regen pools. Why not do that, have the shot do some damage to the main, HAM, but also hit the secondary. No more willit bleed life away, it would just affect the regen rate of the target. It would act like a spice downer, where the stats cannot go under 1/1, and the affect would be temporary, last just as long as the normal duration of the Original Bleed.


The same could be done with the CM poisons and diseases. Only they would hit the other secondary (or both, need to differentiate the two). This would keep the CM vital to attacking, but they would not be as powerfull (Godly) as they are now. Now your specials would cost x2 or more HAM to yourself. I know this really hurts HAM intensive combat proffessions, but with buffs nowadays the HAM costs don't really matter, but this might bring them in line also.


A flamer could do the actual DOT, while wounding the main bar. Only makes sense


The only flaw that I see is it is pretty worthless if you are into PvE as they don't haveanysecondaries

Sorry, I have to call Shenanigans on this whole announcement. It looks pretty clear to me that they're bandaiding the ground game and redirecting all their resources to a NEW product that we need to pay extra for. I can't fault them from a fininancial perspective, but they've pretty much abandoned all our problems. If they haven't been able to take care of our "Top 5 Issues" in the last year and a half (including beta), then what confidence should we have that they can whip it all together by publish 10.1??


They can claim "that they're doing it for overall quality reasons" if they want, but it's all smoke and mirrors until code goes live.

If the track record is any indication of the future prospects for this game.

It outta be balenced completely and ready to go, by July of 2009.


And that's just the original game.

JTL complete fix by 2015.

I'm all for that list Randonb, great short concise problem/solution. Whether they want to or not, they need to address every single. I'm realistic and know the speed issue and its current forumula is a long way out, and probably wont get fixed until CB. But all the broken specials, in all professions need to be fixed and made useful. Period. 1 year of a live game, and adding so much new content is inexcusable for not fixing what they launched with.


Rand, just challenge any dev to take master pistoleer and no other combat profession, and play for a month, both PvE and PvP. On a live server not TC. They will see it cause you can't deny it. Its fubar.

I'm not quite sure when my 1-year subscription ends, but if there haven't been any significant improvements to pistoleer by the time it runs out, then I'll be saying farewell.

Stick a fork in me. I'm done. I was willing to give it til mid September early october when the CB was supposed to have come out. If it takes them a year to address a problem, I see no reason why I should continue to pay for a product that doesn't work, or pay people who have no intention of making it work.

Because my best pal is playing and hasn't finished all he wants to do with it yet, I'll be staying til he's got all his ducks in a row. After that, I'm gone til they get their act together. I've been playing City of Heroes over the last few weeks and having a blast. I've got a few more skill boxes I can be filling til my pal is ready. But I don't expect to be back for a while after that. Continuing to show them my support while they do nothing to fix the problem only enables the mindset that they can get away with it.

Pistoleer DPS is too low (usually) to kill anyone with full buffs and armor. They will usually regen so fast against the low damage, it' snear impossible to kill them.

Keep fighting the good fight, Randon, but as for me, that's it ... I just have no sense that the management team on this project has any clue what they're doing. Spending more money so they can not work on the game I'm playing, but instead stick it into development of another game that I certainly have no plan to buy now, just doesn't sit well.


Gone on the 26th, maybe back for a quick check at the end of the year to see if things have improved a bit, but I've lost all sense of optimism that this crew, that has shown no sense of direction or purpose for 12 months, will suddenly discover one.
